I appreciated how you articulated the nuances between the light and dark and its connection to Mercury in Libra. I have that placement in my 4th house with my venus sitting in my 5th house in Scorpio (Virgo Sun/Aries moon/Cancer Rising). I've been fascinated by the interplay of "light and dark" my whole life, whether that be obsessing over star wars, loving my goth aesthetic, or writing about people (urban fantasy is my niche and I have a degree in writing). I'd had readings speak to my Libra in Mercury being about the "prettiness/Venetian" side of the sign, but had never connected that Saturn aspect to the "light and dark" themes. My wardrobe itself is black and white with only minor splashes of color here and there. Thank you for these great insights.

I’m a Libra rising, Pluto in Libra - Mercury at 29 Virgo and Saturn at 0 Scorpio - cuspy Libraness lol Anyway, I rarely buy anything new. Only vintage, including clothing. Even as I’m listening to this I am making a headpiece for a photo shoot out of vintage flowers. Oh and I shoot allot in black and white. So incredible! I have a Libra stellium that includes both Mercury (conjunct with Jupiter and Pluto) and Saturn, with Venus in Capricorn. Throughout the course of my life, people have always remarked that I am articulate, have a pleasant-sounding voice, that I have nice handwriting and come across as rather poised. These all strike me as Mercurial characteristics with a Venusian "shade". And with Saturn in Libra, my parents told me that I was quite wise for my years as a child (I was even voted as "most mature" at some point in grade school). 😂 Thank you for your work! I relate to many of the life experiences you've mentioned but I think that your Saturn placement grounded you at a young age in a way I would have appreciated. Yes I have this placement, I could speak volumes on how accurate these themes are in my life. One of the things that came to mind after viewing this... Is that not many people know, because I didn't become well known or famous, & was a little too introverted as a teen to "make it" in music so to speak, however I was actually one of the first rappers in Chicago to develop a style called horror - core, which is pretty much a horror movie rap style. In my mind, I felt I had to channel all of these dark & grim happenings into something that acted as alchemy, ultimately leading to a more beautiful & bigger picture that overcomes the terrors of life. I didn't get to fully express my vision at that time, yet I'm sure the contrast between light & dark & the metamorphosis of light into darkness will always be a part of my expression, or as you would say my Dharma. I have both Mercury and Venus in Libra. Interesting to hear this as I’ve only understood my Venus in Libra which I have definitely experienced as being too easy going and co-dependency in the past.

I have Mercury at 29° Libra in the 5th House and in a Gemini rising. I am currently in post production on a film I made about the late great trumpet legend Roy Hargrove, who also had Mercury in Libra at 4°. In 2018 I spent the last year of Roy’s life with him making this documentary and he unexpectedly died at 49 years old towards the end of that year. Over the course of 2018 we shot in 6 of the most beautiful cities in Europe as well as in Los Angeles, New York and Texas. I am currently in editing and the film is aesthetically beyond gorgeous, but it is also pretty tragic and deep because of Roy’s untimely death at the end of filming, so your talk on Libra in Mercury resonates for me. Also if you listen to Roy’s music (which is out of this world incredible you can find him on iTunes and RUclips) the way he plays sounds like Mercury in Libra. Anyway, thanks for the talk, Acyuta. Patching broken things with gold - kintsukoroi - a Japanese art meant to honor the inevitability of breakage, and of flaws and imperfections. I heard long ago that Japan is ruled by Libra.
Important that you say similar elements can be combined even of not an identical placement. Especially useful for newcomers to aastrology. For example in my chart Mercury is in Taurus - so Venus involved again...Venus is exalted in Pisces...I write a lot of poetry. However Saturn is in Gemini, so connected to Mercury via rulership, so that severity and darkness arises here, even though the sign of Libra is not obviously caught up in the pattern. Many of my poems deal with dark themes, some from European folk tales such as the Baba Yaga story of the crone who lives in chicken-leg house surrounded by skulls....deep in the forest.....I call them 'tasty morsels'...but also I should mention...Mercury is squared by Pluto. As we astrologers say, the same 'chord' patterns turn up in charts like themes in a symphony.

Yeah I love that Smokey atmospheric polished poised thug type of character. Romanticizing crime. I know it’s bad but we as a people love to make and watch those kinds of movies. A really bad boy or girl but who still has some humanity left in them. Either extreme of too righteous or too far gone morally makes a good supporting role but the poised Venusian trickster with a heart leaves space for reform or for full self destruction. PS I've always thought it is important to emphasize what can go on when Mercury is placed in a sign different to the Sun. In a different element. In which case the 'messenger' of the solar god may be running a different thread when it comes to the subtle desire of the Sun sign. For example if Sun is in a Fire sign and Mercury in an Earth sign...how does the Sun communicate its intense, fiery desires when Mercury is busy getting down to practicalities? Although, it can be useful, I guess, for a Fire sign person to have some grounding! But Sun in a Fire sign and Mercury in Water?
I do not have mercury in Libra. HOWEVER, Mercury in scorpio is ruled by mars in Libra that’s is conjunct my ASC. And mars in Libra is ruled by Venus conjunct Saturn in sag. A little story: My father pulled a terrarium with broken parts and a fractured glass pane out of the trash because he knew I would like it. He knows zero about astrology; doesn’t believe in it. But he said I knew you’d want it, I’ve got you figured out. Lol. I am always repurposing and loving the broken things. And I relate to the “feeling” of Merc in Libra maybe even more than just merc in scorpio. If you were to read through my IG page you’d see me highlighting the dark, beautiful, and transitory nature’s of life. Just thought I’d share how mercury doesn’t exactly have to be in Libra to portray these themes; to offer an example of how the amazing symbolic tapestry of a puzzle that the birth chart can be.

(But I can't figure out how she plays into this) I was born with long fingers, so much so that my grandmother bought me a piano when she saw them (wank wank wrong keyboard, I'm tone deaf w/no sense of rhythm) However, I can/could type 250 plus, words per minute..on a good ole selectra. I was the Radiology transcriptionist for Olympia Medical Center in downtown LA and of course people die in the hospital all the time. I was a teen (adult?) goth in the 80s, loved roahl Dahl, Stephen king and Jim Henson’s dark crystal. I did not really know the Saturn relationship to Libra, this makes sense as a kind of austerity and strictness imported into harmony and beauty. I always thought of the libra as a way to make the darkness beautiful (especially the merc /pluto conjunction in libra), very goth sensibility and values. When I say goth I am referring not only to the 80s European music genre, but also the literary and artistic traditions of Symbolist art and Romanticism, Baudelaire, Caspar David Friedrich etc. As they played out in a career in fashion and art (drawing and painting) , it’s always so cool to see this in other lives and stories. Mercury 0 Libra conjunct Uranus and Jupiter in 10H. Venus in Cancer 7H, Saturn in Taurus 5H. Pisces Moon. Virgo Sun. Mars in Sag. Cap rising. Oddly, every placement points back to Venus in the storyline and I’ve never thought of myself as Venusian at all. I’m having a hard time balancing this new identity and want to dig deeper. The insight is a nice twist to my thinking yet seems to make sense the older I get.

I have Mercury at 29° Libra in the 5th House and in a Gemini rising. I am currently in post production on a film I made about the late great trumpet legend Roy Hargrove, who also had Mercury in Libra at 4°. In 2018 I spent the last year of Roy’s life with him making this documentary and he unexpectedly died at 49 years old towards the end of that year. Over the course of 2018 we shot in 6 of the most beautiful cities in Europe as well as in Los Angeles, New York and Texas. I am currently in editing and the film is aesthetically beyond gorgeous, but it is also pretty tragic and deep because of Roy’s untimely death at the end of filming, so your talk on Libra in Mercury resonates for me. Also if you listen to Roy’s music (which is out of this world incredible you can find him on iTunes and RUclips) the way he plays sounds like Mercury in Libra. Anyway, thanks for the talk, Acyuta. Patching broken things with gold - kintsukoroi - a Japanese art meant to honor the inevitability of breakage, and of flaws and imperfections. I heard long ago that Japan is ruled by Libra.
Important that you say similar elements can be combined even of not an identical placement. Especially useful for newcomers to aastrology. For example in my chart Mercury is in Taurus - so Venus involved again...Venus is exalted in Pisces...I write a lot of poetry. However Saturn is in Gemini, so connected to Mercury via rulership, so that severity and darkness arises here, even though the sign of Libra is not obviously caught up in the pattern. Many of my poems deal with dark themes, some from European folk tales such as the Baba Yaga story of the crone who lives in chicken-leg house surrounded by skulls....deep in the forest.....I call them 'tasty morsels'...but also I should mention...Mercury is squared by Pluto. As we astrologers say, the same 'chord' patterns turn up in charts like themes in a symphony.
So the play between dark and light differs in the south pole to the north pole? Very interesting!

PS I've always thought it is important to emphasize what can go on when Mercury is placed in a sign different to the Sun. In a different element. In which case the 'messenger' of the solar god may be running a different thread when it comes to the subtle desire of the Sun sign. For example if Sun is in a Fire sign and Mercury in an Earth sign...how does the Sun communicate its intense, fiery desires when Mercury is busy getting down to practicalities? Although, it can be useful, I guess, for a Fire sign person to have some grounding! But Sun in a Fire sign and Mercury in Water?

I do not have mercury in Libra. HOWEVER, Mercury in scorpio is ruled by mars in Libra that’s is conjunct my ASC. And mars in Libra is ruled by Venus conjunct Saturn in sag. A little story: My father pulled a terrarium with broken parts and a fractured glass pane out of the trash because he knew I would like it. He knows zero about astrology; doesn’t believe in it. But he said I knew you’d want it, I’ve got you figured out. Lol.
I am always repurposing and loving the broken things. And I relate to the “feeling” of Merc in Libra maybe even more than just merc in scorpio. If you were to read through my IG page you’d see me highlighting the dark, beautiful, and transitory nature’s of life. Just thought I’d share how mercury doesn’t exactly have to be in Libra to portray these themes; to offer an example of how the amazing symbolic tapestry of a puzzle that the birth chart can be.
The ability or the dilemma of understanding both sides of the coin especially in villain-hero situations where most people have clear opinions. This makes it hard to fit in the mold of societal norms. This is my experience of mercury in libra.

(But I can't figure out how she plays into this) I was born with long fingers, so much so that my grandmother bought me a piano when she saw them (wank wank wrong keyboard, I'm tone deaf w/no sense of rhythm) However, I can/could type 250 plus, words per minute..on a good ole selectra. I was the Radiology transcriptionist for Olympia Medical Center in downtown LA and of course people die in the hospital all the time. Worked as a womenswear designer for many years and love all things dark,romantic but extremely refined and minimal, pure. I love Belgian fashion designers like Ann Demeulemeester, Yohji Yamamoto ...darkness and beauty on a high level, extremely stark, fluid and elegant. I was a teen (adult?) goth in the 80s, loved roahl Dahl, Stephen king and Jim Henson’s dark crystal.
I did not really know the Saturn relationship to Libra, this makes sense as a kind of austerity and strictness imported into harmony and beauty. I always thought of the libra as a way to make the darkness beautiful (especially the merc /pluto conjunction in libra), very goth sensibility and values. When I say goth I am referring not only to the 80s European music genre, but also the literary and artistic traditions of Symbolist art and Romanticism, Baudelaire, Caspar David Friedrich etc. As they played out in a career in fashion and art (drawing and painting) , it’s always so cool to see this in other lives and stories.
