- Castle Irvine, or otherwise known as Necarne Castle, is the family pile. It is located in Irvinestown, about 8 ks from the town of Enniskillen, in Fermanagh, Northern Ireland.
Now in ruins, the back part has been restored and is now the Enniskillen school of Eventing, ande a beautiful setting for major equine events.
Christopher Irvine is my 9th Great Grandfather on my mother's side - definitely on my list to visit!! Thanks for posting this.
He was my 11th great grandfather also on my mother's side lol we might be distantly related lol
nice to meet you distant cousin, it would be interesting to compare family trees. I'm in Canada. @@alisondennis4233
I am from Aotearoa New Zealand and of Maori descent. But recently found that my great grandmother was born from a union of a Maori woman and a man whose father was an Irvine from Fermanagh Co Ireland and had traveled to Aotearoa New Zealand in the 1800s. I traced the lineage back further and he indeed was an Irvine from Irvine castle and his ancestors from Dumfries Scotland. One day I will visit. I would love to see the places of my ancestors.
My family is supposed to be related to the Irvine family. My maiden name is Ervin. I read that this name was spelled many different ways. We have family that did make the family connection to the family there a few years ago. I did an ancestry DNA test and it came back 48% European and 40% Scotland! I live in the United States. I love my Scottish connection! ❤️
im a Irving too
This is Castle Irvine in Fermanagh, in the north of Ireland. The Irvines in Ireland came from Dumfriesshire in Scotland originally. They fought against the English throughout all of their generations and once hid Robert the Bruce in a Holly tree, this is commemorated in their coat of arms. They were also Jacobite's who fought for Bonnie prince Charlie against the English at the battle of Colluden.
