Jeff Hamilton Trio recording 'Spit Season Blues' in the studio (Remo Sandlane Sessions #4)

- Watch legendary Jazz drummer Jeff Hamilton and his Trio recording 'Spit Season Blues' in the studio. Bassist Christoph Luty gets to play the first solo of the evening here. Since these are re-edits, the focus is mainly on the drummer. A great opportunity to see how a legend like Jeff Hamilton focuses on the story told and completely diminishes himself to the bass lines played by changing to brushes.
The fun part here: watch how no single beat is lost when Jeff loses a stick after the bass solo. Professionality on its highest level and a specialty to watch.
This is part 4 of our Jeff Hamilton-week on Drummerszone.com. All songs and videos were recorded at the Sandlane Recording Facilities in The Netherlands live before a small audience.

Always The Best Man!
One of the greatest drummer and musician!
My favorite living drummer! Joe Morello is still at the top of the mountain but Jeff is next in line. How can you not smile when you listen to this? Jeff makes it look so easy.
Have to add this:
Jeff and his piano player (forgot his name :/)
Sat down with with me and another kid at a great event call Cymbal Summit (held at a great drum store in Memphis)
There was a lunch break (great southern bbq and hospitality were served)
Anyways he was unassuming and generous with his time, giving some great insight...
Also just talked about normal life!
Very humble and down to earth... Willing to take a little time out to sit with a couple of youngsters.
Loved that day and will always remember it!!
the pianist is Tamir hendelman
@@jeanlouischleider thank you!
What a phenomenal player he is! Every beat is tasteful, with nothing played that detracts the listeners attention from the arrangement. Simply beautiful playing by a master.
Absolute brilliant left hand played with total control…….I envy the man,..such a fantastic drummer.
Jeff Hamilton is one of my favorite drummers out there- so good! Calm composure on that stick drop!
So glad he dropped it. Maybe he and I are alike in some ways?? :)
phenomenal and so musical!
I fucken love jazz, especially with an ensemble like this!!
JH swings so hard, I could watch him eat a corn muffin and I’d wonder how he did it so well.
This may be the best comment I’ve seen on RUclips ever!
Ahh... Groovin', Jeff!
So relax
Nothing but pure taste from Mr. Hamilton!
I love your playing Jeff.
The only negative is the inside picture blocks the drums! It should be on the bottom left, so I can see where the action is!
yes
Un maestro.
Una maravilla que se mantiene suspendida durante todo el tema musical.
Quiero aprender a tocar así.
Saludos desde Buenos Aires Argentina
I loooooooove it.........JEFF IS ONE OF THE BEST......
Tasty, tasty and so musical.
So fine! Nice recovery!
The time is called the "Split Season Blues" referring to the the 1981 Major League Baseball strike.
Wonderful touch!!👍. I feel like I’m a pro wrestler with two baseball bats in a china shop!!😂😂
You're way ahead of me. After watching this I've come to the conclusion I play like I'm deaf and blind using a sledgehammer in one hand and a leg of mutton in the other. The practice room beckons.
It’s like we just asked Jeff to pull up a chair, have a chat, and share a sandwich. No struggle here.
Just in case any new or learning musicians are confused, I think the description is incorrect when it says the bassist gets the first solo. Seems to be pretty clearly the pianist to me.
I hate it when drummers make it look so easy, lol!
Yeh man, yeh........
Who's playing piano!??!
Tamir Hendelman?
Absolutely a great musician and performer - but a very nasty and arrogant person. At a private home, he stopped the performance (in front of a crowd of perhaps 50) to embarrass a woman and her 90-something mother with Alzheimer’s. The daughter took a non-flash phone photo to help her mother recall the concert. Several in the audience spoke about it afterward and were appalled, including me. Jeff Hamilton lacks humanity. (I’m told this is widely known.)
oh thats not good at all....😮
Piano is mixed too high ... you can barely hear his ride cymbals.
