I have a question, in the cleanup, Sonic still with the white, "background", what is that for?

I like to have the bgs there when I animate to make sure that my character feels like it's actually on the same planes in the shot. If i didn't have it there, there's a chance I might make sonic too big or small or in the wrong spot without that reference.
In ToonBoom, I have a white layer over the bg so I can also focus on the animation and not have my lines get lost in the bg while I work.
Sorry for the essay, but hopefully that explains my process a bit more.

Oh wait, I just realized what you were referring to after rewatching the breakdown for the first time in months lol. That is a matte layer that makes it easier to see sonic over the bg (it cuts out sometimes when I export and idk why lol). In ToonBoom, you would use something called generate auto matte for that effect.

Do you do the animating in a different soft ware? If so what iss it

The bg was done in procreate, the animation was done in ToonBoom Harmony, and the final compositing and color corrections were done in After Effects!
