A friend of mine used brake cleaner spray to make my 4 stroke outboard start - worked immediately!

Time spent messing around with small engines is only second to time spent messing around with small boats, in terms of rewarding life experience. Another good thing to check is the kill switch, that maybe your engine no longer has? Anyway, thanks for sharing.

Your float was probably stuck and got freed when you took the bowl off.
I've got a four stroke motor and always run the high octane fuel because not only does it clearly give better performance but if i leave it with the low octane crap even a four stroke which is normally a first pull starter takes a good 10-15 pulls to get going.
I would be slightly concerned about the lack of water coming out of the tell tail.
Have you tried unblocking it with a piece of flexible wire or descaling the engine?

Yes! I think you are right with the bowl removal. I like the high octane idea. Thanks. Yes I have replaced the impeller and all looked fine but the design does not have a stream like most outboards. It is more of a misting. It has been like this for the 12 years I have used it. Thanks for watching and your comments!
