- In which I give the much requested overview of the @Erica Synths SYNTRX, demonstrate it pure sound and functionality and give some patch ideas. I kept this on purpose very raw and "let's listen to oscillators for a few minutes" for the headz. For more musical examples, watch this playlist: • Making an album

After two months spend with the SYNTRX and recording an album with it, I feel comfortable to make a more detailed video. I give some ideas how it can be more than a synth in the studio, show the raw sound of its individual parts and give my general impression on it.

this is on the top of my "synths I cant justify the price for but I desperately want" list.
Hello!
I remember you! I think it’s worth the cost. Wendy Carlos would love this!
I love this synth and I love Wendy!
I don't create or listen to the type of music you'll hear on this channel but I subscribe to Hainbach because he hears beauty where I hear noise and rhythm where I hear chaos and that's amazing to me. I love this channel!
That comment made my day, thanks!
Well Hainbach. FINALLY!! Someone made a video showcasing what this instrument can do. Been waiting for months. For months I tittered between getting it and not getting it because I couldn't see how good it was other Jean Michel Jarre endorsing it and Tuna The Cat staring at it unemotional. In any case I took a dive and got me one but then I began to wonder if I had made a mistake but your video has put all my fears to rest. It is worth every penny. Thank you a million for making this in depth video. I am now ultra excited to receive my Syntrx. : )
This must be the best synth ever. I love every knobtwist of this video! Thanks for the Wavetek tip.
When this video started, I thought my laptop was crashing.
I hope you are able to also do an overview of the Syntrx II. I love your perspective on instruments and your creative process and would love to see what you think of the second iteration of this machine.
Good to see you again Hainbach!
lol youtube always sounds like that when i've changed samplerate in the background.
Great video. Been looking forward to you doing something like this. Thanks Hainbach. As always like you content.
@HAINBACH, I just bought one mostly because of the shading it gets. That lets me know it’s perfect for my style of weird. Great tour of the pots and matrix!
I'm so glad someone else thinks its oscillators sound like test equipment! I thought that the other day but attributed it to my being a newcomer to electronic instruments (though not to electronic music-especially early electronic music).
@hainback , really nice video, man. That thing looks amazing. The really gritty sequence with the distortion in the middle.....THAT sounded killer.
I had a chance to play with the original EMS Synthi A at a studio for some time. I couldn’t get myself to stop playing with it.
That's what I'm afraid of once I hook my JP-8080 back up 🤣
9:30 - that noise with verb is just perfect!
Did you strap a pair of speakers to your head? The sound is so incredibly warm.
Thanks for this pur sound of all the sections. I am now even more awaiting my unit to be delivered soon.
Thanks sir. I can’t believe it, but I’m actually considering selling a bunch of stuff to fund this cool synth. It seems accessible enough, yet flexible enough still to provide years of exploration.
I think this synth does that. I was just watching this before reading the comments, and I was calculating in my head how many of my synths I would have to sell to buy one of these. I just sold a few as part of my New Year tidy, but I'd have to sell at least two more to justify this.
Noisy, but I do love the way that verb sounds!
Great stuff, are you aware of the iVCS3 app on iPad? That's a fun thing for relatively little $.
1:11 Hello, does this mean that it is behaving like an envelope follower? Is it amplifying the audio in to CV level?
IVCS3 may have warmed me up for this the same way the Ripplemaker app led to me getting the 0-Coast.
Those variable voltages at 16:43 remind me of the colored pegs in on the VCS3 and iVCS3.
After years of lusting after a working VCS3 this shows up... thanks for the inspiring review!
Going to try filtering the 0-coast through iVCS3 for now...
iVCS3 is such an amazing app, its really almost worth buying an iPad for that app alone :)
Can't wait for getting mine and compare it (at least soundlike) with my memories of the AKS we used to play (or tinker with?) in the early 80s. Tho, without any kbd or seq, it's more like a Putney or (considering the form factor) a simple Synthi A, but wearing a tuxedo...🤗
The closest we get to an EMS VC3! Thats so cool!
iVCS3 on iPad is pretty cool!

I’m so happy someone mentioned that. I love that app. Crazy thing is it can print at 96 kHz if you override the apple sound card. Pretty darn good quality imo. I spent many hours at the beach playing with that thing, and it is so addictive.
Amazing video… saving up for one of these, starting NOW!
Got one on a payment plan! LOVE IT!! How are you connecting yours to the 0 CTRL? CV? Gate? or just Output? Thanks love your videos!
Whis i could get one, i would go on a week forest-trip with this device, awesome!
Lovely review. Lovely synth.
Very nice, was waiting for you making a video on this synth.
Does it make an impression of "inspiration machine", when you get unexpected but lovely results? Or does it require a lot of learning to get good sound out of it?
I think I answered that by making an album with it in four weeks 😄. Not a lot of learning to make it sing, it just sounds good from the start. But lot of room to get good at it
If I set the reverb on my unit anywhere near the setting you used in the beginning voice / mic input demo it just feedbacks into oblivion. I know it’s a noted issue but I’m wondering if my unit is particularly bad. The reverb is pretty much unusable…
hey hainbach, erica uses an aggressive polivoks filter on a lot of their other products that doesn't lose bass when you add resonance. does this filter lose bass like a more traditional moog filter? sounds like it did, but you only swept it for a moment.
my syntrx should be shipping monday-ish and i've never been more excited over a piece of gear.
Now I really wanna dust off my Eurorack case and fire up my Polivoks VCF, WMD Geiger Counter, etc...
There is bit of bass loss with upped resonance.
Love that patch matrix.. hope they release it as a eurorack module with e-paper labels that can be fed a CSV text file.. that would sell to just about everyone!
When you say, “it’s not recommended on bass if you want to go on vinyl later on” do you mean that it brings too much low end into the mix for the final vinyl master?
Dang you Hainbach. Now I’ve got to buy another synth. Ha. Just kidding. That sounded wonderful. I’ve got one on order. Thanks for the demo, and I can’t wait. I didn’t hear anything I didn’t like.
Have you tried the Analogue Solutions VOSTOK or a HORNET Synth. Wondering how these compare to the Synthi.
this feels like something Soma Labs would make.
Electronic Sound is Safety in Solitude.
Stoked! 🔥🔥🔥
Thank you for doing this! I have a SYNTRX on order and this makes me look forward to it even more. Question: do you find the filter frequency and response controls a little quirky? For example - at 11:27 the filter seems to be completely closed with the freq knob at about 11 o clock. And I am not sure I hear it self oscillate at all. The response control seems to have a lot of travel before it sounds resonant at about 4 or 5 o clock. Thanks!
Yes, the filter reaction seems to be tied to the volume you put in - you can get different behaviour of depending on what comes in. I haven’t figured it out 100% yet.
Great introduction to an interesting synth Stefan, thanks for sharing it with us. One question, does the nut need tightening on the Vu meter switch, or am I obsessing? :-)
Keep up the good work my friend.
Goddamn that IS one mellow filter.
THIS is the video I’ve been waiting for. In theory, I love the idea of this synth, but I’m not 100% on it. I’m wondering how it will fit on my tracks with my mostly more “conventional” Moog and Sequential gear. I do have an Erica DB-01 and love it.
Sound like my sound experiments I did 40 years ago with my ARP2600 ring modulator and external inputs .. and the string reverb
This seems like something Vril would love...
Would you trade out a ob6 desktop for this? I'm thinking i might have to sell mine
The synth i should have gotten
What headphones are those? They look comfy
checking this one again, nice one! How usable are the speakers? Thanks!
I like them!
It’s actually like the hardware version of arturias ems plug in..... it has the sampler&hold in the same place with the same controls.....
What headphones are they please ???
Love this! :-)
Hi ! Cool video ! Thanks !
Can you tell is it fat or flat ?
Of all new non-modular synths I know, this is the best in terms of raw electronic sound.
Hi, im Antoni. Can you put link to your discord server?
Look at the size of that thing!
its really nice but not $2700 nice
Please stop pushing your album, I'm almost broke from all the vinyl pre-orders I've made and I need a couple weeks to save up for yours!
When I saw the thumbnail I thought it's an EMS Synthi
Typical, a synth that's about as close to my 'holy grail' synth as you can get. Without it being prohibitively expensive. I've honestly wanted something similar to what EMS used to manufacture since the mid to late 80's. And it arrives at a time when my finances have never been as stretched, when I'm struggling just to maintain a roof over my head and food in the fridge. I just hope Erica Synths aren't making this a limited, never to be repeated run.🤔 Would my other half notice that the car has suddenly dissappeared I wonder? 🤔How much would a teenage boy be worth on the open market? 😆 (Not much if they knew how much it cost to feed him.)
Vodka martini time!
Wie immer vielen Dank, balsam für die Seele oder chilli im Arsch for sture added to the wishlist because to wish is free ;)
first demo that doesn't sound completely horrid but I feel like I'm taking crazy pills and the only one who thinks this synth is incredibly underwhelming sounding. Seems like people are listening with their eyes and are just excited because they see something that kinda looks like a synthi, but sounds nothing remotely in a similar league.
