  • This week was our monthly challenge class, and we did the classic "A Day at the Races" move. This is a great move to use if you need to add extra counts to get back on the top of the phrase as you can add as many kicks as you like. Keeping your frame slightly engaged, but ready to relax it when needed is key to keeping this comfortable and safe for everyone. And as always with any of these moves where your hands are potentially in an awkward position, if anything hurts just let go and protect your shoulders!
Then we did a fancy footwork variation for Swing Outs with a leg sweep and kick ball change. Learning to do these footwork variations is a great way to add style and personality to your dancing, as well as challenging your brain to learn new patterns and break unconcious habits. These variations can be done independently of your partner, BUT you must have really solid basic footwork and lead/follow of the core move before you add these variations. So always practice your fundamentals first!
