Tears fill my eyes listening to this song. Spending my 3rd Christmas in Hawaii getting closer and closer to my dreams. 1 year we just moved, 2nd year we had our second child to celebrate with us, 3 year we have built a beautiful off grid home to live, can’t wait for the beauty, joy and accomplishments we will see in our next year. I am so thankful to be in my home ❤️❤️. thank you hawaii, thank you for choosing me. I am finally free.

My aunt Barb lived in Hawaii for a while when she was a young adult. This is her song. Every time I hear it, I know that’s her letting me know her spirit is nearby. Of all songs, this one is HER song. Every Christmas (or funeral), she’d cook a big meal and bring everyone together. The grownups would smoke around the table talking it up, while we kids smushed ourselves behind their chairs to chase each other all over the house. That memory smells like glazed ham and a tobacco field, which is oddly comforting to me today. Whenever this song came on, Aunt Barb would holler for us to come dance to it. Me and one other cousin would come in and hula the whole song. Aunt Barb would be so tickled and happy. Now, when I hear this song just randomly over a radio, I feel like I gotta stop and acknowledge my auntie’s presence. That’s HER song.
Aloha! I'm from the islands, and I love this song to pieces. I've moved off of Oahu for college, but when I was there, this was THE vibe. Hanging up the decorations hits in a while different way. Mele Kalikimaka to all, and to all a good night!
The Andrews Sisters deserve to be listed on the title of this video as well, this isn’t a solo song with just Bing, it’s a collaboration with the greatest female singing group of the first half of the 20th century!
I'm 46 years of age and everytime I hear the Andrews Sisters always reminds of my grandmother. Every song with those harmonies make my eyes sting my grandmother would be 100 tomorrow
@@leightongriffiths4930 I feel for you mate and understand your loss, I lost my gran 13 years ago and still miss her. She would have been 98 if she was still with us.
Bing's ability to have relaxed vocals while adding smart accents to add energy a soothing and relaxing song style was very unique and a LOT harder than one might realize. Singing along with Bing really teaches your vocal cords to expand and contract easily so have your kids sing-a-long with Bing at a young age and they will develop nice voices naturally =)
His "relaxed" style bugs me a bit. I notice that the Andrews sisters hit every word correctly on a beat, whereas Bing's singing is fluid, not tied to the beats. I'm sure it's a stylistic method and I'm not familiar enough with the details of singing to name it. There's no doubt he's a legendary singer, just wish I knew what his style was called...

Same, with my auntie. If u hear this song in a store, that’s them saying hello to us. My aunt used to make us hula through the whole song. I could be across the street at my other aunties house and she’d send someone over to grab us for the hula before the song ended. We just had to stand front and center to be the waves. We hated it as kids and did it anyway. Now I still do it anyway, right in the middle of the store, where my own kid can hate it lol

Old Aunt Bethany was a proper laugh. Not so funny was that she was played by Mae Questel, the original voice of Betty Boop, and really did contract senile dementia in old age.
What can you say, almost everytime Bing and the Andrews Sisters recorded, something magical happened. I think partly because Bing understood from his early days how to sing with a group, and maybe a little magic from Vic Schoen's scores. Bing was not known to be selective about what he recorded, so we have really great stuff and a lot of duds. When he was great, he was.

Is Rusty still in the Navy?
What's that sound? Can't you hear it? It's a funny squeaky sound!
Yes it is, it's a bit nipply out. I mean nippy out, what did I say, nipple?
This is my favorite Christmas song as a Californian, even though I am not Hawaiian in any relation, the sun shining along with the palm trees swaying with no snow makes me think of the SoCal Christmas's. 🌴
Happy Christmas to all who are reading this. I write this on the 24th December 2019 from the UK. Now to watch a man called Clark W. Griswold
Bing Crosby and The Andrews Sisters - Great song!
Nothing like a Griswall Christmas😄
"you couldn't hear a dump truck driving through a nitroglycerin plant"

+Lawlzinator That's the gift that keeps on giving..
Classic Christmas time movie!
I lived in Hawaii for 4 years and recently left and moved. Missing it this year for Christmas.
Bing sings Mele kalikimaka like it's a war chant, lol. Just needs to relax into it like all the other parts of the song. Otherwise he does great :) very soothing voice
Yes, in the 1940's,,, a beautiful song, very cheery, especially with the Bing who can really sing!!!
"Is your house on fire Clark?" No Bethany it's just the
Christmas lights." Are we at the Airport Clark?
"The BLEEEEEEEESSING".
@@Roruiva I pledge allegiance to the flag of The United States of America and to the republic for which it stands one nation under God indivisible with Liberty and Justice for all
@@TheCreativeMind ( standing up) Amen!
Old Aunt Bethany was a proper laugh. Not so funny was that she was played by Mae Questel, the original voice of Betty Boop, and really did contract senile dementia in old age.
Don’t throw me down Clark
I love this song. I like when they play it on Christmas vacation, haha so funny.
I always think of cousin Eddie on the diving board
What can you say, almost everytime Bing and the Andrews Sisters recorded, something magical happened. I think partly because Bing understood from his early days how to sing with a group, and maybe a little magic from Vic Schoen's scores. Bing was not known to be selective about what he recorded, so we have really great stuff and a lot of duds. When he was great, he was.
One of my favorite Christmas songs .....
Thank you "Vacation" for making this my favorite Christmas song!
SANTY CLAUS!!!! Oh.... it's just you Uncle Clark.
Just watched that movie!!!

I HAVE NEVER HEARD THIS SONG BEFORE, SO FOR ALL THOSE PEOPLE HERE ARE THE LYRICS :
Mele Kalikimaka is the thing to say on a bright
Hawaiian Christmas day
That's the island greeting that we send to you
From the land where palm trees sway
Here we know that Christmas will be green and bright
The sun will shine by day and all the stars at night
Mele Kalikimaka is Hawaii's way to say Merry Christmas
to you
Mele Kalikimaka is the thing to say on a bright

From the land where palm trees sway
Here we know that Christmas will be green and bright
The sun will shine by day and all the stars at night
Mele Kalikimaka is Hawaii's way to say Merry Christmas
to you

"Is your house on fire,Clark ?.........Don't throw me down,Clark..."... I wet my pants every time ...!!!!
Shitters Full
This is one of my favorite Christmas songs. 💖
i've got the bettie midler version of this song on a CD of nostalgic christmas records. loved the various christmas/hawaiian fusions in this video, xmas tees, among palmtrees, that hilarious model of a scantilly dressed santa, etc. christmas in hawaii, now that would be a very different christmas experience. a beach barbecue, instead of a traditional christmas dinner for example! how hard it is to immagine being able to paddle, dressed in little more than a sarong, on alovely warm, tropical beach on christmas day, wow!
It’s still a wise way to say Merry Christmas 🎄
It's actually "Hawaii's way" not "The wise way". But for some time I did think it was the wise way.
"Jesus bethany did the room clear, the blessing they want u to say the blessings"
"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
