      It's a silly idea bending a piece of plastic. On the first day you open the phone, it already has a "crease" in the middle. and after bending it thousands of times, it will crack and break. They all do no matter what material they use, NO exceptions.

    • @BillAnt
      @BillAnt 3 месяца назад +1

      A better solution would be to separate the screen into two physical halves, and flip/fold them on a mechanical hinge for a nearly edge-less experience. I rather see a thin line in the middle, than an ugly crease then a crack.

    If they got rid of S Pen support to make the folds thinner while other brands have pen support on BOTH displays and are already way thinner than Samsung's, I would 100 percent jump ship to something else. That would be absolutely pathetic.

    • @michaelcorcoran8768

      Yeah but at this point their market share was so small they're probably all not that worried about losing you as a customer. 6th generations in and foldables including the flippable might account for one 1.5% of Samsung's entire market. But it would be outrageous, it's a shame that these companies can't stick with a niche product. Not everything has to take widespread appeal to be useful.

      Samsung is getting left behind in display technology. BOE made the first mass produced tandom OLED panels for Huawei, they made the panel of the first smartphone to recieve a high comfort certification, and they made much better folding displays for the Oppo-OnePlus phones. On the other hand, TCL is annihilating Samsung on the price to quality front.

  • @michaelcorcoran8768
    @michaelcorcoran8768 3 месяца назад +22

    Foldable market share is so small.... It's got a disproportionate amount of media attention given the relative size. Even Samsung, maybe 1% of their whole market is foldables and once you remove the flippables, might be a third of 1% at most. A lot of the biggest enthusiasts like Mr Mobile and Shane Craig sometimes seem to suggest that it's the future... It might be part of future, maybe but it's a niche part of the future. It's okay, I like niche devices and I wish there was more support for them but usually these OEMs give up if something doesn't get widespread appeal.

    Well done 200 episodes 👍.
    On the Samsung foldables loosing ground , to me it appeared Samsung just sort of stagnated, and was reluctant to to make changes, even when it was fairly obvious, customers wanted some changes to the devices.
    Then again, maybe Samsung’s actual focus was selling foldable screens and parts to other brands, and the Galaxy fold was just a show piece ?

    Simply put all of the foldable phones are made by the Chinese companies now. Except the Samsung. But by next year, Samsung’s market share will be in the very low single digit. Btw, Motorola is a Chinese company too

    8:18 This is a no duh. There is no way to tell the quality of a site, solely from the site's attributes. Anything a content generator can control is something they can falsify. Something that is hard to falsify and reflects quality: Click through rate, time spent on site, and if another site was visited on the same query

    I had a Fold 3. I liked it well enough, to be sure. Then the internal screen protector just started to separate from the screen and I had to either upgrade or watch it slowly die. When I upgraded I went with an S23... Not because I wanted a smaller screen. To be sure I would LOVE to go with a foldable and Samsung makes the best foldables. The thing that convinced me to go with a non-foldable is simply the way I use phones. I like to go for walks. I listen to podcasts when I do so I stick my phone in the pocket and go. And those foldables are simply too thick to be comfortable.
    So if Samsung were to somehow make a foldable that is the same thickness as a non-foldable when closed with a long battery life I'd jump at it. But as is the Folds are simply not progressing far enough for me to use one.

    They sat on their laurels for way too long. How can it be that the Fold 2, 3, 4 and 5 all stayed the same form factor, while their competitors managed to do everything Samsung Fold users asked for?

    They thought they would make whatever they want and people would still buy them?
    Make the front with a normal aspect ratio like other phones.. make the phone a bit slimmer (optional, not to be done if the hinge wouldn’t hold up). Better battery life with bigger battery capacity, or good optimisation like the ultra series.. people don’t want to buy secondary option phones..

    Personally think it's quite a shame Samsung's foldable business isn't doing well. Having bought a OnePlus Open (I realize I am probably part of the problem here) I think the book foldable form is the best way a smart phone should exist. Larger screen when you want an E-Reader or for media consumption (larger is always better for consuming video content) or smaller when you just need to interact with it like a phone (calls, texting, pictures, etc). As Samsung was the market leader in this category, them failing will lead to other companies who were researching and innovating in the foldable phone space to rethink and drop their investments in it.
    I want to see better cameras, better stronger hinge designs, better display/glass tech, larger batteries etc come to foldable phones and I'm afraid none of that will happen if Samsung ends up calling it quits on this form factor.

    I’m not surprised. It’s a lot of money for a phone with an internal screen that you have to baby and old camera tech.
    You can buy a decent tablet and S24 Ultra for the same money.

    4:42 That candy bar shape and narrowness can be the main contributor to Samsung lost. I'm not trying to denigrate Samsung for the sake of denigration or mockery but the narrowness of the Samsung foldable is ludicrous.

    From the brief, a new Apple tv would be something I'm looking forward to from a gaming perspective. Not looked up any specs yet, but I'm wanting to see a unit with active cooling, for when things get too hot and end up thermal throttling. I want to see if it can take more than 3-4 hours of wreckfest, which appears to be Apple arcade's version of crysis 1 on the pc.

    I called it in 2022, foldables are bad, once you have one, next you get a regular phone, it's just better, way more practical and durable, most people I know that had a foldable can't stand it no longer than 6 months and go back to a regular phone

    The thing is, foldables are very expensive so not like people can easily jump. I have Samsung foldable and I am very satisfied with it, meaning I won't buy it yearly to update. So this is some weird trap situation for Samsung. Unlike other phone lines, it is not something people can change quickly with providers in a contract. So ofc the numbers show a decline.

    I would love to see the foldable devices more mainstream, but it would also need Samsung to repair screens that break along the fold, but they instead say it's 'user damage'.... yeah, I'm sorry, but if it's likely my super sensitive and thin screen is to break, and you're not going to repair it then you bet your ass I'm not going to invest in it. I think this is most people's / customers opinions.
