I have an 08 with 240k, paid $12k for it…so don’t pay new car prices, these things if maintained will last 300k plus. Can’t agree with the “truck ride” comment. Anyone who has ever driven a truck with leaf springs in the rear might disagree. My Sequoia has coils all around and independent rear suspension making for very a comfortable ride. Newer models offered air ride in the back. Not sure about the noise either, my engine is super quiet. She’s a gentle beast and a whole world of mods out there. There is a reason this vehicle has been around since 2008 with this platform. No diesel either…with modern emissions, maintenance costs will far exceed gas mileage gained. Thanks for the video, nice work!
In general, this was a great review. You were very clear and easy to understand. As an owner of a 2008 Sequoia 5.7L - here are two counters on space and MPG. Space - the feature that it does have (and only a handful of other vehicles possess) is 3 LATCH seats across that 2nd row (3 kids under 2) and keep the 3rd row folded down to fit 2 strollers, a pack N play, and 3 sets of chairs so they can be fed (that's just a day visit to grandparents). The Honda Odyssey can fit 3 across, but doesn't have the 4WD for go up/down the mountain we live on. The GM SUVs can't do the 3 across (only 2 LATCH connections, the second that impairs the use of a 3rd seat belt) - this has since been changed for 2015. MPG - Depends a lot on how you drive. My wife is easy on the gas and always gets 14-15mpg in NJ traffic. I get 12mpg on the same route. One plus for the big engine - even when fully loaded with family and all their needed accessories plus a full Thule rooftop carrier, we still managed 17 mpg on a 5hr highway drive. I don't think any minivan would maintain it's EPA highway mileage. Thanks again for a great review.
What you save on gas with Yukon, Expedition and other comparable vehicles you'll need to hold onto for the numerous visits you'll be making to your favorite mechanic while you put his kids through college. Meanwhile the Sequoia will still be out on the road with just normal maintainence.
No matter what i love Sequoia forever....i owned first gen of Sequoia for 13 yrs but my regret only is only 4x2 SR, and now i owned Nightshade Edition 2021 limited Toyota Sequoia so much more love...This is for me.❤️
How can anyone compare a Cadillac to a Toyota? Cadillacs are garbage, always have been and always will be. Don't mean to sound like a commercial, but what they say about a lot of Toyotas from many years ago are still on the road today is true. You hardly ever see old Cadillacs still on the road today, I guess seeing is believing.
There's 3 reasons people buy Toyota 1. Reliability. 2. Resale value and 3. Durability. Also Toyotas are usually fuel efficient but as the name says this is a Sequoia which means Giant.
12:45 Best feature ever. 1. Big dogs never have to bother the passenger area. The Sequoia and the 4Runner are the only SUVs that I know of that have that feature. 2. People sitting in the third row will appreciate the roll down window 3. Smoking
I have a 2008 Limited and I'd like to comment why it's the right vehicle for me. You're 100% correct that it's kind of a special case as far as room. Sometimes I have to move a lot of people, sometimes a lot of stuff, sometimes a combination of the two. Being able to switch between cargo and people freely and in a very customizable way is very useful to me. With the two rear rows down, I can put a 4x8 sheet of plywood flat on the "deck", which is hard to do with most modern short bed pickups. With the passenger side seats down, I can fit a 10 foot long piece of lumber easily, or a 12 foot long piece with some angling. No hanging stuff out the rear window or out of the bed anymore. The towing capacity lets me easily tow rented trailers for extra large or extra dirty loads that aren't good to keep inside the cabin. I can run to the hardware store and get lumber, then put the seats up and take my whole family somewhere, then put the seats down and put 20 bushels of apples in the cabin to deliver to a bakery, then put the seats up for the kids' carpool, then hook up a trailer and take three tons of scrap metal to the recycler. I can do this in all weather and road conditions with 4x4 and Toyota's awesome stability systems, the comfort of the luxury Limited trim, and the peace of mind that comes from being in a huge vehicle with side curtain airbags that run down the length of the whole cabin. It's not a vehicle that specializes in one job perfectly, but a generalist vehicle that gets a huge variety of tasks done very, very well. Given the legendary Toyota reliability I expect she'll keep on working hard for many more decades so long as I keep up on the maintenance. No such thing as a free lunch, however, and the gas mileage is indeed terrible. I can confirm 11MPG with "average driving" is about right. I would also very much like to see these offered with a turbo diesel engine. In 2018 the Sequoia line is stale and outdated and needs a reboot, I very much hope to see an efficient and torquey 6 cylinder diesel on offer.
I have a Sequoia and just love the vehicle. Cleveland to Waco in just 1 day with the entire family + one Cat. its a Wonderful SUV and beats out my Escalade for road stability on long driving trips. 16 MPG on the highway.
Yeah, for a family man... you could get the SR5 trim level, and shop for a used one with some miles on it. That would put it in a vastly different price range.
Great review like the intro about being an average guy... subbed! Bought my 2010 Prius, 2015 Siena as my commuter great fuel economy put 160k on the Prius had zero problems. Yesterday traded my 2012 GMC Yukon XL for a 2016 Sequoia. Loved the GMC, but I just have more confidence in the Toyota reliability and the wife hated driving the GMC XL due to its size. Not going to lie it was tough to hand over my Yukon, but I bought the Sequoia for long distance trips with my family so I chose the Toyota reliability.
I have one of these. I tow a 6000# 26' travel trailer with it. Needless to say, it is perfect for that. I trust Toyota quality & reliability, and Toyota resale- that's why I bought it. I find it to be quiet with good handling and a pleasure to drive. You can buy the SR5 model of this truck/SUV, brand new in the low 40s...and give up very little in terms of features. Very good review.
Nice review - thanks. I agree with pretty much everything you say. I sold my 2010 Sequoia SR5 due to the fuel economy. Didn't need to tow, just got used as a (very expensive) family run-around. Switched to a 2011 Sienna Limited and love it!
Went from 04 le brand new to 13 xle brand new, to 08 le Siennas to 12 sequoia to 16 sienna le. Stupidest thing i ever did was get rid of the sequoia! Unless gas prices are $4 gal I'm getting another 1 lol Edit: update 2022 2019 went back to a 12 sequoia limited. ❤️
My mom has a 2013 Toyota Sequoia and it is pretty amazing. Yes, interior quality could be a bit better but hey, it's a Toyota truck. Meant to be "trashed" a bit and be able to clean everything up. I've driven it and we've averaged less that 12 mpg which is HORRIBLE. I wish they'd offer more diesels in the states. I'd totally buy one. This truck is also huge so parking it can be near impossible sometimes, even with the backup camera option that we have as well as parking sensors.
Unfortunately I don't have any experience with one, in fact I've never been in a Titan either. It does seem like the Armada hasn't been updated recently and is likely getting a bit long in the tooth. Given that Ford's Expedition hasn't been changed much either...if you're looking for something new, the soon to be released GMC/Chevy Yukon/Tahoe twins might be best option. thanks for watching! -Greg
I want that "rip snorting" engine Greg. :) Thanks for the review! I love how you added the bike crash clip too. ha! Sorry about that arm.... So my take-away from your review is that you want me to buy a mini-van. NEVER!!!!!
Best review I’ve watched in a loooong time. Great perspectives and awesome vocabulary. I like the Sequoia-a lot....but do I WANT it??? Hmmmmm 2018 Honda Pilot 2016 Mercedes GLS 2016 Toyota Sequoia Limited (or Limitless) Decisions decisions. (I May just take the bus...lol)
Sam Jacobs which is sometimes hard not to do lol. Love mine. Traded a Mercedes-Benz GL350 bluetec diesel for one, and while there is a definite difference in build quality like how the substantial and solid the doors on the benz is, there is no denying this thing will give us years and years of reliable driving long after it is paid off and the warranty expires, something thatbis less likely with American vehicles, especially as the years go by. The turning radius is incredibke for such a large vehicle, and being so big it really doesnt feel that big when driving it. Overall I love it. The oeace of mind alone is worth it. Resale value is crazy good too. Is it die for a redesign? Yeah, but i like it because it isnt overloaded with all kinds of unnecessary technology whicu is more that can go wrong. Its a more simple, honest reliable vehicle. Does the gas mileage suck? Yeah, but if if that were my concern id have gotten another gl350. That 10.5 inch rear end and 4.30 gears does kill fuel economy, but it will tow better than just about any other full size SUV.
you probably one of the best car reviewer here on youtube. pretty much cover all of the vehicle. keep up the good job. when or are you goin to review the tacoma?
Oh, BTW- My 5.7 4WD Sequoia routinely gets MPG in the high teens- even over 20 mpg -on the flat freeway at 65. Better than the V8 4Runner that I traded in. Of course, that's not when I'm towing my 6000# travel trailer. Then, its more like 10 MPG. But that's pretty much what everyone gets when towing big.
Even though you don't have enough space for 8 people and all their space, it is nice to be able to cary 8 people OR a crap load of stuff or and mix of the 2. Yes a minivan is cheaper, but it can't tow much, and a truck can tow and carry but i couldn't take 8 people when to lunch from work once or twice a week like I do. That is why I love my Expedition, it isn't the best at anything but it gives so many options... I still don't understand why the sequoia gets such awful gas milage though, my expedition has the 5.4 and is 4X4 and I get almost 16MPG driving like a crazy person....
GDLutz From my experience brand new cars like this one (under 1000 miles) get crappy gas mileage. I know when I got my F-150 with the 5.0 brand new I was averaging 15.5 MPG hwy. Now I am getting 21-22.
Why complain about the space on the second seat, when you can slide it forward or backwards to suit u..secondly you should have told us the real gas mileage of the Yukon when u were making comparison.
I don't get the bad gas mileage reviews of these big SUVs, it's the same as driving their pickup siblings, and most people who buy pickup trucks, don't have much a use of the bed either other than hauling toys and trailers (once in a while). Most of them are driven as daily commuters but when it comes to the pickup trucks, gas mileage is all fine but if you put an SUV body on the same truck chassis, suddenly the gas consumption becomes an issue. these huge pickup trucks and SUVs are truly an American miracle of innovation by enabling the railway locomotives to be road worthy by deleting the diesel motors and putting tires. I would like to have not one but two of any of these truck chassis, one in pickup and the 2nd in SUV version. They should give away a Prius or some TDi for free when you buy a pair of trucks.......
I think if you bought a couple of loaded Sequoia's your dealership might be inclined to do so! I complained about the mileage, b/c its even lower than other truck/SUVs on the market. And yes, the mileage sucks on these, and I complain about the mileage on trucks too. Until the small diesel in the 1/2 truck/SUV market becomes the norm, I'll probably keep complaining! thanks for watching and chiming in. -Greg
Great video but i think you miss the market toyota is trying to reach with this vehicle. This is an off road vehicle simple as that. To say this is in the same class as Yukon or a Tahoe or a Durango or an F-150 is ludracis because none of those trucks can go up a mountain. these transmissions are meant to tow and climb where a tahoe engine is made to cruise around town. Toyota produced a great car isn't really worried if they don't sell the Sequoia in the states, the market that is buying these like hotcakes is places like the United Emerites that has sand dunes all around. I think this video would have done this truck justice in an off road setting.
$60k would be way out of my price range. While I find it quite attractive, it's more SUV than anyone in their right mind should need, unless you have people who are gargantuan in size. I'm a big guy, but I'm not *that* big. And being more of a pickup truck kind of guy, I'd be just as happy with a Toyota Tundra.
+Jason Carpp No offence but a tundra is basically the same vehicle. It always strikes me that there are all these full size pickups all over guzzling just as much gas but convert one to a huge kid mover and all of the sudden it is over the top.
+biodot88 I agree. I know about the similarities between the Sequoia and the Tundra. Just like the 4Runner and the Tacoma. I've driven both. I've never driven either the Tundra or the Sequoia.
So crazy that I bought a 2014 Sequoia limited (From Amigo Toyota) exactly the same as the one in this video color and all but with the entertainment system with 159k miles for 11k last year.
2 minutes in and I like your review already. All other ones I've found sound like they are reading out loud in a class room lol I've been looking at a 14-15 Yukon on Tahoe so this will be the first time looking at a Sequoia. Anyone that's own both care to share their 2 cents?
This is the first review I've seen from you and I'm really impressed! More entertaining then most of the popular guys like saabkyle04! Already subbed and liked! Good job and keep Goin! :D
I too am confused by the Sequoia. It seems like they are trying to compete with the other luxury SUVs on the market, but I would say the quality (and refinement) just aren't there to be on the same level as those in the class. I've been trying to think of a compelling reason to pick the Toyota over the others in the class and can't think of one. Hope that arm heals quickly!
hopefully I'll be getting that in too. I know others are wanting to see the 2014 Tundra as well. I rotate through the local dealerships to try and give equal exposure so the new Corolla will be coming...just not right away! thanks for watching! -Greg
Seven years down the road form this review. Do a web search for used Sequoias and take a look at the pricing for a 2013 model with low miles (if you can find one). These are meant for long term ownership and towing capacity. You’ll pay $20-30,000 for a 2013 with under 100k miles. I have a 2004 Chevy Express conversion and it has the most comfortable ride of any vehicle I’ve ever had, but it’s a cargo van underneath, so I wonder what a “truck like” ride means.
hey ,Greg. ,like your reviews so much ..so "normal people" so fair .not same as those magazines or others..would you be able to do a review on subaru cars ? outback maybe ? I m in the market for a subaru since I m up here Canada so much snow in winter.
Josh Mccarter I drove one a couple of years ago and did not do a video on it. I'll probably get into one again sometime this year. thanks for watching. -Greg
Bought a 2017 this week. Gas no big deal. Only 60.00 per month more than my odyssey at 15k miles per year. One option trade a month to make up the difference. And only 40.00 more than the expedition 2019.
thanks for watching already. I didn't get to mention Land Cruiser, but I did mention Lexus. There is definitely a bit of confusion in Toyota's large SUV lineup in my opinion! -Greg
11 MPG DAMN... I get 15.9MPG driving mixed city highway in a 2006 Ford Expedition 4X4 with the 5.4L. And I don't drive gas friendly, i like to drive with my foot in it, lol. Often i wish i would drive a little more gas friendly, but that is no fun.
Note that Nissan is rumored to be putting a Cummins Turbo Diesel in the next Titan. If that flows to a new Armada, that would be a good thing. Not a SMALL diesel like you'd asked for, but.... www.autoblog.com/2013/08/20/nissan-titan-turbo-diesel-v8-cummins/
and here in eco California. Thousands of these are sold for single occupant vehicles. Stuck in traffic. If you have a specific need, yes buy one or similar. Otherwise they are a middle finger to the climate. like ur reviews tho...
I don't know why diesel engines aren't available for vehicles like this either. Really! Diesels aren't for everyone. You do have to pay more for a diesel engine, you do pay more to "gas up", but I think the benefits would outweigh the shortcomings. For one thing, you'd get better fuel economy, probably around 25 mpgs on the highway. You could tow a 25-30 ft travel trailer (caravan) without the engine breaking a sweat. It just seems unforgivable that neither the Sequoia, nor the Tundra, were ever made available with diesel engines, even as optional extras.
Jason Carpp yes, and when I was traveling across the country this summer, in lots of places diesel was equal to or less than gasoline. Also, I would have an awesome range with diesel and a large tank! thanks for chiming in! -Greg
In some places, diesel is *less* expensive than gasoline; in other places, diesel is *more* expensive. I guess it has to do with location. I don't know. I remember when diesel cost less than gasoline.
thought it was gonna suck due to the low views, but i was wrong, haha~ such a good review that you sir deserve more views and likes, haha~ have a good day, and more vids~ :D
thanks, I appreciate it! I've been on a little hiatious, in the middle of a DIY home remodel before my 3rd child arrives. Really need to get back behind the wheel and camera, but I'm so time limited! thanks again, -Greg
Hopefully with Dodge and Mazda bringing in the diesel engines, the others will finally follow. Makes no sense since all the auto manufacturers have diesel offerings all over the world except in the U.S.
hunter dylan I drove the Yukons a few months back. Jump over to my channel, or use this link. ruclips.net/video/4qEW4RrLZ8s/видео.html thanks for watching! -Greg
better space behind the 3rd row for sure…and similar fuel economy (actually better) and similar pricing. Its you've got to have something this big, the Sequoia has its place, but I do think the Suburban is stronger in the areas that people need these for. Thanks for checking it out. -Greg

GDLutz my points exactly, thanks for chiming in.
-Greg
GDLutz From my experience brand new cars like this one (under 1000 miles) get crappy gas mileage. I know when I got my F-150 with the 5.0 brand new I was averaging 15.5 MPG hwy. Now I am getting 21-22.
Well done Greg! I like your presentation! Thankfully there are 4 runners, highlanders and more options for people if they can't afford the Sequoia!
Back seats moved forward to where you suggested would kill the size needed for baby car seats. Especially for someone above 6'. In the front
xterra4hire baby car seats (rear facing/infant) are huge space hogs, completely agree.
thanks for chiming in.
-Greg
Why complain about the space on the second seat, when you can slide it forward or backwards to suit u..secondly you should have told us the real gas mileage of the Yukon when u were making comparison.
Excellent job again Greg!
This dude is a savage. First time watching a video of his. Keep it up bro 🤙
-Greg
I agree entirely. I'm hoping to review the new diesel in the Ram as soon as my local dealer gets one!
thanks for stopping by!
I think this video would have done this truck justice in an
off road setting.
I love my Toyota Sequoia Platinum 2012..........Great video.
lucycare thanks for watching and sharing!
-Greg
Nice review, not as detailed as saabkyle04 but more refreshing and not scripted like his are..
No, you're awesome for making these videos haha.
I quite prefer the first generation Sequoia. I feel its a better overall vehicle for it's purpose..
I think that the sequoia is for people that actually have stuff to tow but dont want to look like drug dealers
Tow stuff and pay top dollar to do so... Remember he was getting 11mpg towing nothing but this hunk of corporate crap.
The cargo space is maddening, but I’m getting one anyway. Toyota quality and reliability vs competition is too strong to ignore.
instead of the sequoia limited, can you do the sequoia platinum now
Great review Greg. And with only one arm!!
I sure do. (If you mean bicycles...) I mostly ride MTB.
-Greg
NICE REVIEW !!! LIKE A PROFESIONAL
Jason Carpp thanks for chiming in!
-Greg
Gallup Journey Test Drives You're welcome. :)
What about a big guy w a big family? Lol
You said "Drives like a truck". Did that one have the ride control? If so, was it in "Sport", "Comfort", or in between?
He had the limited for his tester. Only the platinum has those settings, and it rides like a luxury car.
Excellent review
So crazy that I bought a 2014 Sequoia limited (From Amigo Toyota) exactly the same as the one in this video color and all but with the entertainment system with 159k miles for 11k last year.
heck of a deal!!
I love the part that you say you and many people can't afford it. Haha, very honest and I like it! :D Very unique reviews!
Alex J Christensen Its true! Thanks for watching.
-Greg
I drove the Sequoia and the Landcruiser. Surprisingly, I enjoyed Sequoia more hands down.
love the review!... want to see more on 2014 cars!...thanks!...
thanks for watching. I'm driving the new Corolla now!
-Greg
love to see that!...
2 minutes in and I like your review already. All other ones I've found sound like they are reading out loud in a class room lol I've been looking at a 14-15 Yukon on Tahoe so this will be the first time looking at a Sequoia. Anyone that's own both care to share their 2 cents?
I like your reviews and the way you explain but I cant find a lad cruiser gxr's review.please upload this one.
Rehaan Hussain Jageer Hussain I'd love to, but I don't really have access to a Land Cruiser here.
Thanks for the support!
-Greg
hey, well done. I respect what you do because you do it well this is a great review, hope you move on to better things
Seeing them for 23k at 150k miles. Is that a good buy?
you bet!
good points.
-Greg
Great review and awesome editing.
+cpthemonstergamer wow, thanks for noticing!
-Greg
hopefully I'll be getting that in too. I know others are wanting to see the 2014 Tundra as well. I rotate through the local dealerships to try and give equal exposure so the new Corolla will be coming...just not right away!
thanks for watching!
-Greg
thanks! I appreciate it.
What's the name of the music played at the begining?
Tell me what 3 row SUV back window rolls down? THE ONLY ANSWER IS SEQUOIA
hey ,Greg. ,like your reviews so much ..so "normal people" so fair .not same as those magazines or others..would you be able to do a review on subaru cars ? outback maybe ? I m in the market for a subaru since I m up here Canada so much snow in winter.
That 5.7l pulls hard has lots of power more than enough for a regular family
Thanks for the review!
Could you please test a seienna limited ?
Josh Mccarter I drove one a couple of years ago and did not do a video on it. I'll probably get into one again sometime this year.
thanks for watching.
-Greg
Bought a 2017 this week. Gas no big deal. Only 60.00 per month more than my odyssey at 15k miles per year. One option trade a month to make up the difference. And only 40.00 more than the expedition 2019.
thanks for watching already.
I didn't get to mention Land Cruiser, but I did mention Lexus. There is definitely a bit of confusion in Toyota's large SUV lineup in my opinion!
-Greg
Are you going to change the form of the Toyota Sequoia entire 2015 or 2016? Necessary to answer please :))
Great video!
thanks for watching!
-Greg
Luv it man...Awesome review, and wish U'd be up soon ma friend....
Mohamad Omar ALBosaty working on it! Thanks!
GDLutz thanks for sharing!
-Greg
Note that Nissan is rumored to be putting a Cummins Turbo Diesel in the next Titan. If that flows to a new Armada, that would be a good thing. Not a SMALL diesel like you'd asked for, but.... www.autoblog.com/2013/08/20/nissan-titan-turbo-diesel-v8-cummins/
for sure!
-Greg
385hp with TRD exhaust no?
0:25 Oh yeah?
*looks at all of his videos*
I got a used lx570 love it 7k lb tow
I do think that they could make an extended-length version Sequoia, like they do on the Suburban.
that would be awesome. We've have a Yukon XL, and it makes a big difference.
-Greg
I don't know what truck with 3 rows that has a ton of cargo with all the seats up
yukon xl/suburban
Terrible review. Biased as heck.
Gotcha. Thanks for an awesome review man, subscribed!
Wisriverblue's Channel ha!
Thanks for watching and the sub!
Greg
WRB I
Im subscribing, because his reviews are so perverted! 😃
its awesome... the toyota sequaia is good ... the presenting is awesome... coooool... see ya
+Chamari De silva wow, thanks!
-Greg
and here in eco California. Thousands of these are sold for single occupant vehicles. Stuck in traffic.
If you have a specific need, yes buy one or similar. Otherwise they are a middle finger to the climate.
like ur reviews tho...
PacificBlue51 libtard! Stay in commiefornia!!
The third row has more leg room that the Tahoe/Yukon. The seat is higher off the floor
I remember when diesel cost less than gasoline.
thought it was gonna suck due to the low views, but i was wrong, haha~
such a good review that you sir deserve more views and likes, haha~
have a good day, and more vids~ :D
thanks, I appreciate it!
I've been on a little hiatious, in the middle of a DIY home remodel before my 3rd child arrives. Really need to get back behind the wheel and camera, but I'm so time limited!
thanks again,
-Greg
Whats the song in the background?
I love my sequoia 2020
Great video... Thanks
Johnny Nguyen thanks for watching!
-Greg
Hopefully with Dodge and Mazda bringing in the diesel engines, the others will finally follow. Makes no sense since all the auto manufacturers have diesel offerings all over the world except in the U.S.
can you do a Tahoe or a Yukon or Yukon XL?
hunter dylan I drove the Yukons a few months back. Jump over to my channel, or use this link.
ruclips.net/video/4qEW4RrLZ8s/видео.html
thanks for watching!
-Greg
hvae u every drove a 2007-2014 yukon
have
hunter dylan yes, I've driven that generation too, I did not do a video on it though.
-Greg
okay
i have this car very very nice steering control
What about the Chevrolet Saburban?
better space behind the 3rd row for sure…and similar fuel economy (actually better) and similar pricing. Its you've got to have something this big, the Sequoia has its place, but I do think the Suburban is stronger in the areas that people need these for.
Thanks for checking it out.
-Greg
