I can't thank you enough. I had everything ready to replace the ignition switch, but could not figure out how to remove the tilt wheel lever. Your video was a life saver. Everything is now back to perfect condition.
MAN! My A/C Blower motor was not blowing! I replaced blower motor, resistor, fuse and wire tips and no luck. Until I replaced ignition switch!!!!!!Thank GOD! my ac blows cold now! thank you
A few notes. Better explanation of your actual struggle with this. The lower half of the clam shell must be pulled away from the ignition. Also I did not remove those little clips to get the bolt for the tilt lever. Do not remove the white clip from the big plug. Grab the pan under the column and pull down for more room
That ignition switch also controls power out to your trailer brake controler if you have one, just spent a couple of useless days trying to find the problem ,replaced switch and now have trailer brakes
Well I have to say that after googling “gremlins” for my 2005 hemi ram, my gremlin’s fit the bill for this switch. My only issue upon reassembly was that I kept forcing the long skinny prong of the ignition switch in, not over the receiving end. Once that was adjusted it was smooth sailing. I did have a few extra torx screws left over though.
Wish i had seen this video sooner , ive put 600 dollars into my truck trying to figure out whats going on . I'm pretty sure this is it .Thank you for the video!!
Great video!! I have a 2009 Dodge ram 1500 Ltd. I left work today started fine. Went 1 mile to the dollar store and would start. Ignition kept sticking like it was starting and starting over and over again but with engine starting. Thought it was battery, charged that and not battery. Then rebooted WCM by disconnecting negative cable on battery. Wasn't that. Now this has to be it. Having it towed to dodge tomorrow. Hopefully not expensive. If I knew exactly what it is I would try to change muself
I'm sure you knowthis but when your removing the steering wheel plastic that bottom panel below the steering wheel just pops off the top is just held in with tabs so this makes it alot easier to get every thing off and more importantly back togather all lined up easily
I wanted to thank you for making this video it helped me out. My fan would run with ignition turned off. Thanks to you I was able to replace mine with confidence.
Heater blower had stopped working but this was the cure. Might be worth mentioning that the white and yellow plugs do have locking tabs on the top side. Just squeeze each plug top and bottom and it will pull right out. I also had to widen the two slots in the long skinny end. I used a drill bit that was slightly larger the the opening and just worked it back and forth a few times in the slot. My key position seemed extra tight same as yours. But after replacing heater blower motor, resistor, and relay, this got the blower working. Neither my old switch or wiring harness showed any signs of getting too hot.
Am having the same problem on the 2005 Dodge caravan. Replaced the heater blower motor, resister and tested the relays (good) and still. the blower is not working. So your saying replace that black "thingy" solved your front blower problem q
To remove the white and yellow plugs, push down on the top of them with a small flat screwdriver . They're hard to see, but that's where the tabs to disconnect them are located.
I had to replace my ignition control module and wiring harness. 2004 Dodge Ram 1500. I had the same issue with the new control module I ordered off eBay being an off brand with no logo..it was just $37.00 remanufactured . I tried to get the thing to set for what seemed like forever and couldn't, then saw this video. I realized that the new one did not have 2 slots to go into the plastic guides that are inside the place the module seats in on the steering column... just the 1 on the 1 side with the big one in the middle. I actually had to get a drill with a tiny drill bit and aggravate with carefully drilling the missing hole. I'm on my farm 60 miles from my sister and a ride..stuck with just my work truck. I ended up saying screw it and simply broke off the plastic guide inside the place the module seats in on the steering wheel. Wasn't concerned about doing it because the 2 screws held it securly..i can take it back off later and super glue the plastic guide back on. The ignition control module slipped right in. I wouldn't have figured it out if I hadn't seen this video where you show you had to use a screw driver and widen your middle one. Thank you so much!
Hey, so I have a 2004 ram 2500 and the lights in the instrument panel quit working. The lights behind the dials work but nothing else. My odometer doesn’t work either. So I thought that it would be a problem with the cluster. After fiddling with it a bit, I realized that my glow plugs weren’t working. So I thought that it was the ignition not telling the computer that the lights need to be on and the glow plugs. The truck on the other hand still runs.
That looks nothing like the ignition switch in my 2008 1500. The one I have matches the Oreilly auto parts inventory but doesn't look like what you just pulled out at all. they must have been making a transition in 08 or used different switches for different packages.

Appreciate any help just really not trying to tow it cause I can’t get it started.

My brother has a 2003 ram 1500 and a few days ago his truck stopped running because he cant turn the ignition key all the way. This sounds like he needs to replace the ignition key. Is this correct?
It could be the ignition switch but there is also an ignition cylinder as well that could be the culprit. But make sure the truck is in park and not stuck in reverse or anything and also check that the steering wheel isnt locked.
Mine did. I wonder if you have a battery or starter issue. My switch turned out to be good and I actually switched back to the old one and kept the new one as a spare
If you haven't done the starter before I got a video here about some of things to be aware of with the start replacement: ruclips.net/video/Qv-Nn1bPHB4/видео.html
I changed this because my guages sometimes turn off and back on while I drive down the road as if I turned the key off. This didn't solve the issue and I'm still hunting for a solution.
@@jonathonbrown3504 nope. Tried doing the shifter thing moving it out of park and back into park. Sometimes works. But not sure if thats the problem. Ordered a whole new computer to see if thats the issue. Going to tackle the ignition switch after that.
So, the fact that actually removing the switch itself is not shown on camera makes this video infinitely less useful. I dont want to break it and you gave zero explanation how to actually remove it and were wrong about the yellow and white clips.
