  • Hiking the 'Three Becks Trail' in Co Durham's largest forest, Hamsterley Forest. This is the longest and the hardest of the different hiking trails in the forest and the walk itself is fantastic, rated as difficult with plenty of steep ups and downs and I really enjoyed it. What I did not enjoy was the poor signage, which was intermittently good but also very poor. At times the named walking trail signs were replaced by coloured directional arrow heads, which would have been fine, unless (like me) you are colour blind. I only saw two mountain bikers on the trail all day and if it had not been for the hiker I bumped into just as it was getting dusk, who gave me directions, I could have still be walking around in circles to this day!
