What Are Lazy Throwbreaks in Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown?

  • FoN's fourth Tip of the Day looks at what to do at the start of round and Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown's "lazy throwbreak" system. At the start of a round, you generally want to backdash away then survey the situation. If you were to push a button, you can use your 6P / elbow or high crush the opponent with a low with good range. Though until you get a read on your opponent, the safe thing to do is backdash after R1F (Round 1 Fight, A.K.A., the start of a round).
    Throw breaking in VF5US is more challenging than most games with 3 individual throw break types: Neutral, Forward or Back throw breaks. To help out, there's a "lazy throw break" in VF5US inputted by holding: Guard then pressing the punch button right as the throw connects. A forward break would be: Guard + Forward, then press punch as the throw connects. And likewise, a back break would be: Guard + Back, then press the punch button as the throw connects. You may have noticed that the "Lazy Throwbreak" complements blocking serving as a bit of an option select: Block standing strikes, whilst attempted a throw break.

    For Directional Notation:
    7 8 9
    4 5 6
    1 2 3
    Each number represents the corresponding direction. 1 for "Down-Back", 9 for "Up-Forward", 5 for "Neutral" or no input, etc. Quarter-Circle Back = 214, Quarter-Circle Forward = 236, Half-Circle Back = 63214, Half-Circle Forward = 41236, etc.
    Legend:
    CH = Counter-Hit
    BT = Backturned Stance
    W! = Wall Splat
    For Input commands:
    P = Punch
    K = Kick
    G = Guard Button
    P+K = Strong punch
    K+G = Strong Kick
    P+G = Throw
    P+K+G = Special

      Lol, there wouldn't be much point in going for command throws haha. You already can get hi-counter struck for attempting a throw.
