Thank you for posting this, I’ve been REALLY interested in getting the IMSA Miller foxbody kit and have been wondering how detailed everything was and your video helped me make that choice! It was good to see that GTP kit as well I won’t be picking that up now lol. Good quality bud, you’ve got a subscriber out of me!
Interesting. I spent 30 years of my life racing stock cars mostly on pavement. Ending my career in a SLM class. As of yet I have not build a race car but have a NASCAR truck and car in my stash. Keep up the good work.
These were definitely awesome kits. I built the GTP kit (Ford corporate sponsored) but elected to build it in Jaegermeister livery. These GTP kits were ideal foundations for added detail and I did a little. And they were easy to assemble and paint. At about the same time, Revell introduced a series of 1/25 scale IMSA GTO kits to the market. These kits were exceptionally detailed, perhaps the high water mark for complexity for Revell at the time. However, some molding and fitment issues made them more difficult to assemble. I built the Folgers sponsored kit and have the Ford sponsored kit on the shelf. Interestingly enough, Revell, molded the bodies with slight variations - my Folgers kit has a spoiler that is unique, a true representation of the 1:1 car. I saw Paul Newman race his Mustang GTO in Detroit in the early 80s, on the river side track, prior to the series moving to Belle Isle.
Thanks Luka, great vid ! It is hard to believe these kits are from the early eighties. They were ahead of their time. I have one of the GTP kits but am sill on the look out for the GT Mustang, especially that Miller one ! To bad we can not have new kits today with 'adult themes' like alcohol and smoking sponsor decals included without causing an uproar.
The kits were contemporary to Tamiya's German DTM championship kits which is the category these were derived from. From this video, they are better than the Tamiya apart from the bodyshell where the Tamiya moulding was stunning. The real Mustang was derived from the Zakspeed Ford Capri (Mercury Capri in the US)
Hey Luka. Another fine video. Liking these monogram kits, I don’t think we had them in the U.K. in the 80s, we had airfix, revel and italeri. Take care. D.
I've built three of GT kits and two of the GTP kits featured. The Mustang GT in all white as featured on the box and the red/white version with Miller sponsorship and the GT in blue Ford Motorsport livery. I saw the GT race at one of the first races I attended. I built both versions of the GTP model - 7-11 version and Ford Motorsports. The kits build into nice models, not exceedingly detailed but nice shelf models. One comment and tip - the kit decals are not very good. They're thick and have too much adhesive making them difficult to lay down over curved surfaces. Look for and buy the aftermarket decals that are available. They're excellent and easy to use.
I need to find one of these kits. Someone near me brings a Mercury Capri IMSA car to the Historic Motorsports Festival at Sonoma Raceway every year. There's also a Whistler (I think) Mustang and a Duracell sponsored Camaro that come out.
Hey Luka! I wanted to say though, that those Ford inline 4 cylinders w/turbocharger’s were nothing to laugh at or no slouch, they were pretty daggone fast and tuff too! Those things were just as wicked as any foreign engines of the same size or even some of the bigger engines too! Even some boats had that 4 cylinder mustang ( w/o the turbo) in them, but they were still pretty fast! Good video buddy! Also I heard that those 4 cylinders in the IMSA Mustangs & the GTP were suppose to have been almost as fast as the Grand National 3.8 V6 ( or just as) ,but the Buick GN’s were “regular street “ cars compared to the IMSA cars, where their bodies and that were built for nothing but racing! Course I knew a guy in Ohio that had one of those turbo 4 cylinder engine in a regular stock fox body mustang and that thing was scary fast!!!!!
These videos brings back memories of when I was a young kid I built this along with the Bob Glidden kits and so many others keep these coming.
Ah wow! many years ago I built the JPS IMSA racer, great and love to have ajother one to build. thanks for the nostalgia on this one Luka!
One of my favorite builds of the mid 80's
I`m loving the retro reviews and the close up of the old kit keep it up!

I like this old supercars!
Awesome video, Luka.... Sure now more kits I need to add to my stash......LOL They look like a lot of fun for us guys that like retro race cars....
Nice. I haven't built a kit in awhile. Got to get one.
wow really nice kits thanks for showing them. I do armor models but racing cars fascinate me and I build them.

I put both of those kits together more than thirty years ago. Still have them on display on display.

love the look of this car!

I'm very interested in these 80s IMSA racers, very cool cars!
When are you getting back to the Malibu kit Luka love your videos

I have both the Ford GTP and the Mustang Ford IMSA kit. Pretty impressed. The GTP kit looks like it will build like the Aertech.
Meant: Aerotech by Monogram.

I love those historic racing events
Nice kit.
I also remember they put out some scca Mustangs one was red sponsored by Folgers Coffee and the other was black the Johnny Player Special.
These ARE cool! I've got both! Unfortunately my miller mustang has a defect on its windshield. I'm just gonna build it anyway
Nice video

Yep, that engine was in the 84-86 Mustang SVO.
Model Car Hobby Headquarters - Right on man, right on!
I have an 84 SVO.... it's a thrill ride.
Tough? The GTP barely finished any races!
I have the 711 Trans Am Mustang. Need to build it.
I'm guessing it might say Cosworth on the valve cover
would you ever build a truck?
If you mean a big rig. Yes. I have a few kits I do want to build.
