  • Professor Fabrice Laussy and PhD Student Juan Camilo López Carreño from the University of Wolverhampton have been part of a collaboration with La Sapienza University of Rome and the Advanced Potonics Lab from the Institute of Nanotechnology of the Italian National Research Council (CNR) into Quantum Mechanics Research surrounding Polaritons.
The University of Wolverhampton has provided theoretical basis and modelling to support the experimental part of the research for partners in Lecce and Rome.
The research has been successful in creating sustained entangled photons through microcavities using quantum light to produce nonclassical state of light-matter particles known as polaritons, which now have the potential to store quantum information.
Polaritons are one key to future technological advancements that use quantum circuitry, rather than conventional electronic circuitry, in which this is the first step towards allowing particles that cannot store quantum information to do so.
The research also involved expertise from partners from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Riken, Universita Degli Studi Di Napoli Federico II, CNR Nanotec, Russian Quantum Centre and Istituto Officina Dei Materiali.
