Good picks here! Wanna pick up The Uninvited in November, and am looking forward to the Val Lewton double feature 4K-which I picked up in the flash sale!
Love to see you loving Kwaidan! I watched it for the first time this month, too. The print I watched it on was 20 minutes shorter than what IMDb and Letterboxd listed, which made the theme of the final story kind of hit harder/gave me a good laugh.
@@spencernielsen392 oh yeah that’s how short the final tale is supposed to be. It has a super abrupt ending. Did you see the 161 minute version? I’m pretty sure that one has the deleted 20 minutes distributed throughout.
@@FilmsByColor Yes, it was that version! I figured the cut 20 minutes were from around the piece, but it directly affected the way I experienced the final chapter. Watched the first chapter on Criterion Channel with commentary, and it is insane how meticulously constructed the movie is. A stunning production!
There was a Supernatural Japanese Art exhibition at the state gallery, and the Japan Society unofficially showed some tie-ins. We got to see Kwaidan in a CINEMA without any preconception, and it was absolutely incredible. I think it's actually based upon a Portuguese clerical anthology of Japanese folklore from a few centuries ago.
Great commentary. I must say, even though I've seen all five films, your commentary are spot on and your enthusiasm is so genuine I'm compelled to rewatch some of them. Good job in doing so and your confidence along with your enthusiasm makes your videos so worth watching. My favorite Criterion Horror films are: NIGHT OF THE HUNTER; THE DEVIL"S BACKBONE; THE CAT PEOPLE; THE INNOCENTS; THE SEVENTH VICTIM, VALERIE AND HER WEEK OF WONDERS; THE BLOB, CARNIVAL OF SOULS, and FREAKS. Wow, I didn't realize that I liked so many horror films from Criterion.
Thanks for the kind words, Henry. I was so close to putting Valerie, Freaks, and Carnival of Souls on my list, but I ran out of room. I’ll have to save those for next time!
Was super happy when Arsenic and Old Lace got the Criterion treatment. Old is definitely the direction I go for spooky movies, count me out on the blood and gore films. Island of Lost Souls has been on my list for quite awhile, didn't think of it when making my picks. Might have to make it a November pickup. Ended up going with Double Indemnity, Sullivan's Travels (seen both before), and The Lady Eve, A Face In the Crowd (haven't seen either yet).
Thanks for another great show- the CC discs I go to are ones you’ve either mentioned (love The Uninvited) or ones I think you have (Seconds and All That Money Can Buy). But I’m not sure if you have any of the Brian DePalma films I’m thinking of- Blow Out, Sisters and Dressed to Kill- but they’re all creepy psychological thrillers with terrific endings. Enjoy! ❤️🎥
@@FilmsByColor DVDbeaver: "The 2-disc Radiance Blu-ray package advances upon the 2019 Criterion with a new commentary, multiple versions and different scores, visual essay, Guillermo del Toro, booklet, art cards and more. This is easily the definitive home theatre edition of Benjamin Christensen's Häxan and it will get many votes in our year-end poll. Our highest recommendation! "
I picked up Mildred Pierce for the sale this time. Gonna need to get Diabolique sometime soon. Maybe in November I first of of Kwaidan from being in the LB top 250. With your recommendation as well I’ll have to look into it
Yes!!!! I'm so happy you liked "The Uninvited," one of my two or three favorite horror films. Did Grace watch it with you? I know you said she usually doesn't join you for the horror films, but I thought she might like this one. And I know I've said this before, but I strongly encourage you to pick up the Kino Lorber release of the 1945 British horror anthology film, "Dead of Night." The film is a highly influential classic I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy, but the release also features a great audio commentary and an excellent 75-minute documentary on the making of the film.

@ConnerNielsen6 smart call on the Lewton double. Will need to pick that up in November if I can remember.

I love the shirt man!
Diabolique is superb and right up there with THE WAGES OF FEAR
Kwaidan is a must along with KURONEKO, ONIBABA and WOMAN IN THE DUNES
Hell Yeah! I just saw the one Criterion Blu-ray Demon Pond which is also very good. Jigoku and Empire of Passion need blu-rays.

If you've not seen many Ray Milland movies I highly recommend The Lost Weekend, an early film from Billy Wilder
superb film
Just watched The Uninvited for the first time. Such a great movie!
I'm currently waiting for the Radiance version of HAXAN to be delivered, I've had it on DVD for years, but never got round to watching it
@@AndyKing1963 That radiance release is beautiful. I’m so tempted to double dip. Let me know how it is when it arrives.

I need that shirt.
Other Ray Milland movies you'll definitely want to check out: Dial M for Murder and The Man with the X-ray Eyes
We all love the Cult shirt. Did you custom make that or is it available for sale somewhere. Great video
@@sopranos197 My wife bought the shirt for me a while ago. I think she found it on Etsy
Been mia from the channel cause of life but just the video I needed!

@@gracemartinez18 That's great! So glad you enjoyed it. I watch it every fall.
My friends keep recommending the movie House, I need to finally watch that one haha.
I just picked it up this year! It’s definitely going to be a new yearly rewatch . Absolutely wild film
