Really a new innovative product for preserving our casettes. Also they should be either rewinded /forewaded full length at periodic basis if not used regularly to avoid moisture/jamming. Jai ji always enlights us with new technologies/innovations in the analogue world ❤❤❤❤
🧡Here's my 2 Paise worth of observation. I agree with the humidity & moisture part. Magnetic tapes were invented, manufactured in countries that have cold, dry weather and they never had to pay any attention to the consequences of extreme humid weathers and rightly so, it wasn't happening in their country much, hence not their concern. In Bharat, we have extreme weather conditions that is detrimental to anything that involves PVC or Mylar, a material that is typically used for 1/2 inch, 1/4 inch (or other size) master tapes (Ampex, EMITape, BASF), R2R tapes & Compact Cassettes. Extreme humidity encourages the growth of a kind of fungi that is prolific on glass & plastic. While the fungi grown on sturdy glass can be easily wiped/cleaned, the same on tapes are a hopeless situation as they are completely eaten up by this fungi and there is nothing one can do to rescue the tapes once it starts growing. Keeping the tapes in a temperature controlled environment is a futile exercise. Once the fungi spreads on the tape, it is a done deal. I have seen the horrible condition of tons & tons of priceless original master tapes of Indian music (classical, film music, folk music, radio transcripts, speeches and more) on HMV/EMI, Polydor, AVM, Echo, Sangeetha & other labels poorly stored in their vaults (if you could call that!) and managed by people who are there just to earn their monthly salary and have no clue what kind of sensitive treasure trove they're dealing with. These historic recordings are beyond any hope of redemption. So much of amazing, precious music is completely lost forever, unless you have those rare, out-of-print, mint condition first pressing 🧿vinyl records🧿like brother Jai Singh does.💛
You are right, fungii also attack cds and they become unplayable, the best solution is making digital copies and store them into a hard disc, flac lossless compression works well without compromising on quality of the signal
Pl do a session on preserving cds without ripping them, my experience has been very bad many of the CDs even if stored in their jewel cases were attacked by white fungii, they produced a white layer and damaged the plastic sheet into which covers the media, no amount of cleaning would clear them, and cds become unplayable data was also not recoverable through a computer.
