    That stupid eyelash, though! I couldn't see it in the camera monitor! Hey guys, i'm back after a super busy trip to Oregon/Washington and then coming back home to even more busy! Things should be slowing down a bit now so I'll be able to do the hoards of videos I have planned! How has your December been going? Oh, and yes, I realize the USA 2 has a 20 minute dive timer :p. That's the sapphire crystal model. You wouldn't even get sapphire from Seiko watches in the same price range. How's that "overpriced"?

    • @td8062
      @td8062 5 лет назад +4

      Seiko makes the divers with mineral glass, because mineral glass is more durable under pressure.

    • @simonbailey2151
      @simonbailey2151 5 лет назад +16

      AfgelikteBoterham I believe their rational for using mineral glass is that it is less likely to smash if your SKX hits a rock underwater. The cynic in me says that it’s just penny-pinching.

    • @td8062
      @td8062 5 лет назад +3

      @@simonbailey2151 no, they use it because otherwise it will break much more easlier. Saphire doesnt scratch that easy, but breaks more easy than mineral glass. Thats why they use it. Saphire glass is much more vulnerable to breaking compared to mineral glass. Its not a money thing. Seiko is everything but not a penny pincher. Maybe if you will look it up on Google why its better to use mineral glass underwater than saphire glass, you will understand.

    • @simonbailey2151
      @simonbailey2151 5 лет назад +2

      AfgelikteBoterham I think we're saying the same thing, in slightly different ways. Neither sapphire nor Hardlex are going to crack 'under pressure', as you wrote, at least not under the kind of pressures that normal divers will encounter. It is recognised however that Sapphlex, Hardlex (and acrylic, for that matter) crystals, although less scratch-resistant than Sapphire, are less likely to shatter upon a hard direct impact - rock or coral underwater, for example, or getting a bang direct to the face of the watch on dry land.
      I have diver watches with sapphire, Hardlex and acrylic crystals, and enjoy them all.
      Cheers!

      I'm on vacation in Mexico, but when I get home I'll have a single dome sapphire and new Submariner-style bezel from Harold at Yobokies waiting on me. Oh, and a shiny ceramic insert from DLW. Will they fit my red dialed Mako/Ray/Whatever It's Called?? After watching the video I'm doubting they will. I am surprised, but I honestly don't miss the solid end links from the white dialed Mako USA II that I sold. Do dig the polished clasp vs. the bead blasted. I was torn between the USA ii and the kamasu. Ended up with the kamasu because they bezel is better. The bezel is also thinner, so it makes the watch face larger. I also like that the minute and second hands stretch all the way to the markers. All are good watches. Don't think you could go wrong with any of them.

The short version is that these are coming to the US market in the next few months, but they will not be the mako or ray iii. Although it may be hard to get rid of that name as so many are using it. Still prefer the Mako USA II. The size is ideal. Ray II is still the diver deal of the century too. Mine runs about +1.5 spd after regulation and never varies. One thing I’ve grown to love about the F6922 is that it has very little positional variance. It’s a rock solid movement. Will be interesting to see WTF Orient USA calls this thing. I think it’s the Ray III whether they like it or not. The horse has already left the barn so to speak. Good to see the boys again!

      minitwatch Yobokies has both a coin edge and a submariner style for the Mako/Ray II/USA and all the SKX inserts fit so a ton of options. But the first one Harold sent me didn’t fit right (I think he accidentally sent the wrong bezel) and I sent it back but it’s been stuck in customs in Hong Kong for months so haven’t ordered a replacement yet. Hey Curt, great to have back again! Mele Kalikimaka brah! Now about this Orient, I think the dial face is pretty. The sunburst polishing adds some depth to the look. This is what I wish Seiko would do for their flat matte faces for most of their releases. If you get a blue faced model, I'd love to see how it would match up vs. the Mako II or USA model. I like the idea of not having a chapter ring insert and just letting you see the wall of the watch case surrounding the movement. Big con is the no drilled lugs. Seems to diminish the premium feel that the Mako II offered and even the Mako original had. The oyster bracelet is not my fav so I would put a Strapcode metal Mesh on it. Nice to have a sapphire crystal but I love the glare of the double domes, so a domed would be dropped in too. Then I think it would be a keeper if I were to get one, we'll see :)

    I really love the dial on the new Orient. It reminds me a bit of the sword hand seamasters. The only problem I have with the watch is the size. I know you measured it at 41mm, but it did look a bit bigger to me than the other Orients. Maybe I'm imagining it. If it's the same case and size I'll definitely pick one of these up in the future.

    • @BiffTannenBTTF
      @BiffTannenBTTF 6 лет назад

      There isn't a chapter ring like the previous version so the dial looks bigger. It may feel bigger on wrist because of that but the case is the same essentially.

    Really like the bezel and bezel insert much better on the new one. It’s a great looking watch but they cut too many corners. A stamped clasp and hollow end links on anything over $150 is a bit of a joke. I wish Orient would make these things quality all the way through and just charge a bit more for them. People would gladly pay for a quality product

    • @minitwatch
      @minitwatch  6 лет назад +1

      I mean, I got the USA II for about the same price when it was new. I don't understand it myself but I think the prices are currently being gouged by sellers due to its "new-ness". That has to be at least part of it, anyway. I am hopeful that the price goes down in a few months. We'll see!

    • @SunsetSheen
      @SunsetSheen 6 лет назад

      minitwatch same here man, I bought the Mako USA 2 when it just came out for $287 after discounts. I thought that was a fair price since it comes with a hacking, hand windable movement, sapphire, and solid end links.
      But even then, the bracelet has a mediocre stamped clasp. How much more does it really cost to put a proper milled clasp on there, a couple bucks? Just charge me $300 and give me a quality clasp.
      It’s the fact that a lot of these brands (especially Seiko and Orient), try to cut corners on little things like a clasp or end links that’s more annoying than anything.

    Hi Curt, great review & very entertaining with the "boys" as always! I'm having trouble justifying double the cost of this new model over the Orient Mako/Ray II. Arguably, the only real benefit is the sapphire crystal, which you could pick up an AR Blue Sapphire for either the Mako/Ray II, for around $32 bucks at crystaltimes.net. I paid $135 for my Mako II, so it's literally double for this new model. I can't see it; am I wrong?

    I have 5 Orient watches(Mako2, Ray2, Kamasu red, Kamasu green, Kamasu 4) now. They are all great watches, but if you shake them left and right softly for more than 10 seconds, they all speed up for 4 ~ 5 seconds immediately. If you do it again, they speed up more. Also, they all speed up approximately 10 ~15 seconds after walking for 3 ~ 5km or exercise in gym)
