Thanks for this one. I am a giant Zappa fan. He was a true musical genius. Not always for everyone. He was an undeniably unique person and artist. Your choices for your favorites are well chosen and I like all of them. Especially the post Flo and Eddy instrumental albums. His orchestral favorites album gets a lot of play from me lately. Great review. Well done. Thank you. Keep on rocking!🤘 p.s. we are only in it for the money is by far my favorite concept album by Zappa. As well as my favorite audio movie. ✌
A very well balanced appraisal as you need to to take a year off to do it for the complete discography. You are what you is is worth investigating. Note I do enjoy your show.best wishes tim
I'll throw my hat in the ring. But first I have to mention a couple great compilations: Ahead Of Their Time and The Lost Episodes are really fun posthumous releases. 10. Absolutely Free (1967) 9. Freak Out (1966) 8. Weasels Ripped My Flesh (1970) 7. Apostrophe (1974) 6. Chunga's Revenge (1970) 5. We're Only In It For The Money (1968) 4. Overnight Sensation (1973) 3. Hot Rats (1969) 2. One Size Fits All (1975) 1. The Grand Wazoo (1972) Thanks for ranking FZ. Your list is good
Nice video. There is quite a bit of his work I've yet to get around to (mainly early Mothers stuff), however of the ones I've heard so far here is my top 10: 10. Studio Tan 9. Waka/Jawaka 8. The Grand Wazoo 7. One Size Fits All 6. Apostrophe 5. Zoot Allures 4. Hot Rats 3. Joe's Garage 2. Sheik Yerbouti 1. Over-Nite Sensation
Top 5 FZ Albums : 5. The Grand Wazoo (1972) 4. Burnt Weeny Sandwich (1971) 3. Hot Rats (1969) 2. We're Only In It For The Money (1968) 1. One Size Fits All (1975)
As Mr. Zappa once sang, "look here brother, who you jivin" with that cosmic debris?". Nice list, really. So many variations to be had, least of all Gumbo. Where was Uncles Meat? Fast & bulbous.
Your list is a pretty good one. The only album that I play more than anything listed here is Bongo Fury but understand why you didn't include it. His Shut Up and Play Yer Guitar also gets alot of play as it resides in my work truck.
Zappa's probably the most significant prog-adjacent artist that I have little experience with. I've tried a few times but when I'm done I feel like I've just bounced off it. I'll pull this vid up next time I try.
I was never a huge fan of Zappa's entire discography. Instead I've always been fascinated by Beefheart's mutant blues, I love even his weakest mid-70s moments! But I definitely consider "The Grand Wazoo" an astonishing album and "Cruising with Ruben & the Jets" one of my top guilty pleasures!
Weakest mid 70s?? IDIOT. The Bozzio era into Bsby snakes was Zappa prime, dummy. He performed all the overnight/ apostrophe/ one size albums plus added Metal and hard grooving rock, catapulted him into stardom world wide,,dummy,SNL live channel 4 performance. The Purple lagoon live with brecker Brothers. Mid 70s weak. YOU MORON.
We're very much on the same page when it comes to Zappa. Except I would have " Absolutely Free " " Zoot Allures " and " Ship Arrive to late to Save a Drowning Witch " to replace " The Grand Wazoo " " Waka\ Jawaka " and " Burnt Weeny Sandwich". Still like those albums though.

I highly recommend We’re Only In It For The Money & Freak Out. The best of the early Mothers imho.
@@bicyclelegsmusic I'll check them out, thanks!
Congratulations! Nice list. I couldn't do a top 10, I like so much of his catalogue, really impossible for me. Thanks for the video

It’s crazy that Frank Zappa released 62 studio albums in total, what a great musician he was!! 😄👍
I, m agree with you. My favorite Zappa album is We're only in it for the money.
As Mr. Zappa once sang, "look here brother, who you jivin" with that cosmic debris?". Nice list, really. So many variations to be had, least of all Gumbo. Where was Uncles Meat? Fast & bulbous.
Uncle Meat was definitely in contention!

Based on live performances. We're discussing studio

I have always assumed 'Help, I'm a Rock' (1966) is parodying Simon & Garfunkel's 'I Am a Rock' (1965). Or at least the title/main lyric is.

Zoot Allures and Absolutely Free were on my original list, I’d probably have them 11th & 12th respectively.
Sorry, but got to include Roxy and Elsewhere
I wasn’t including purely live albums, but good choice.
