    How does a kid walk into a manufacturer and order that quality of instrument, and perhaps, more to the point, pay for it.

      @burnbassoon yeah, i get that. But a good bassoon has never been cheap, and a long time ago, savings and earnings were proportionate less. Her parents were working class folks with less savings for luxuries, just saying. I'm 64 and a good quality German instrument, and I don't mean Heckel was going to set you back when I was 20.
