Uncharted 3 was fantastic I thought, but I'm glad other people are mentioning the cheap firefights at the end. I also noticed the lack of puzzles and stuff near the ending chapters too. Still, Uncharted 3 was great for me. Nice review, I adore Uncharted and appreciate some people speaking the truth. Oh and I say it every time I leave a comment here, but my favorite part of the review is seeing you in the beginning :)

Although I am a big fan of the uncharted series and I am surprised for this somewhat negative review, I still appreciate that Zeitgeist is an honest reviewer and will give his unbiased opinion no matter what.
I usually agree with you, but not today. Honestly, the game does not get worse after the first few levels. It gets much better in my opinion because the story is so well fleshed out. Very few games can have such great pacing and be lenghty at the same time.

Also, as amazing as the set pieces were, I noticed they kinda reused techniques from the previous games a little too much - especially if you compare the ending to that of the 2nd game. There's only so many times that you can be surprised by a pipe coming loose while you're dangling from it. Still a great game, but nowhere near as amazing as the first two.
I agree with you on some things you said, like bullet damage, pointless encounters and more puzzles, but it isn't a deal breaker, the story ties it all together i have never been as entertained playing a Uncharted game compared to any other game ever. I really enjoy playing the multiplayer as well.
It takes balls to point out any flaws in an Uncharted game these days. I like that you didn't pull any punches. I still want to play this game, but now I have a bit better idea of what I'm getting into.
NICE REVIEW! U2 was the 1st game that you played on your new PS3 & in your review, you said that mp was an afterthought. U2 mp had much success, thus maybe Naughty Dog spent more time creating the U3 mp, shifting the focus away from the story mode. I also feel that they had the pressure to deliver a game that marries video game with film mechanics, in seamless transition. U3 is up to par, but it is not amazing. Crushing difficulty is as fun as ever, but the main story falls short of greatness.

I've played a few Halo games, but I didn't see the resemblence in the final level. Can you explain? 3. The only complaint I have about combat is the armored people. In the previous game, they took a good clip to kill and were pretty balanced. Here, they take about 3 clips to kill (might just be that I suck) and are annoying and hell.

Hey Zeitgeist I know you're probably busy with Skyrim right about now but I was wondering if you were planning on reviewing LOTR: War in the North. It's an Action RPG that changes your character's appearance depending on the gear you're wearing which seems to be right up your alley.
I didnt mean it negative, but you sometimes talk about AAA-titles like they are quite bad.i still like your reviews tough. and you are probably the most unbiased reviewer on youtube. And im still a subscriber :D
Didn't expect this at all. Props for having the balls to go against the consensus though. It's always good to have a dissenting review just to get a different perspective. I felt the same way about the first Uncharted (massively overrated) but loved the second one. I'm curious to see where this one will end up.
yep, thats why i play it.. I love really feeling like part of the story and i love the cliche indiana jones style. i feel like the gun fights are a puzzle in themselves so the last half of the game didn't bother be that much. i play uncharted for its presentation, not for the game aspect of it.
I know an admin on a forum I frequent who would tear you limb from limb for saying that Uncharted is boring in any way, shape, or form. I can't say the same for myself, because I own a 360, but from about a two-minute demo I played of Uncharted 2 I wish I owned a PS3 as well.
This game...is AWESOME. I cant believe some of you are saying its boring. It is a MASTERPIECE! You can feel the work naughty put into it. And it had some AWESOME levels.

I think the biggest problem with this game is that there is a huge expectation coz this is a sequel to Uncharted 2. People will either want to love it, or just get massively dissapointed whereby a small annoyance ruins the whole game coz "its not as good as the last game" Screw comparisons and just take it as it is people.... You know what? I completely agree with you. That was the exact same feeling I had about the last half. Don't get me wrong, the trippy hallucinations in the Atlantis of the Sands levels are amazing and unique, but I seriously felt like I was playing a half-assed retread of Uncharted 2 and I was really, really disappointed in it. That, and the whole section of the game regarding water and ships is bullshit. My first, and subsequent thirty, deaths came from those sections.

Hmm I actually found the second half of the game more enjoyable, sure it was a lot lighter on puzzles and a bit lighter on platforming, but the setpieces and character interactions were thrilling and the second half was beyond engaging all the way through the end
I don't understand people who subscribe to review channels, then immediately dislike/rant whenever the review isn't to their exact specifications. What's the point of subscribing to a review channel if you're not going to consider it for what it is - a second opinion?
@sok213 Actually, the 360 and PS3 are both dated hardware. They are 5+ years old. In comparison to the hardware you can put in a modern PC, yes, they are both dated. So no, I'm not on the PS3 or Xbox team. I'm on the gamer team.
One of my favorite series is Uncharted, however I really didn't feel inspired by any of the levels. The combat environments were "meh" and I think the others did it much better, with the lay out of cover, distribution of enemies and so on. Im pretty bummed that there werent the huge guys with mini guns in this one. They didn't look the very real but presented much more of a threat. Give me back the incredibly fun and replayable combat of the second and the magic of the second.
Only thing I really disagree with you is multiplayer. I think it's the best online Multiplayer for Playstation 3 but hey that's just me. Overall good review!!! =D

I agree with most of this review. But I don't hold the story against it. It's a video game and not a movie, so yeah, the bad guys show up and you have to start a new level. Mario did the same with "The princess is in another castle." Uncharted 3 actually mocks itself when (SPOILER) Drake tells not to write the location of the city down, because he knows the bad guys will steal the information again. I thought that was refreshingly funny and honest of the writers.
I loved this game, but it just didn't feel as polished as the second game. I also honestly think that Naughty Dog needs to to think of a new set-up for the next Uncharted game, as finding a lost city has been the basis of all 3 games so far, with the first game being the only one to twist this idea around. How about an Uncharted game where Nate actually has a real, interesting motive to go out and do something huge? How about a game where Nate is a criminal? How about something completely new?
@ZeitgeistReview There a lot of problems while aiming in the single player part of the game Daniel, it isn't just you. People have been storming Naughty Dog to fix this and the lack of motion blur that was supposed to be in the game. For me, the bad controls drew me away from the game in every gun fight, the combat I also thought to be half assed, and the ship junkyard level was just filler. I loved both Uncharted 1 and 2 and while I liked this one it certainly is disappointing. Great review!

I agree completely. Fantastic first half, but then your dragged into a sequence of 'kill these dudes to get through' cut-scene 'kill more dudes to get through' etc... its very good, but games like Batman AC and deus ex are much better.
I wish Chloe was in this more and that new guy Charlie Cutter. They are both cool and i dont understand why they cut them off half way through the story

Actually... I agree. But I thought there was too much gunfights long before the second half, already in the castle level where almost the only thing you did was shooting bad guys.
Uncharted is clearly made to play like an action movie blockbuster. I never come for the multiplayer. I came for the story. Everyone won't like it. I still bought it. Opinions are just that.
Funny you said that about the melee combat, i just finnished batman: AC and after that i started on Uncharted 3. When i first got in to a brawl in this game my only thought was " WHY CAN'T THIS BE AS GOOD AS BATMAN"
Overall this is the best Uncharted. Uncharted 3 has a better bad guy (not just a generic eastern European warlord) and better plot. I think Zeitgeist is wrong, other than the last few chapters, the game was always varied. The game looks amazing obviously, and the difficulty is fair (apart from a fair few cheap deaths) Also the multiplayer is so much better. My only problems with the game are it takes too many bullets to kill people and sometimes the AI is stupid. Probably best game of 2011.
I loved playing through this, though not quite as much as Uncharted 2. I think you can put it into 2 perspectives. Uncharted 3 is superior from a technical standpoint, but inferior from an artistic direction standpoint. E.G. Shambala in Uncharted 2 was so so much more impressive than Atlantis of the Sands. The levels in Tibet, the war torn city etc. It felt much bigger than U3. I didnt really like how the cast characters just "bowed out" out random points in U3, I think that was just bad writing

Uncharted 3 suffers from the same problems as 1 and 2 did (less so with 2). That problem is that the 2nd half always focusses to much on gunfights. I think it may be the worse in Uncharted 3. Still a great game that should be owned by every PS3 owner.
i have been a pc plyer all my life but decided to get a ps3 and bough it with this game and i have to say its amazing and the multiplayer is awesoem too. i dont like the fact that u have to shoot a million times at somoene for him to die but its really fun
I agree with most of your points, and that most of the second half of the game "fell of a cliff". But you forget the best parts of the second half, the riding sequence (which reminds me of the 3rd indiana jones movie) and exploring the lost city, and its fitting (and a bit predictable) ending. This game entry also had the most memorable villans, a problem in the last two titles. But why do you think multiplayer isnt fun?? camping is near non existant (except london undergroun) and full of action

the whole game is great it's just towards the end the gunfights get intense and the story is wraped up prefectly.

If there WILL be an Uncharted 4 and a PS4, It will look AMAZING. as long as they spend enough time on it.

I don't think the ending of the game is killing some guys and the move on to the next fight and i still think this is the best one in the series.
Actually... I agree. But I thought there was too much gunfights long before the second half, already in the castle level where almost the only thing you did was shooting bad guys.
Uncharted is clearly made to play like an action movie blockbuster. I never come for the multiplayer. I came for the story. Everyone won't like it. I still bought it. Opinions are just that.

Funny you said that about the melee combat, i just finnished batman: AC and after that i started on Uncharted 3. When i first got in to a brawl in this game my only thought was " WHY CAN'T THIS BE AS GOOD AS BATMAN"

I just finished U3 and I agree how some of the gun fights are annoying but the last two uncharted games were also like that.
Overall this is the best Uncharted. Uncharted 3 has a better bad guy (not just a generic eastern European warlord) and better plot. I think Zeitgeist is wrong, other than the last few chapters, the game was always varied. The game looks amazing obviously, and the difficulty is fair (apart from a fair few cheap deaths) Also the multiplayer is so much better. My only problems with the game are it takes too many bullets to kill people and sometimes the AI is stupid. Probably best game of 2011.
I loved playing through this, though not quite as much as Uncharted 2. I think you can put it into 2 perspectives. Uncharted 3 is superior from a technical standpoint, but inferior from an artistic direction standpoint. E.G. Shambala in Uncharted 2 was so so much more impressive than Atlantis of the Sands. The levels in Tibet, the war torn city etc. It felt much bigger than U3. I didnt really like how the cast characters just "bowed out" out random points in U3, I think that was just bad writing
I agree with you about this game, its overhyped and it seems to have a legion of fanbois with no thoughts of their own to flock around and post comments saying how its the best shit since beer and pizza
Uncharted 3 suffers from the same problems as 1 and 2 did (less so with 2). That problem is that the 2nd half always focusses to much on gunfights. I think it may be the worse in Uncharted 3. Still a great game that should be owned by every PS3 owner.
i have been a pc plyer all my life but decided to get a ps3 and bough it with this game and i have to say its amazing and the multiplayer is awesoem too. i dont like the fact that u have to shoot a million times at somoene for him to die but its really fun
I agree with most of your points, and that most of the second half of the game "fell of a cliff". But you forget the best parts of the second half, the riding sequence (which reminds me of the 3rd indiana jones movie) and exploring the lost city, and its fitting (and a bit predictable) ending. This game entry also had the most memorable villans, a problem in the last two titles. But why do you think multiplayer isnt fun?? camping is near non existant (except london undergroun) and full of action
