This was actually on my Uncles property. He didn't build it, but he did take care of it until he passed away in 2014. I have a lot of memories of family reunions and summer picnics in that park. I live in California now, but thank you for sharing!
There used to be a club of men & women that would do a reenactment of Revolutionary War Era living during a weekend usually around the 4th of July. The stone outside of the entrance to the fort was a cooking/drying stone.
Cliff,
It's these unexpected discoveries
that are especially fun!
Cheers,
Rik Spector

Cool fort but as you said very susceptible to fire. Interesting. Thanks
Back in the 80s and for a long time afterwards 18th Century re-enactors were many. Some were special like the unknowns involved n this forts creation.

If you have the time, meadowcroft Rock Shealter isn't too far away.
Brief and to the point, yet, being factual and not boring.
Very interesting - Thank You!
The original forts were most likely built with chestnut , and would have been very rot resistant . It would last far longer then even today's pressure treated wood .
These forts had TWO weaknesses. Beavers, and then fire. Hahaha. Yeah that's goofy, sorry. Very interesting historical site, too bad it can't be better maintained as far as the remaining structure goes. Thanks for another fun adventure, Cliff. Love whatever you show us, be it historical canals, great hikes, campsites, or whatever! Thanks!
Interesting
I don't remember if you've ever said how tall you are. That might help in these perspective shots
