Barret has the most human dialogue of any character and i love it. This was a really damn good scene
All characters in FF 7 are awesome. FF7 ist the final fantasy with the most likable cast in the whole series. I totally love them since i playd the original back than as 10 year old boy and was totally blown away by this masterpiece.
The until its too late part makes me think of Aerith, but he could be talking about either of them
I was expecting him to mention Aerith but tbh his words seem to be referencing the love triangle in general and telling Cloud/the player regarding who they like - so either Tifa or Aerith. It seems pretty neutral.
(Before anyone replies, I don't care for your ship war or who is "canon" I find it childish tbh. I'm not here for over sensitive Clerith or Cloti fans who can't handle acknowledging that Cloud canonically has feelings for both and neither is better than the other)

Agree, I think Barret does ship whatever the player ships. The coincidence in some words or “fates” couldn’t be prevented by Barret (and it’s not like those words are cryptic of something like that).
I think that the only date aside Aerith or Tifa that suggests a girl is that Yuffie implies that Cloud like Tifa and Red telling Cloud that Aerith is in danger and he need to protect her.

The more I see of Barrett, the more fondness I have for him. He's a good man with a good heart. He's made some mistakes in his life, and he learned from those mistakes. His undying care for Marlene makes him all the more endearing. All in all, a fantastic character 😊

In Kalm Aerith said that she and Cloud went on a date. Barret thought of that. That they are official couple which he is talking about Aerith.
@@Matagu1 Aerith calls everything A dATE even with tifa and the others she calls it a date and later she tells cloud she treating this as a date but cloud was like I wish you wouldn’t, she asked him why and he said Am no romantic..

@personhi1011 dude ALL the dates are optional, but SE only did ONE kiss scene. Players choose who cloud dates, but only cloud choose who to kiss 😏 Even if Aerith is the 'canon' date as you believe, the contrast is still obvious lol

@@jinnimoo I'm not talking about the Gold Saucer date. Dude have you even played the game? There's the Clock Tower (this one is kind of debatable), the Casa Del Sol date, and the Chapter 14 date. And if any Gold Saucer date does have an argument for being canon, it's absolutely Aerith's. It's the only one to appear in the credits and is indirectly referenced repeatedly in the last 2 chapters.
@@bunni_zen And even then, the kiss feels so freaking weird to me. Like Tifa has all these doubts about Cloud's mental state, to the point of even seeing him as Sephiroth like an hour earlier. I like Tifa and this just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Like why did SE think this made sense here in the story? Should have been saved for under the Highwind imo
Barret and Cloud being bros is always going to be a treat.
What I like about this is you only get this scene if Cloud doesn't really flirt with any of the girls. So to me this is Barret being like bro, if you DO like one of them, tell them upfront. If you don't, then make that known so they can move on. Don't just let this triangle go on forever. He really is such a great friend, like I would LOVE to be buddies with Barret.
Cloud goes out of his way to save Aerith from Shinra in disc 1, because he felt her calling out to him. He did not invite Barret or Tifa to come with him on this mission, but they insisted. Barret understood this when Cloud says “please Barret I’m asking you.” (When telling him to get Aerith outta here) also the scene Tifa and Cloud are about to fall off the building Tifa says “if you want to be a hero you gonna have to do better than this.” She also refers this to Cloud because she sees that he wanted to be the hero for Aerith. Instead of being bias, some of yall need to open your 3rd eye. That awkward kiss y’all are raving about will never be mentioned again. Did yall see how he treated Tifa afterwards, he pushed her off of him when he wanted the black materia, is if that was his true love, you would think that would’ve snapped him outta of it. Because that date isn’t canon. At least Cloud and Aerith still intertwined their hands together to reference their date at the end of the battle with Sephiroth.
Barret has the best character development out of everyone.
He was definitely the most radical and had the most amount of room to improve. Cloud and barret are the most different from the start of the story to the end of it.
Barret pretty much meant anyone not just Aerith although honestly I would have thought he would point towards Tifa I mean he know her for a long time so I thought maybe he knew her crush on Cloud I guess he’s as dense as any other guy 🤨
Yeah, there's nothing about his words that screams Aerith or anyone in particular. It's pretty neutral, which makes sense since the player could go either way.
I also thought his quote could reference Aerith, obviously he doesnt about her fate but us as audience know what happens
Spoilers:
Even without saying it out right, this fits Aerith perfectly. I know I know, we're suppose to act as if Cloud could be with anyone equally, but by how the story flows, and with the hints we're given throughout, Aerith is the girl that matches everything and heightens the story the most.
Cloud's mom: Date a girl that's older. Ages: Tifa < Cloud < Aerith (all one year apart).
Aerith's payment for Cloud's bodyguard work: Date. Which is a plot point which was said very early in the game. Playing the game and going out with Tifa or Yuffie, makes that idea go nowhere. In contrast, achieving the Gold saucer date with Aerith makes it a natural progression of the story. From friends to lovers.
And this one in rebirth: Say it before it's too late. We know it's not too late for Tifa, we know Advent Children or events of the main game still happen way after initial FFVII campaign. Aerith on the other hand DOES have a time limit.
Heck, even their names and plot significants complement each other.
And Cloud's last date with Aerith, them walking. Some might think it's anti climactic, but remember Aerith ASKED Cloud what would be his perfect date, which he responded with walking.
Aerith, an anagram for Earth.
Cloud, for Cloud. The sky complements the earth.
The whole theme of the game is Life, and Cloud finding his identity and meaning in Life. So when the character represents LIFE dies, then this impacts Cloud the most. He lost his half, in a way.
Not planning on arguing with the other fandoms, I'm just loving the writing.

But not Barret, he is a character not a guy that played the game. So anyone could be in danger of die, sure the lyrics of Aerith song could push him, but imagine if instead of Aerith, it was Tifa who die, then the message of Barret would means to tifa? No again, Barret is not a player, he don’t know Aerith will die so he can’t be thinking of her.
When a character ships Cloud with one girl they say it literal. Like Yuffie teasing Cloud with Tifa that is not indirect.
So yeah, the devs could say: Barret could speak about losing cause Aerith is gonna die. But Barret still don’t know that.

People talking about how Barret is referring to 'Aerith' just because of the 'too late' part like as if he knows about her impending death. He doesn't. Did people forget that Tifa almost died when Sephy cuts her? That even Cloud thought it was ''too late'' when he saw all the blood.
Then there's meteor. Which almost destroyed the world and seems to late to save it. But before that, Cloud had a chance to confess to Tifa in the lifestream. You could say Cloud took Barret's advise on this. Could this also not be a possibility?
So really, Barret is not talking about one person specifically. He's like us, just as curious about Cloud's feelings for either of the ladies because he can clearly see there is something going on between them.

No, Barret is super neutral here. The “before it’s too late” line is referring to his former relationship with Myrna, and besides he doesn’t know that Aerith is gonna die later on.

its a bit more than just being an ex soldier... he really doesn't have/understand emotion.. period.. hes more like a robot than a person who just doesn't understand emotion.
You are indeed missing a lot. Cloud has had one very traumatizing past through SOLDIER.
Well yes there is some things you’re missing, but I think Remake and Rebirth have shown enough to explain his behaviour. He’s already a quiet and reserved person by nature. Add to that his trauma and insecurities, and you get someone who is completely emotionally stunted.
You know, I am a Cloti but I also think that the canon date scene is Aerith with Cloud, cause it seems normal that Aerith would drag him to do all these stuff. I think the date with Tifa shows, what WOULD happen, if any of those two were a little more outgoing.
But thing is, I just don't like Aerith in regards to Cloud. I really don't like pushy and clingy women like Aerith, so much seems forced and if she wouldn't have pushed herself on Cloud, they wouldn't have even left Midgar together. The relationship between him and Tifa though seems so much more natural, cause it has that awkwardness and shyness to it, so much unspoken feelings. Love them.
AND I really do think that Barret is clearly referring to Tifa. Why would he push him to Aerith? You really think he knows that she will die? It's unlogical. Tifa's like a little sister for him and he sees that she has feelings for him (and imo he has feelings for her too), so he encourages him to do something, until its too late and anything happens to anyone.

Refreshing to see a neutral take in the craziness that the ship war is haha.
I dont think I have a “ship” myself because both are valid and pretty much canon. The date scene has always been Aerith’s, she promises him a date, they go on a date. It only makes sense narratively. His date with Tifa, and a lot of the Tifa options in the OG are super out of character for “real” Cloud. I dont think Cloud really loved Tifa when he left Nibelheim, Tifa was just a physical representation of what Cloud wanted for himself. His promise to her wasn’t really for her it was for him.
Cloud tried so hard to hide himself and it just wouldn’t work with Aerith. She was the only one that could see right through it and he just sort of naturally would naturally. Aerith is just like that, shes bold. Tifa was too passive with Cloud to help him when he needed it in the beginning but then stepped up to pick him back up and forthcoming.
Aerith was what Cloud needed pre her death. And it took her death for the characters to learn and grow into better friends, comrades and push Cloud and Tifa from childhood crushes to a more mature kind of love. It took Clouds relationship with Aerith to get them there imo. I think it feels real
@@ISoundMasterBlasterI Yea, and if you haven't read The Great Gatsby Cloud can be paralleled with Jay when he was young and wanted to be a SOLDIER by viewing Tifa like Daisy. However, I will say Aerith is the canon love interest of Cloud because there has been so many references like The World of Final Fantasy when Terra tells Cloud "So when you find him, what are you going to do? Will killing him bring back the woman that you lost" and after Cloud's silence she replies "This isn't any way to honor her memory. To take your love for her and turn it into hate?" This right there shows that Cloud lost a someone who he "cherished the most" according to Cait Sith's prediction in FFVII Rebirth and he has been in this realm of depression even in AC. You can see other sources from SE themselves and that the main theme of this game is "rebirth." Aerith's "iconic" death was the climax in this trilogy so having Barret hint it is like foreshadowing to Cloud's beginning stages of revenge--in addition to having his mental state deteriorate. So many media, like Romeo and Juliet, or Titanic, have tragic love stories so I am honestly being just literate with the trilogy and am I interested in the theories of the possible alternate timelines. I feel that Tifa deserves better because you don't really need an insecure man helped with your own insecurities. That'll just worsen it. Many "Clotis" argue about the "kiss" but if there were a kiss then why do both of them don't say anything afterwards? Why does Cloud in the "date" talk about whether Aerith still has feelings for Zach. That is just no appropriate on a date and if I were Tifa I will just leave.
No idea what is canon, but Aerith and Cloud doesn't make sense to me. Cloud joined the army to get stronger so Tifa would notice him. His involvement in all of this is pretty much started because he wanted to impress Tifa.

You said it, I didn’t. Barret is clearly hinting about Aerith, saying before it’s to late, he knows the risk Aerith is taking to save the planet and he knows Cloud and Aerith has been on a date. How many non optional date has Cloud and Aerith has been on in the game? The mission date where Aerith asks Cloud what was his ideal date and he said “a walk” on the beach Aerith tells Cloud you will love my future self. How many times has Aerith told Cloud she is looking for the real Cloud. Aerith wrote and sang No Promises to Keep a song for Cloud because she knows her fate, in Aerith “my dream” she goes for a date with Cloud walking the slums, Cloud ideal date, Cloud and Aerith goes to the church referred to as “our place” the end of the game NO PROMISES AWAITS AT THE JOURNEY’S END. Now if you Clotis didn’t get the hint, which song starts the play, No Promises to Keep, listen to the lyrics, Aerith will reunite with Cloud in part 3 at their place, remember advert children is a movie not the game so it could and will change. If you Clotis are so smart, what are Cloud and Aerith plans with the white materia she gave to Cloud and what did Red say about it? Why was Cloud sword green? Aerith will be back.
There is no canon ship, they will never make a canon ship, and there is enough gaps in the canon with expanded material to allow for your own interpretation.

That being said my personal headcanon is that in OG timeline Cloud went on the date with Aerith,
In remake due to the events of Gongaga and Cloud and Tifa conversation after it in which he allows Tifa in and let’s himself be vulnerable in front of her (something he never does in the entirety of the compilation of ff7)and Tifa instead of ending their friendship (which I’m pretty sure is what cloud was expecting to happen when he went into that room to talk with her) and instead ends with Tifa vowing to stand by his side and protect him
I think this event changed their relationship between each other leading to them having a gold saucer date……but like I said the entirety of this is headcanon because there is no canon ship, just overzealous shippers

honestly... cloud doesn't really make sense dating anyone period tbh... cloud doesn't seem to really care about anything hes mostly emotionless... more robot than person and doesn't seem to have the same feelings they feel for him...

He is obviously referring to Tifa. Barrett is like a father figure to Tifa. They owned the bar together. They were the ones fighting Shinra from the start as a team. Of course, he cares for Tifa and knows Tifa likes Cloud. He wants Cloud to reciprocate.
Not to mention he's seen Tifa almost die a couple chapters before that, and is not a prophet to be able to see what would happen to Aerith. Still, the wording is neutral enough to let anyone hear what they want to hear

The ship is over. Cloud and tifa kissed. I don’t care what date was so called cannon. It’s still in the game. It’s no fan fiction. He didn’t kiss no one else not even aerith. The game and devs have showed you what clouds true feelings are with everyone on each date. And tifas is by far and away the most intimate (obviously). And under the highwind is coming. It’s over Cleriths. You guys misinterpreted who clouds true love was. I know y’all still won’t give it up I know. But deep down in the back of those brains locked away. Y’all know what it is!
