Hunting for Fulgurites is becoming one of our favorite past times, let us know in the comments below if you want to see us come back to a different sand mine to find more of these incredible beauties!
That is just so cool, knowing that the exact same conditions that are conducive for fulgarites, is just as true today as it was millions of years ago! Honestly, thank you for posting this. My son just married a young lady that has three young children, two of whom are already old enough to have shown in an interest in science--they are learning about rocketry, and my son is having so much fun taking them out to fire off their rockets that they built themselves. They've shown an interest in my modest fossil collection, and this gives me another idea for a cool, fun family trip out--to hunt fulgarites. At the very least, we could take them out to the Great Salt Plains to hunt for selenite crystals. Thank you so much for giving me ideas on how to help my new grandchildren learn fun things about science!
HOLY CRAP... That was a mindblowing video! I have a history with lightning-- nine times in my life I've had strikes within a couple hundred feet of me, starting when I was only 3 years old; that one hit a tree in the next yard and put me on the ground, deafening me for a little while and burning me where I'd been leaning against a metal pole. Our house was struck three times (it caught the roof on fire once) and there was a strike outside my workplace that blew a chunk out of a cement wall and one to a palm tree about a hundred feet from my car while I was driving to work. The house I lived in after I married was struck twice. The last one hit a telephone pole within sight of my front door, and now I just want to go check for fulgarites wherever they hit! O_O .....but not on a stormy day.
Wow how fantastic. I've only ever seen these in the sweet home alabama movie 😅. So much power, I love how different each piece is. So much fun diggi g each piece out. Sodo fossilised is my next Google search hehe thanks for another very cool video 👍🏼

I didn't learn about fulgurites until only a few years back. They absolutely captured my imagination. Can't wait to look for them again!

You are lucky to be alive and in one piece
I suspect that won't be the only time you catch lightning in a bottle. Well done.
