A thing to note about Dolphin is most builds on the site past standard 5.0 feature a Auto updater which can be used to auto-update to the latest dev version or latest beta version on boot up so you don't have to download it again to keep it up to date. The dev version is for all up and coming features the Beta is basically the latest universal stable build I do dev but if your net playing with a friend on Linux they are forced to Beta so Beta is recommended to be on for that while not important for this video it is important to keep in mind for any multiplayer games you have plans to play on your emulator with friends.
Emulation just is to good not to look into because the dev teams behind it do there hardest to make sure the emulator is fully accurate to the Gamecube/Wii. And unfortunately with the gamescapes game preservation rates at its lowest in a long time because the Eshop for WiiU/3DS was taken down Jailbreaking/Emulation is unfortunately becoming the only feasible way to fully be able to play some of these games.
Also another thing to note about the homebrew channel from my experimentation is it accepts FAT32 formatted cards usually those by default can only be formatted if there 32GBs or lower but Homebrew channel actually accepts multiple partitions of FAT32 up to if I recall correctly 8 separate partitions what this means theoretically cards of 256GBs or less are allowed so long as they are partitioned into 32GB blocks in the FAT32 format. Some Partitioning software can even partition larger cards into FAT32 while keeping it all in one block which I assume is multiple Partitions layed out in a single array but none the less done right you can use a larger SD Card and its worked beautifully for me. I will say this does increase load time as the card now has to load all the partitions used instead of a single partition for the cost of space but this load time from what I seen mainly only effects loading software and games to use in homebrew channel and as far as I can tell no bearing on the games ability to load or the time it takes to load is effected.

For the remake remaster, I like a control scheme that I’ve discovered in Shenmue!!
It’s where you make right trigger your movement and then you just steer the character with either the joystick or the D pad!!
It works excellent with tank controls, because it frees up your thumb constantly having to hold up!! It makes it to where you walk by pressing the trigger down halfway and you run by pressing it down all the way and then all you have to do is steer everything else is still the same!

You're take on playing it emulated in Dolphin missed that you can play at 1x resolution and also have it super-sampled (SSAA), so that both the 3d and 2d elements are treated together. It's basically what you were asking for in the video, but just didn't get the combo quite right. The shadow maps looking pixelated is because you disabled the GameCube's native texture filtering when you set Texture filtering to Forced-Nearest instead of leaving it on on Default. Anyway, nice video. Cheers.

      @Antillles Год назад

Yeah, I was playing with this on other games and the results are very interesting. On Wind Waker, the original Depth of Field gets reduced with each increment of resolution. By the time you get to IRx4, the effect is unnoticeable and is better to just turn it off using a code. But on IRx2 and SSAAx8 (or even 4) you almost get the best of both worlds, the resolution is clean enough with the close elements and the DOF is still there.
Now I'm curious on how the RE remake may look with this setup.

I've worked professionally creating artwork for publication and generally artists and production staff keep their own backups of work, sketches and notes etc.
An industry that didn't chew up and spit out staff, maintaining good relations with them could probably access a wealth of assets and supplemental materials when panic sets in years later when you've suddenly got to deliver a remaster on time at a set budget.

Some of us work so much and are often so busy that the only time we have for ourselves is watching nostalgic RUclips vids about things that remind us of better days when we were younger. Also is great ASMR for some reason the RE music sound effects and the smooth voiced commentary really helps me chill out when I’m stressed. We get so much content for free off RUclips and we can deal with sponsor reads and you deserve some payment for all the work you put in. Overall a great technical comparison of versions. I recently went back to the original on dolphin, using the native resolution but with super sampling and a crt filter enabled, and the game holds up great. There are a few more differences between the original and remaster that could be mentioned.
    1. The MO disks are no longer based off of the gamecube design, and are now redesigned to be more generic looking.
    2. There is at least one outdoor background with an error in the remaster, where the devs accidentily cut off a tree asset, but can only be seen in 4:3 aspect ratio.
3.If a room is too small, like the east wing save room, the widescreen option will completely cut off some of the background details, with no panning and scanning.
    2. A new very easy difficulty was added, which many people now mistake for easy mode due to how difficulty options are described in game.
    5. The PC version can run at up to 120fps with the variable refresh rate option.
It's great to see someone who loves this game so much put in this much effort, you got a subscription from me.

I just found this video (and channel) randomly to have on in the background as i worked... I just spent maybe 55 minutes watching the video and the other 8 doing my actual job, weirdly addictive to see how the re-makes evolves whilst staying the same. True though, it will forever be the god of remakes.

The interesting thing about the remaster is that some of the rooms were redone in full 3D like the main entrance hall along with those FMVs that they replaced which they did have a few dev diaries talking about that stuff. Funny enough I played the PS3 port first since I initially imported my copy which came with additional FMVs you could view on your PC and the inclusion of Wesker's Report which isn't on the western port to my memory.

I myself prefer simply supersampling the image with maybe 2x resolution scale when emulating. This way the image gets really nice, smooth and anti-aliased but not get overly sharp with textures and other assets revealing their old age. Dolphin and Duckstation work pretty well like that. Unfortunately PCSX2 does not support supersampling like that.

You probably talk about it (Im still watching), but my biggest source of confusion with trying to get new comers to play RE1 Remake is having to explain that Modern controls on the analog stick are not Tank Controls.
After that it is actually trying to explain that RE4 still has Tank Controls.
Outside of that, RE Remake is my third favorite game of all time. Ive done everything in this damn game. I wish I had the Music Videos I made with the preview footage. I had Rollin' by Limp Bizkit synced almost percectly to commercial footsge.

This remake makes me think about 2 things in the current 2023 state of gaming.
    1) What if Mikami did go back to direct Remake 4 like he did Remake 1?
He was busy with Ghostwire from my understanding. And unlike Re2/3, 4 was already over the shoulder therefore ruining it would be way harder than making it great IMO.
Yet I wonder if Mikami would have changed Remake 4 more or would have made it more faithful.
Something very funny IMO cause the copy paste was the game at its best, the village, water room, Verdugo etc.
    2) Is Remake 1 comparable to the phenomenon of GTA San Andreas.
People forget that San Andreas is basically one of the last AAA games with “old graphics”.
If Re1 got yet another now 3rd person remake. Would it be Re1 + Lisa + new extras… or would it be a cut like Re2/3 did for those with eyes.

    • @AvalancheReviews
      @AvalancheReviews  Год назад

I would assume they would give it the 2r and 3r treatment. Over the shoulder and all that. And since we basically have a perfect remake of the game already, I'm fine with them trying it out. If they fail, we still have this incredible game to play. Not a bad scenario.

When Paramount queried the feasibility of a blu ray remaster of TNG it hit a resolution brickwall : shot on 35mm but every episode cut for video broadcast. They could've just crossed some fingers, hit 'render' and taken some serious naps.
Instead they dropped $24+ million recutting each episode from the 35mm masters p r e c i s e l y matching what was broadcast. It's the only Picard you need to see.

In regards to the emulation piece and the contrast between the 2d and 3d elements. One thing that helps with this is to install reshade and throw a solid CRT filter on top of it (they're in the retroarch section). Something like CRT Lottes works really well for gamecube . Set the resolution to match your game resolution or even below like 720p and you'll get a very sharp and convincing image!

You forgot or didn't know, but the RER remaster has some peculiarities within the soundtrack, it was speed up and high pitched for some reason compared to the original gamecube, making the mod that fixes this and the REupscale project essential for a enhanced experience.

I wish they would remake this but use all 3D graphics, giving us the option of classic fixed camera or RE4 style camera. XSX and PS5 can do these pre-rendered graphics in or close to 4K in real time so why not. Capcom can then port that version for the next 20 years.

That posterization banding in the CG sequences on PS4/5 probably has something to do with the color space or decoding used. I’d be interested to rip the raw sequences from the PS3 and PS4/5 versions to see how they were encoded.

As a person who played PS3,PS4, and Xbox one, I deadass enjoy the PS3 version more because it’s darker and the assets or pre rendered backgrounds aren’t bad, they just add to the aesthetic. Yeah the frame rate is usually mid 20s to high 20s but you get the old DualShock feel as well idk maybe I’m weird🤷🏽‍♂️
