Matt and Conan have such a broad appreciation of so many things. I wouldn't have thought they were "Smoky and the Bandit" fans, but they're just full of surprises. And I appreciate Sona's disapproval and confoundment at their obsessions.
If you're a horror movie fan, I HIGHLY suggest you check out Matt's podcast "With Gourley and Rust". It started as specifically doing the Friday the 13th movies, but they've ended up doing so many different series including Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, and Alien.
His co-host is actor Paul Rust (Netflix's Love, plenty of other wonderful things) and while they obviously discuss these movies, they tend to tangent for (quite often) sometimes twice as long as the movie they are covering.
When Sona says "This is a movie?!" I died!
Conan and Matt's knowledge overlap is, um, very extensive lol. When i came to the states 20 years ago I was hooked on Conan almost immediately. Ten years later I discovered Superego (Matt's excellent other pod with some unreal other improvisers), and that pretty much changed how I see comedy. Needless to say when they joined forces I was maybe the gladdest person alive.

I don't know if you listen to With Gourley and Rust, his cozy horror themed podcast, but Paul Rust's story about A) how he strategically faked a dry throat to get out of watching a PARODY sex scene with his dad and B) his long con involved Patrick Warburton, I immediately knew I found people that were exactly like me.

I smiled at Conan and Matt knowing how brilliant Jerry Reed was on guitar, one of the GOATs for sure.
Such a great funny ride, but even in all that madness Conan gave an honest, grounded little shout-out to the work and career of Jerry Reed, and then seamlessly went back to utter silliness. Stuff like that is what makes Conan so special!

I would say Sona's contribution exceeds laughing and looking pretty. By a thousand miles and more.
I mean I agree that her demeanour is utterly charming, but I think her incisive critiques of Conan, lighting them up, standing up for the women's side of things. She brings much needed balance. Conan is the BBQ, and Sona is the soft baked bun that comes with it.
Waay too over-acted. And formulaic - deride the host and laugh excessively (replacing an audience or laugh track)
The best thing about watching this on RUclips is seeing the expression on Conan's face the very instant he begins pulling stuff out of his ass.
There's this episode where he closes his eyes and obliterates Gorley about his favorite treat from L.A., after which there's a stunned silence, Gorley wilts and buries his head in his mic

I already loved Matt Gourley but now I SUPER love him because Smokey & The Bandit is one of my favorite movies too. I've seen it so many times that I have a bunch of it memorized, so I was cackling like a madman at 7am this morning at "Gonna stop at a choke 'n' puke, get a diablo sandwich?"
Ohmygod I LOVE Jerry Reed and I'm thrilled that he got mentioned by my favorite comedian. If only Conan and Matt could play one of the tunes he did together with Chet that would make my day. It wouldn't even need to be good.

What does Sona bring to the table? She is a classic straight (wo)man; a catalyst, an enzyme, helping to bring together all the comedic elements into an explosive reaction, just by being Sona.
Completely agree! Conan jokes around with Sona, but he is very smart. He’s known for years the incredible value Sona brings to the table. It’s why she’s there.
She has a great laugh too.
I quit sugar, caffeine, cannabis and red meat quite recently. Couldn’t sleep; night sweats and anxiety. Then I watched this and laughed my ass off. Now I can sleep like a baby. Like, this thing we are watching is literally theraputic. I have a feeling Sona knows what I’m talking about.

Reminds me of the time I was in San Francisco and I saw Ice-T at a red light in a bright red convertable corvette listening to Ice-T at a very high volume. He seemed pretty happy with himself.

Jerry Reed was a guitar-playing buddy of the great Chet Atkins.
He was one of the finest guitarists to ever come down the pike. He said the best guitar-playing advice he ever got came from Atkins who told him simply, "keep dropping that thumb..."
Atkins once quipped on stage, that he had recorded almost 20 of Jerry Reed's songs but every time he did, he had to figure out the entire tune because "Jerry never wrote anything down."

I watched a PBS special and Atkins introduces Reed, everyone claps, and out comes Jerry with a guitar. He sits down and manages to pull off one of the most rookie goofs you can pull and tries to plug his guitar in while the chord is live. That wasn't a Reed mistake, that was a goof by a sound person. Atkins jumps on it instantly and ribs Reed "how long have you been doing
this?" They laugh, (as much as Atkins would laugh), and start the song.
Not to take it out of context but Matt just called Sona "A Human Fleshlight"...

If you really want to get technical about it, we're all flesh lights. We emit multiple EM wavelengths, mainly IR, but it's a form of light.

I watched a lot of Conan in the past, but I un-subbed a couple years ago because there was too much on there I didn’t like. I’m glad I rediscovered it recently - because I like ALL of the current content. Please have Kevin Nealon on soon, if possible. I can’t get enough of his content lately.

I feel like we underplayed an important revelation here, we may have buried the lede, as it were. SONA HAS NEVER SEEN THE BANDIT MOVIES! Y'all need to set her down in front of a camera and stream Smokey and the Bandit and get her initial reactions to that great film. We love Matt! I was doing a Gourley deep dive and he and Amanda has a very stunning, original, touching, family oriented, and personal wedding. Maybe that I have ever seen. Look up Martha Stewart Weddings Amanda Lund and Matt Gourley.
I mean all these clips (and the podcast) are astounding, but this clip was hilarious but it's also the most frustrating. I listened patiently (and laughing) for 8 minutes and 19 seconds and not once did I find out what gizmo Conan was talking about.

*SUGGESTION* Couldn't the owners of Smokey and the Bandit allow Matt, Sona and Conan to do a "DVD Commentary" of the movie ? Listeners wouldn't need to "see" the movie, as we all know it pretty much by heart. Also, can Conan, Sona and Matt discuss the differences between "Sum Bitch" and "Son Of A Bitch"
