Awesome news! I was really hoping SP got picked up by people that at least have some interest in the hobby, this is even better than I was expecting though! Definitely looking forward to see what happens with SP moving forward!
Looking forward to see SP’s new steps under Will and his group’s leadership! One big hope is that lead times and prices can come down a bit. Hoping for a lot more excitement in the near future.
Agreed, their prices have always been a little bit higher (understandably as they have a more manual process) so it'd be nice to see them get more competitive with offerings
Really good vibes from Will here. Wishing him and his team the best. Thankful that it’s being taken over by someone that understands the keyboard hobby. Also good questions from Taeha, good video all around
As a Portland native myself, Will gives me strong Portland vibes, great to see an enthusiast in leadership there! It seems SP has a cult like following in the hobby, this makes me more interested to pick up a set! Best of luck for what’s ahead!
@@TaehaTypes haha, depends on what part of Portland you’re in, but that sort of hopefully friendly hipstery artsy vibe is the one I’m picking up here, but to paint Portland as being made up of exclusively those sort of individuals is no doubt too broad a brush stroke.
So stoked that SP has new owners! I love SA caps better than any other profile... best sound, best feel, best typing speed. Looking forward to more GBs on the way!
I think that while GMK and other companies got a boost and made use of extra capital during the pandemic to optimize their production process, which led to lower pricing (USD 99 Base Sets) along with faster lead times (within 6 months), Signature Plastics did not take the initiative and is being caught on the wrong side of the fence which has led some folks to hold off on DCS sets along with other profiles because of pricing concerns relative to MOQ. In that respect, I'm hoping that Will can take this time (since things are slow in the hobby atm) to explore optimizations in the production process, and perhaps start competing with GMK on the ground of MTNU as well as KKB on DCS with respect to price relative to MOQ as well as getting lead times within a year or so. Looking forward to SP continuing to be in the keyboard space, I really would want to work with SP as a prospective keyset designer.
I might try them again, I bought a few sets, Melissa wasn't the nicest as far as customer service, so I never got into them more. At the time I just thought she was a customer service person, I didn't realize she was part owner.
Yep, me too, something similar. I always wanted another color for a second keyboard, but the emails seemed as if I was bothering the person. I know it was a girl or woman, but I didn't remember the name.
it's good to see it's actually going to a keyboard enthusiast which means there may be a more fair focus on keysets....feels like in the past it was always a side project for sp and would take quite a long time to get the sets out.
It's so weird, after not thinking about SP for years I randomly went to their site earlier this week to see if they still sell that LCARS set. Strange timing.
I am a big fan of SP keycaps, got SA Retro, SA 1976, SA Tatooine, DSA Lightcycle and many more, the quality is very good, I am very happy that the company will continue his activities :)
ABS SA is my favorite! I have SA Recall, SA 8010, SA Bubble, SA Nightlight, SA 1976. Unfortunately I have only been able to get a few parts of SA Godspeed. I'd love to get SA Skywriter too.
5:30 "It's been here for 21 years" longer than that, no? Maybe under different leaders but SP has existed since at least the 80s since their keycaps are on Wyse keyboards, so just about as much of a pedigree as Cherry.
Yes, the factory has been there for about 40 years built by a company called Computec. Signature Plastics has been the company operating out of the factory for 21 years.
Not sure if they were at risk of shutting down (I think a lot of people assumed this myself included when the initial news broke) but here is the original news geekhack.org/index.php?topic=122321.0
Hopefully it will remain the original proud ABS SA we know and love. I've become worried by how SA profile has been replaced by the increasing number of sad reduced stature pseudo-SA profiles and "uniform profile" sets.
Glad to hear SP isn't going away - any company with customer service that good deserves to live forever as far as I'm concerned.

I’m a massive DSA enjoyer for my ergo boards. Glad to hear SP is staying around

Never been to Portland yet but its on my list haha. Curious what this Portland vibe is LOL

Agreed with Diego regarding hopefully lower prices/pricing quotes. Glad that Melissa and the crew will be staying on!

Bring back 1985 thick dcs, and make a beige set. Pretty please.
those old thicc molds gotta be somewhere
You guys had great retro keysets, unique even.
MORE DCS BABY
Don’t own a sp yet but have been looking at some lately glad they will be around so I can still own a few sets
This is great, not only will they continue, but ownership is still local as well!
First impressions, Will looks promising

I haven't really had experience with SP but having them go away would be devastating. Glad a piece of keyboard history is going to be kept alive 🥰
SP was the only place I could find high quality SA profile keycaps made out of PBT.

Great to see SP moving forward with new leadership and people who are active in the community.
Thank you Taeha for bringing this story to the forefront. A true journalist!
I'd like to know about the sp discord
wow!!!
Only seeing 6.25 bottom row keyboards in the background behind him does not fill me with confidence.
So they sold the business? Were they thinking of shutting down previously?

Owner wants to retire. Was looking to sell the business to keep it going after he retires.
오~오오^0^
SA not dead yet. Thank goodness ❤🎉

@@brooksrownd2275 SP also makes very nice PBT SA sets. I'd love to see them expand the PBT offerings.
