If I remember correctly (it's been a while), it was for the shock-enraged effect. Easy to break shield so the effect triggers more easily, also a simple grenade at your feet will break it and give you the effect.
Need explosion radius and ricochets. You can see what items I use at the end of the video. (area-of-effect damage on my artifact also increases explosion radius)
(I haven't played in a year so this response is only valid at the time of the upload of the video, I do not know if things have changed or not since) There's a sweet spot with explosion radius where you're far enough to not take damage from your own shots (maybe take a few steps back after you shoot for safety). Too low radius and the root won't do any good, too high and it'll kill you. Also ricochets of the root cannot kill you. The "area-of-effect damage" on my artifact also boosts AoE radius, that's where most of my radius is coming from. Try not to combine "AoE damage" with "splash damage radius" too much or you'll kill yourself.
Kinda...Could've taken the points from mindfulness but would get a little less shield uptime(Guardian perk topped off) means less action skill usage. But it's minimal. I found it odd that he didn't spec into Laid Bare. He is killing so fast that Unweave the rainbow wouldn't do much.

It's not. It's not even an OP build. Check any player who speedran this, they'll have way more effective builds.
