  • Cannot stress enough the beauty of pressure testing over traditional wet testing. In this video, I compare my 4-year-old Dr. Drop to a new and shiny EK Leak tester plus few hucks and tips.

    Thanks for taking the time to review the leak testers including the pros/cons of each product. I appreciate your "hacks" as well... left my wondering "why didn't I think of that?!" but sharing these tips is very helpful to me.

    Good review. Despite the few issues with the EKWB, I prefer the metal fitting threads on the EKWB over the plastic threads: plastic is too fragile for a fitting. I'll get some air compressor fitting to rig things a bit better with the EKWB I have on order.

    Great video Daz! On to your complaints with both. If you go to your local Swagelok dealer with both kits they will hook you up with what you need to make the setup how you want it. The G1/4 fittings are BSPP of I remember correctly, but the parts person will know or can look it up if you tell them. You should only need a few bushings and or crossover fittings. If i had both I'd go to my local dealer and get part numbers for you but I've got neither kit.

      @@DazModeWatercooling Yes i remember there wasnt many channels on this topic so I stumbled upon your videos and completed my very first watercoling loop in early 2010. And I did my leak testing the old fashion way like in your old videos lol but now I am redoing my loop with hardline tubing and EK dry teak tester and that has brought me back to your video again :)

    Great review Daz! I had a catastrophic failure on a loop last year and now wont fill a loop till I've tested with my EKW Tester. Although I have had some issues with the pump and going to get a mini bike pump as they use the same fittings. A word of caution though to anyone using the EKW tester. If you have acrylic distro blocks DO NOT go into the green! The pressures are way to high and you stand a good chance of cracking the acrylic its self. I speak from experience lol. At the end of the white on the EKW tester the pressure is around 7psi I believe and that should be enough to show any leaks. When I use mine I take it to close to the end of the white, close the valve and take a pic of the gauge on my phone and then leave it till the next morning. If the needle doesn't move you should be good to go ;)

      @Southeastern777 yes it definitely is! and pressurizing it upwards of 14 Pounds Per Square Inch that EKW says is safe is just asking for trouble and it doesn't sound like much but to some distros that have only 1mm or 2mm thick of acrylic in some places, it is a great deal of pressure... That's why I go no more than roughly 7psi or so and considering the Dr. Drop maxes out at I believe 8.6psi which is lots to see if you have a leak.

    I am baffled that almost noone seems to use these testers. I'd expect any big RUclips channel to have one in their toolkit and show it in their guides.
    I bought all of my watercooling components used and saved a lot of money while still getting high end parts. I *still* bought a leak tester even though it cost me as much as my CPU block.
    I don't regret a single cent I spent on it. Just the fact that I can check any waterblock after swapping the hold down plate and every used radiator the moment I receive it in the mail easily makes it worth twice as much as it costs. It completely cuts out the guess work before you even start building the loop.
    I love that Bitspower quick disconnect hack. I don't use my EK leak tester that often so I might not need it, but I'll probably get one in the future because my god did that attaching process look a lot simpler than the male to male rotary EK includes in the kit.

    • @phenomanII
      @phenomanII 4 года назад

      Also I prefer the EK version because of the valve and the construction quality. If I lose the pump or if I get annoyed with it I can just attach any bicycle pump I have at home without being afraid of striping the threads on that part of the tester.

    I cleaned an EK Velocity block out, had a bunch of gunk in it. Didn't tighten the screws enough and I completely bathed my 2080ti and x570 taichi in distilled water, probably 400 ml. Maybe next time I buy a leak tester!

      @@MrKZdemos saying they have more problems than other manufacturers is true due to them selling more stuff than other manufacturers, who knows what the actual defect rate is on blocks, maybe Daz has data like he did with pumps.

    You couldn't have said it better , wet testing is dumb unless you don't care about running water over your gear. I made my own tester out of hardware store parts and a push bike pump. I had issues with air leaking back as well since the ball valves I used were cheap crappy ones but I got the job done. I ended up using a short length of flex tube to attach to the system. I'd be interested to see what EK is charging for the unit as my D.I.Y unit was fairly cheap.
