I have been making myself the same question for a very long time now. And that also makes me think of the times were people where executed for being different (for example: being gay, or people who didn't support what the Bible said). And that in some parts of the world that still happens. There's a musical called Twisted, and in one of the songs some Disney villains tell their real stories, and how the heros of the stories have told lies about them being wicked.

To be fair Nessa was an accident that they took advantage of... But the fact that Glinda gave Dorothy Nessa's shoes to get back at Elphi for stealing her boyfriend was kinda a dick move. She wanted her to feel the pain that she felt but she never meant for phiero to become the scarecrow or for her best friend to die...
@@BlazeDupree1525 Nessa was not an accident, but Glinda believed that it was. Although I think at this point chronologically she realized it was intentional
Probably because she doesn’t feel guilty for what happened to Nessa in the same way that she does for Elphaba. Nessarose died in an (supposed) accident that no one saw coming and no one could have stopped, which was a far cry from Elphaba’s situation, where Glinda actively turned away from her for a prolonged period of time, allowing all of Oz to believe she was a monster.
Aragorn7027 well the thing is, she thought Elphaba had died, and that she wasn't there for her so she may be singing about that, but also putting up a front for the public
This is the song that in my opinion will make or break Ariana grande as Glinda in the movie. This song is our first introduction to Glinda and most Glindas are happy smiling robots during this song. Come on Glinda your best friend ‘died’ let your mask down a little bit. Show some cracks. But just enough. Then compose yourself
I have a question, because I haven't seen the musical and am going to see it soon. The witch that died is Elphaba. And Glinda is her friend, who attended this celebration of her death. So, is this song set in the future, and the musical is of her past before she's killed?
So, I saw this when I was in 6th grade which is just about 11 years ago now. I didn't understand at the time that one of her parents cheated, so now asking... Which parent cheated?? I can't tell from the voices.
Can someone plz answer and explain this to me: is the lover cheating with Elphabas mother and Elphabas father and was the lover Elphabas real father... thank u so much I'm so confused😂😂
Chris Collins I just want to clarify, Elphaba is the wicked green witch, Glinda is the good witch, in the sparkly crown with the big poof dress. Elphaba's mother is married to a man (we'll call him Elphaba's Father, even though he isn't biologically.) Elphaba's mother sleeps with someone else (we'll call him Lover) and the man who raises Elphaba (Elphaba's Father) is unaware that the child (Elphaba) isn't his. In this song Glinda sings about Elphaba's death and about how no one will mourn Elphaba. There is a flashback in a song to Elphaba's birth, and the man who they think is her father's rejection of his child.
Probably one of the most boring "songs" from one of the worst musicals I have seen.ive seen things from legally blonde,Adam's family,Charlie chocolate factory,Billy elliot, starlight express original and re release,Oliver and much more and was never bothered to see wicked but went because someone sang defying gravity on tv so bought tickets and was so genuinely bored I fell asleep.most musicals I see I end up going more than once or buying the CD afterwards but basically wicked is an hour build up to defying gravity then an hour of nonsense in second half.the principle of the story is good but other than defying gravity theres no sing along songs no songs that could be released as singles,no songs I'd even listen to by choice.if I was bored first time not knowing what was coming the it would only be worse a second time.yet some musicals are so good I am waiting if certain bits and not only not bored but get excited for certain bits. I love that in this song, the verse the citizens of Oz sings after Glinda ("Goodness knows the wicked's lives are lonely...") would be almost an echo except that they have a completely different way of thinking about it. Glinda is mourning Elphaba's life the whole way through this song, trying to encourage just a bit of pity for her, while the Ozians sing it as a celebration of 'good conquers evil' and sort of revel in the whole warning of it. For them, it's like us telling our children about Jack slaying the evil Giant who ate humans, and everybody celebrating. No one thinks about the fact that the Giant was, well, brutally murdered. Or that he probably saw eating humans the same way we see eating meat. Or that he had territory to protect from invaders and thieves trying to steal his gold. Why is Jack the good guy again?
Nazish Talati I never liked Jack but in "Into the Woods" movie he is played by Daniel Huttlestone who is super cute...so in Into the Woods I have to like him...

I mourned the Wicked and the Wickeds sister the most. Nessarose was obviously the best character. It's not her fault she was born paralyzed and that Boq lied to her about loving her and how her parents died and how her sister abandoned her and how Morrible lured in Elphaba by killing her underneath Dorothy's house and how no one ever knew the true story about her. She didn't deserve to die she was my favorite character and Glinda was horrible for lieing about being friends with her and taking Nessas shoes away which were the last thing left of her.
Boq didn’t really lie to her, he just didn’t know how to tell her the truth about asking her to the dance just to impress Glinda without hurting her feelings, especially since she was disabled, and it just got out of hand because he thought she needed him until she could literally stand on her own two feet.
For me It looks like when Glinda says "Fellow Ozians" her voice breaks a little, like, she is sad and wants to mourn what happened, but she has to pretend not to so she quickly "recovers" and on "Let us be glad/ Let us be grateful" she pretends to be happy
Y'know "so take another drink of green elixir, and we'll have ourselves a little mixer" Sounds a bit like Remus Sanders, but if he wasn't as *"TURN INTO A GHOST! TURN INTO THE HULK"* maybe just not a huge trash man

She didn't deserve to die she was my favorite character and Glinda was horrible for lieing about being friends with her and taking Nessas shoes away which were the last thing left of her.
Kat Wallace *lying
I really love that about this musical - everyone has a good side and a bad side, and in the end they're just - very human. Even if they're not human.
Boq didn’t really lie to her, he just didn’t know how to tell her the truth about asking her to the dance just to impress Glinda without hurting her feelings, especially since she was disabled, and it just got out of hand because he thought she needed him until she could literally stand on her own two feet.
No she took of the munchkins
@@EditorOfSL if Boq didn't give her the whole truth then he was lying by omission
Letucce be glad
Letucce be greatful
Or... 'No one mourns the Wicked,' 'HOT DOGS'
My name is lettuce lol. I draw elphaba in my channel
Lettuce be seventeen
Ok butGlinda's vocalizing is so amazing like the reach and lung capacity you have to have for that holy crap-
For me It looks like when Glinda says "Fellow Ozians" her voice breaks a little, like, she is sad and wants to mourn what happened, but she has to pretend not to so she quickly "recovers" and on "Let us be glad/ Let us be grateful" she pretends to be happy
This baby green Y E E T
I'm just listening for the first time the guy sings "No one mourns the wicked." Best part of the song.
I love how sinister the opening to this song sounds. One of the best openings to a musical ever. It’s just so powerful!
Goodness know I mourned the Wicked
We all mourn the Wicked! In loving memory of Elphaba!
pray for the wicked 👏
Kacie Q ON THE WEEKEND
OHOHOHOH OH ITS SATURDAY NIGHT
Yes
Y'know "so take another drink of green elixir, and we'll have ourselves a little mixer"
Sounds a bit like Remus Sanders, but if he wasn't as *"TURN INTO A GHOST! TURN INTO THE HULK"*
maybe just not a huge trash man
Oh my gosh XD
Every time they sing 'the wicked workings of you-know-who' I have so many Harry Potter flashbacks.
never read it, never saw the films
can recognise little-england derivative shite from a mile off
The way I sing this is by going one or two scale (octaves?) down. I sing :clears throat: loooow. (I sung that super low)
“Froggy, ferny, cabbage”
The baby is unnaturally...
GREEEEEEEEEEEN!!!!

This is what I remember from the car rides when I was little. My mom would always play it and we’d all sing along. I feel the nostalgia.
"The wicked workings of You-Know-Who"
Me: *harry potter intensified*

So the whole musical starts with "As Long as You're Mine" followed by "The Wizard and I" ('unlimited' part)
Alright... WHO THE HECK IS “LOVER” AND WHO WAS HE TALKING TO
The lover is the Wizard
My school is doing wicked for our musical this year and being apart of the opening act, this has been really helpful thank you
glinda had to sing about her dead best friend while everyone celebrated.....
im upset now.
Oh shit that wizard was elphaba's DAD
I remember seeing Wicked for the first time and just hearing the first few seconds of this song made me start sobbing because I couldn't believe I was actually there. I'd dreamed about seeing Wicked for 15 years and it was just a surreal moment to actually finally be there. So now every time I listen to this song it always makes me so emotional because it brings me right back to one of the happiest moments of my life. Seeing Wicked again this summer and I can not wait!
