@@jrupp8853 That's because look at Ric Flair. Ric was great when he was at the center of his soap opera, plus it's just a fact Hogan and Flair had bad chemistry in the ring. Magnum might have been different, he was more of a body guy and he might have worked better with Hogan.
I think that is more of the truth Steve P. Magnum threw an awful punch. It started somewhere around his waist and looked awkward as hell sometimes. Unlike Scott Hall who had a great snap to his working punches and he was a lot bigger than Magnum and one of the greatest interviewers of all time.
He was scheduled to take the belt from Flair at Starrcade 86. A full year BEFORE Garvin in 87, but the car accident prevented that from happening, so we were stuck with Flair vs Nikita.
Ric Flair vs Magnum TA was good, but if he got a belt where do you go, Flair the belt back, Ric was the man in the NWA, he could wrestle anyone and fill up the buildings.
He couldn't talk. He couldn't throw a punch and he was smaller than Sting or Lex. At that time you needed to look like a superhero to be a baby in the NWA? Sorry.
Baby faces never held the world title for long in the NWA. The real question is would Magnum have gone to the WWF and, if so, would he have had to change his gimmick?
"It's spoken about like fact that he was going to be NWA Champion..." uh yeah cos it was. That wouldn't be repeated by so many people if it wasn't true. Dumb phrasing of a question.
For some reason I could see Magnum TA getting a lot of comparisons to Brett Hart if he never had that wreck and went on to have s full career. Rather Magnum went to WWF or Bret Hart came to WCW I can't help but think they would have had some damned good matches if that could have ever worked out.
Magnum TA wouldve never been as big as Hogan or Flair. In reality he wouldve been a short time champion. He looked great but he couldnt talk, he wouldve been Kerry Von Erich as world champion
Magnum was second class to Scott Hall in every way. When Magnum went down because of the accident, Hall was right there in the NWA. Bigger, better looking, and with an incredible working punch (best in the business next to Jerry Lawlers) ever see Magnums punch? He fires it awkwardly from the hip? There is a picture of the two taken before Magnum had his accident that shows you how it would have been easy to give Hall that spot. However, one person wanted that spot for himself and did not want a new young babyface coming in and taking it away from him. That man was Dusty Rhodes. He even had a Gator Scott Hall beat in the ring like a jobber years later by Arn Anderson after he requested Hall to lose some weight and come down from 295 to 250. Arn beat him on TV in less than 2 minutes and Scott Hall was not seen again in a wrestling ring for almost 3 years.
You obviously never watched Magnum. He was amazing. Like David said, he had the look, he had the charisma, the fans loved him, he had the physique and he actually had pretty good ring skills and when he had his accident he was still a relatively new wrestler and was getting better every week.
Can you imagine Hulk Hogan vs Magnum T.A that would have been sweet.
Nobody in New York would care about Hogan vs. Magnum. Even Flair against Hogan was a tough sell, hence the reason Vince changed Wrestlemania....

Magnum was a smaller less charismatic version of Scott Hall.
Magnum looks like Jesse James of the masked James Boys. 😂
He would have got the belt instead of Ron Garvin.

This is awesome 😎
I really like the shows
I believe Magnum TA would have been apart of the WWF additude era
I have a question for both David and Tony. My question is when and who smartened them up to the business????
Damn hes still around wow!
Its the son.
Yep him and his brother still living

Magnum wasn’t that great on the mic IMO but had everything else
Realistic on the mike. He’s comparable to the Rock compared to some of the talent today.
When I say the Rock, while T.A. wasn’t great, he was solid. He would be brilliant on the mike compared to today’s talent.
Yeah his interviews sucked it was his look that carried him

He could have been a draw but Vince would probably ruin him like he did road warriors .
I'm certain the Crocketts would've needed permission from the NWA to make that Magnum switch happen.

Magnum TA $$$$

Wow, never thought Ole was such an environmentalist. He hates people, but loves the planet. 😂
Ole used to write environmental articles under the pseudonym Miss Ann Thrope.
Bet it had more to do with making and saving money than anything else.

Terry Allen would've stretched Scott Hall every way from Saturday.

It's quite possibly that Magnum TA just wasn't that good case of being over hyped
