First step in my "rare fruit" journey in 2001 was seeds for Passionfruits and Pepino Melon. They were alright. Best one of those grocery store exotics to grow at home is the Solanum Cape Gooseberry. DE they just use it as a garnish and 90% get tossed after taking off their cupcake or whatever because they're picked green and tastes like soap. Homegrown Cape Gooseberry tastes excellent like pineapple kiwi with citrus notes. I really like them dried like raisins and I am not a dried fruit fan.
i have grown a few from seed but only peruviana germinated well. currently a foot high 😂 there are clearly different cultivars of it but no names i could find.
@@OsirusHandle Yeah, the fruit is described as follows: This tomatillo is larger and sweeter than other tomatillo varieties. The taste is an exotic combination of sweet and sour. The shape of this queen of Malinalco is round and elongated to pointed. The flesh is beautifully sweet and juicy. 😍
I'm probably going to try growing some of them from seeds from store bought fruit. Probably start one indoors during the Winter. Flowers look like potato, but the fruits are better eating. 😁 I'm hoping homegrown and fully ripe will be better than the store.
Yeah thats the best you can do, start them in Winter Indoors, i would even suggest starting them in December like i do with my Capsicums, Solanums, Cucumis and Citrullus, they all need long Summers which we dont have in Germany

Just foraged some cape gooseberries yesterday. They are great

I prefer pruinosa over peruviana. But this year im growing Physalis ixocarpa "Tomatillo - Queen of Malinalco".

Yes, gardeners complained they dont ripen outdoors. Mine are just flowering now
