Hi,
A sailor here. Would like to point this is a Tug and Tow. It basically works as a tractor pulling its trolley. You fill the Barge(Trolley) with all kinds of cargo and the tug pulls it to its destination. I would also like to point ,this kind of transportation is very common in european , and other western countries , they use these tug and tow in Canals also, it significantly reduces the transportation cost and reduces pollution. Anyways better late than never.
Thankyou
Certainly a much needed push for connectivity and certainly a cost effective one.
They needed to dredging , north india mae ganga mae paani nahi rehta , tehri dam ki wajha se , to ye route sirf kuch mahine ke liye economical aur operational rahega
Good development,Water way is cheap and effective mean of transportation
Now this is something monumental
Kudos to the executives who achieved this feat!!!
Great work print....young journalists are doing great work through print....happy holi..
Print is doing a great job. Please dedicate a separate section on critical economy related news especially new and progressive steps in infra development.
It's good to see that this vessel is named so.
Most credit goes to Sarbananda Sonowal, Cabinet Minister & EX CM of Assam.
Credit goes to nitin gadkari for pushing these most economic way of transportation for east and ne indie
1800 tons is 3 train loads ? Can you calculate this again ?
Good development
Padu port can't even be called a port it has one mobile crane how long will it take to unload the cargo really sad for 21 century.
The British built this highway with the Indian River steam ship company a flourishing river navigation pre indipendece right upto Sadiya Upper Assam on the Bramaputra. Of course with Indo Pakistan conflict it died a natural death
The inland water ways director now tells you that they are dreging now on the river and use of navigation lights and bouy .This should have been done years ago .Many white paper on this presented to them but no action last 30 years .
If regular schedule services India largest tea exporters Assam can export tea from Pandu instead of going all the way from Siliguri to Kolkata Halida .
Watch the Irrawaddy plan which is making a massive container river port inland at Mandalay 800km from sea for ocean going vessels .
Why can't Pandu be the same for exports from NE India .
The vision of the planners is very small while listening to Selva Kumar nothing new has come out .
MADAM, Rather than reporting some one should have travelled the path treaded by the Vessel to give an first hand account of the feat achieved...Do try and appreciate the rising trends in New Bharat... Jai hind
Good logistics alternative and also spurs further economic growth
where that cargo?
Extremely important for industrial development of North East and supporting projects for various refineries expansion
Very good efforts from Inland Waterways Authority and Sh Nitin Gadkari
There's no doubt that Gadkari is one of the most efficient (if not "the most") Minister of Modi Cabinet, but this vessels arrival in Pandu Ghat of Guwahati has nothing to do with him. Sarbananda Sonowal is the current Ports, Shipping and Waterways Minister of India. Hence all credit should go to Sonowal.
Moreover Gadkari Ji's performance is not upto mark in Northeast, as many national highway/road infrastructure projects are in stalemate condition. Whereas BRO is doing some fantastic job, which I presume comes under Ministry of Defence.
The Print needs to have a dedicated show on Infrastructure. Such much needed Infrastructure & connectivity projects not only help in Socio-economic development of the region but also have great positive impact of Employment Generation.
India is a big country & naturally people tend to not stay aware of the Infra development unless you have keen interest in it. Having a show on Infra would help people remain aware about their surrounding regions.
