It's time to use RFID tags on stickers that you stick to your front windows. They can just be read digitally from as far as 50 feet away and we could even just log what cars pass through the entry and exits of various intersections as well as controlled intersections and many cities already have RFID readers to track buses, traffic patterns and toll road subscribers. There's even RFID readers on many smart phones though those are configured for a few inches of range. The US has been using stickers on your front windshield for licence plate renewals and emissions testing for decades and various Canadian provinces such as Alberta have stopped with the renewal stickers on the licence plates. In the past, the licence plate was stamped so not too many people had the equipment to make convincing copies but now, they are printed so a modified inkjet printer is all that you need. It's like how less scrupolous independent cornerstore grocery stores have been modifying inkjet printers so they can print new expiration dates on their expired products.

"this is an exact copy of the plate on our CTV vehicle" -- then proceeds to show a novelty plate that has a different color text, a completely different font, a missing crown, not embossed, and completely different mounting holes. QUALITY REPORTING RIGHT THERE
This is a very simple issue to fix, all we need are license plates that have anti-counterfeit tech on / in them. Money is designed so it can't be counterfeited through design, paper, and other measures, why not do the same thing with a license plate? You can still make them out of metal, but add in complex computer signature design patterns, such as cryptographically orthogonal QR designs, and then an RFID chip (or another tech), the plate. Finally add a serial marker to the plates, but the serial must be a cryptographical orthogonal serial, that is determined based on the QR orthographic pattern, salted with the plate's ID / number. Now, since the solution is simple, you can probably spin up a test system in a day or two, how long until we have the solution in practice? 1-year, 5-years, 10? It's not up to you, to prove you weren't somewhere, it's the issuer of the ticket to prove you were in that place. It's simply enough to say: “No, prove I was there, show me a picture of the car, with the VIN visible.” If they can't do that, then they have nothing, so just refuse to pay and go to court.
Once, while waiting in line for ice cream, I noticed a blue car in front of me with the same license plate as mine.😮 After asking around, I learned it was a different model and color, so no cause for concern. However, during my recent plate renewal, I was shocked to discover $150 in parking tickets that I had no knowledge of.😢 It seems police checks on vehicle registrations should be more frequent.
You can pay for fancier affinity plates. The regular plates are plain because they want to make money selling you more attractive plates. The problem is the plates are printed now, not stamped so anyone can make convincing copies with just an inkjet printer.
However license plates are registered to an individual vehicle, which includes make, model, year and color so this is fine problem is entirely due to lazy people running Ontario
There are legitimate reasons to copy a license plate. Replacing one that's lost or damaged, for example. Or maybe you have an imported classic car that needs a different size or shape for the plate to fit properly. Both of these are allowed by the highway traffic act. If it's done for fraudulent purposes (ie. putting someone else's plate number on your car) the fine should be a lot higher.
How is forgery not a more serious crime with a more serious punishment? I heard this story this morning, and had to re-listen to it to be sure I heard it correctly. I've heard some head-shakers before, but this ... wow... this is on another level of dumb. I'd like to know how long someone would get away with selling and displaying a novelty Police Badge...
It would be so easy for ON to make their plates harder to copy like the rest of the provinces. It’s THE MOST plain and simple plate in the country. Just throw a graphic/logo on it or something.
For honest car owners. And people at work hard. I get it , But maybe they should start regulating. I have 3 vans replaced. And for The thieves I hope You put them on the right car. Because you were nothing but scondro's. And worse than dirt. I'm glad your mother and father raised you right very sad.😢
Isn't there a mechanism to cross reference plate to vehicle make/model? Or to look at the renewal sticker which certainly would be missing.... If it's determined in violation (especially at a parking meter) the vehicle could be immobilized or impounded. This is 2024, there's technology to be used!
I could maybe prove where I was because I could’ve been at work for example. How are we supposed to prove where our car was not everyone has surveillance parking lots. 🤔

It’s comical that one of the main jobs given to long term corrections sentences is making license plates. The country has been training them for their release.
Google maps with location on day to day will save you lol
Not the point is the 12 phone calls and 30 emails that you need to go threw to get it cheaper just to pay
@@nightfly1985They email you a link to your monthly travel history every month. Why would you have to try and contact them to get your travel history. The thing is, it wouldn't be much proof as the reason for the email is so that you can edit the record, deleting points and changing the place names in case they guessed the wrong store or restaurant that you visited. Also if you're bright, you would set a time limit for them to delete the data they have on you.
Note, they use the travel history to annotate the photos they download from your phone every day as a "backup".
@@nightfly1985 you've got pure nonsense in your head, the proof is in the location history, if you ever find yourself in this situation, bottom line.
@@TheGreatLaker try fighting with a big identity first thing they do regardless of you're case is reject it. Then by the 3rd phone call are email they will look at you're evidence Then lose it are close the case haft to re open it . Process the steps again.... I'm going to a process at the moment so far I go 5 phone calls and 0 return and 12 emails with 3 return saying their no case here
The individual provinces and states could go after the sellers for copyright infringement as they hold the copyright on their licence plantes.
I don't have my own car but it shows how messed up the law is
Should be illegal
The fine for the novelty plate cost less than yearly renewal 😔.
Men and women have the right to travel
These plates can be made at home. With the exact same materials. I know that i can make them, with embossing too.
This is Canada, nothing will be done. I see many cars with plates that are either hidden with dark plastic covers or paintless plates which can't be read from 15 feet away. Nothing is done and nothing will be done.
Can you use these license plates as replacements for the absolutely terrible ones we have in Ontario that peel like a bananas.
The worst part is he's never going to be pardoned for the fraudulent bills
This has been going on for years. It happened to me. I got 3 parking tickets. Good luck trying to prove your innocent to Toronto's cash cow APS.
A $140 fine? What a joke. How about $5000 for starters!
They need to raise the fine to at least $1000 if we want a greater deterrence.
I dont get it. So I can place q replica plate on my car and all I get is a $140 fine?? Shouldn't the vehicle be towed and driver charged with fraud etc?
140 dollars? what a joke. increase that fine way up in to the thousands at the very least.
This is ridiculous, only in canada happens this. We are not responsible for someone else crime, police and mto and 407 are responsible. They have to find a way to catch them and not charging athers. 407 need to have pictures of the car and match it with the plate number. Is not my responsibility to pay $59 because someone else duplicate my plate number.
"this is an exact copy of the plate on our CTV vehicle" -- then proceeds to show a novelty plate that has a different color text, a completely different font, a missing crown, not embossed, and completely different mounting holes. QUALITY REPORTING RIGHT THERE
So where do I order ? Asking for a friend 😂
Lol so someone copies our plates and we have to go pay wtffffffffff
Or we could just make the highway free, we pay enough taxes.
Bullshit. Prove it was me, not me prove it wasnt. Modified, intentionally damaged or obscured plates (covered) is rampant in Ontario .
IMO I have the same feeling about current Texas license plates. They look like something I can print using a monotone laser printer
FYI those Candian plates also work great here in the U.S. too for toll roads. Just saying for all those NYC people out there.
Where's the link to buy one of those plates .Thanks 😅
As I said, common sense is out the window.
Most boring looking plate too just look at some US plates in comparison
You can pay for fancier affinity plates. The regular plates are plain because they want to make money selling you more attractive plates. The problem is the plates are printed now, not stamped so anyone can make convincing copies with just an inkjet printer.
However license plates are registered to an individual vehicle, which includes make, model, year and color so this is fine problem is entirely due to lazy people running Ontario
Any chance those plates are offered in F-K TRDO form? Just curious…
Of course it's on us! Auto theft is our fault, scams scams scams it never ends.
Justin Trudope is the problem
Feels like plate duplication should be illegal.
Great! Now I know what to do!
Is that why there are so many Ontario plates in Florida?
What an outrage "the victims have to do some due diligence " excuse me Mr officer why do I pay taxes?
Yeah typical.Go after the novelty plate maker and not the person who illegally copies someone else’s number and plate. And mounts it on their car!
The company's that are owned.
For those novelty, plates that are not registered should start making them go down As the way you were at the ministry.😊
O nooo here comes digital plates where all cars are tracked
How is forgery not a more serious crime with a more serious punishment? I heard this story this morning, and had to re-listen to it to be sure I heard it correctly. I've heard some head-shakers before, but this ... wow... this is on another level of dumb.
I'd like to know how long someone would get away with selling and displaying a novelty Police Badge...
Novelty or not lic plates should not be sold period..would the powers to be allow replica firearm to be sold
It would be so easy for ON to make their plates harder to copy like the rest of the provinces. It’s THE MOST plain and simple plate in the country. Just throw a graphic/logo on it or something.
The ministry has to get off the royal asses and do something now!!!
For honest car owners.
And people at work hard. I get it , But maybe they should start regulating. I have 3 vans replaced. And for
The thieves
I hope
You put them on the right car.
Because you were nothing but scondro's. And worse than dirt. I'm glad your mother and father raised you right very sad.😢
Welcome to Ontario where crime pays.
Do something to fix this problem!!!
I'm definitely getting one of those plates. Great video 😊
Hey all you crooks out there. Sell/duplicate foreign plates. Just a heads up for law enforcement to watch for. Wow what is this World coming to.
DOUG FORD NO MORE FRONT PLATES PLEASE
But those plates are not embossed, so they can easily identify as duplicate. Cops should target tinted plates and these fakes, and they should stop eating Donuts.
