      And not just. The smaller cars, quicker handling due to Traction Control, overtakes without DRS, refueling and higer rev limit made these cars fantastic. It was not perfect like some believe because the grooved tyres and bodywork made overtaking tougher, but unlike today's races there were multiple retirements due to engine bursts and accidents, beautiful overtakes and all-around strategies - something today's cars and races still direly lack.

      @@MashiatCOD99 when his car actually worked without failing to either the engine or hydraulic issues his pace was much above most of the grid. take monaco 2005 for example where he out qualified alonso by half a second, probably one of his most iconic laps, and then proceeded to make a 35 second gap to him in the race. imola too, he was pulling away massively until his car failed him but i’m sure he would have continued to pull away from alonso if his hydraulics didn’t fail. mclaren had a stronger although more delicate engine that season with an arguably better aero package too. however i am not doubting alonso’s pace either, he was in an inferior car in terms of pace compared to the mclaren’s although his reliability was much stronger but he still took many poles and wins that season too and well, the championship also 🏆

    A superb race, as James Allen (whom I miss as a commentator greatly) says, 'formula one at its absolute best!' Just one of those races that had so much overtaking compared to other years there (a bit like Valencia 2012). I still find it bizarre how Alonso ended up so far behind Schumacher and Raikkonen after his 1st stop. I suppose he was a lot heavier with fuel, got held up by slower cars and was not allowed to change to fresh tyres. Either way his skill was also brilliant and he still shines all these years later.

    • @RacingAtHome
      @RacingAtHome 7 месяцев назад

      I'd actually say China 2011 more than Valencia 2012. Both Suzuka 2005 and China 2011 showed the best of that era. With Suzuka 2005, you saw how it was a fight with the main changes taking place at the end of fuel stints and fuel strategies culminating in one of the great moves by Raikkonen. With China 2011, you had an overtaking fest with the excitement of two versus three stops with the three coming out on top in the end from a great move by Hamilton.

    Kimi still had to lift off behind Fisi around 130R. And when he overtook Fisi around the 1st corner, it was brakes and throttle at the same time. Wish F1 would regularly show throttle and brake position now.
