Technically, it can go on forever. The final glitch makes it super difficult. You have to get every duck, while it's glitching. But sometimes, the glitch makes you automatically miss it without shooting, so you have to have some insane luck to get back to level 1. Good luck with that, rofl.
The devs did not program in "if duck shoots blue duck, dog holds up blue duck." They just programmed the dog to hold the same black and green duck regardless of the actual colour of the duck you shoot.
