    Nope. The “landlord” was Sidney Fields (1898-1975). “Col. Klink” was Werner Klemperer (1920-2000). - BG

    This is what you call good clean comedy that has lasted for decades. That was real talent! What a difference compared to the garbage that gets passed off today as comedy full of swearing & dirty jokes.

    For the record, there were no writers. Abbot & Costello were a comedy team dating back to the last days of vaudeville. They wrote their own materials. This as were many others one of their own routines adapted to television.

    If you'd like to watch a really good movie of theirs, (one that doesn't require watching other movies to understand and appreciate it), do "The Time of Their Lives" (1946), that's an historical-drama-comedy considered one of their best.
    For the best version of their "Who's On First" routine do the one below because it begins with info, the year and place if was performed. And this version is consider the best rendition, as they did the routine many many times with slight improvisations, but this one is favored by most... ruclips.net/video/kTcRRaXV-fg/видео.html

    Abbott & Costello WERE the writers. They wrote all of their own stuff plus Costello ad libbed a whole lot. In their movies I read that the writers would give Lou Costello a script and leave out his lines most of the time. He just knew when he was supposed to speak or respond to someone else's lines. Then he would write his own lines or just ad lib during filming if he felt like something else was funnier.

    • @rollomaughfling380
      @rollomaughfling380 2 года назад +1

      Nah, it's an old vaudeville maths routine, performed by many others as well. No telling who came up with the premise, really. And they weren't writers for their radio, films and TV shows, though ad lib was allowed for. Eddie Forman (their head writer from their radio show of the same name) and later Sidney Fields were head writers on The Abbott and Costello Show, for example.

    We see "13" and know it represents "1" ten plus "3" ones. He's ignoring the fact that the "1" is in the "tens" column, doing the math as if the "1" was in the "ones" column. So "13", instead of having a value of 10+3 (which equals 13), has a value of 1+3 (which equals 4). So, he does 7 x 13 which equals 21 as if it were 7 x 4 which equals 28.
