the footswitch setup is unorthodox. it's simple. Both channels red and green are on with footswitch plugged in. The middle pins are ground on the 6 pin. connect ground to the top and bottom on one side and you will get an led to light, and mute the opposite channel. So one side selects the green led and mutes the red channel, where the other selects the red led and mutes the green channel.
I have a RG-80 112 that I bought used. It had an annoying hum that made it unplayable. I plugged a short cord from the sent to the return loop jacks on back and it was totally quiet. Cleaning the jacks or just plugging a cord in a few times might solve some of the issues people are having.
Im getting a bad hum from my new rg80 combo single 12. It’s for a light high pitch squill and bad hum. The louder the volume the louder it gets. It only does it when you plug a cable in. Even if guitar isn’t connected yet. No cable it don’t make any sound other than at full throttle you hear a light hiss (normal) unless I have 6 bad cables (not happening)
Love the old Randall’s. A little mad at this cliff hanger ending. That said I am subscribed and can’t wait to see your solution. FYI that trim pot is for the bias I believe. Also, there’s a trick you can do with a paper clip on the 6 pin jack. In the schematic, you can see which pins to short to get it to work. I blew up a RG100ES and fried everything so I am hurting for another one! If I may request, you figured out the resistors tied to the LEDs without lifting the board out and tracing it. How did you do that? Eager to learn!
Thanks for subbing. Great feedback. I am going to work on it in a bit. Schematic said the LED’s were connected to the 1.5k and I saw those were connected to the rectifier in the power section. So I traced that wire withe flashlight to see through the board then confirmed it with continuity check. After I posted the vid, I did see that those traitors don’t fix my missing -20something voltage on that capacitor that is going to ground. I suspect another broken resistor. But I know where to trace it. I’ll record and post results. ✌️
Hey man good video, I noticed the scratchy pots, Randall amps sound broken when they are dirty, so just cleaning the pots does wonders. These amps are noisy because the power section is wide open, don’t believe me plug a pedal in the return side of the amp, you will see. The LED’s only work with the footswitch, so you turn down the channel you are not using or you can blend them together
I ended up getting the amp running great. When I recording, I lost footage so I was not able to make a follow up video. I used the pin method in the back to bypass the footswitch. The owner wants it on channel 2 only.
@@rsaldana1980 awe too bad about the footage, if you get a chance read the Randall manual, it clearly states to dial either or on the channels or blend them, it was never truly designed to be a 2 channel amp. I work with one of the lead engineers on the rg80 who confirms this, he says another mod is to remove the reverb and you can run the channels from the reverb 1/4 in switch
No joke, I have an RG100HT with this exact mod. I couldn't get the channel switching to work via the Cinch Jones plug. I pulled the amp apart and found the wiring wasn't as it should have been. In the back of my mind, I thought that they might have been switching through the reverb and the above comment confirmed it for me.... anyways, it's all back to original now 🤘@@donsmith5385
I just purchased the rg 100es for $40.00. Yes, forty bucks. I'm have this exact issue. Neither led lights up. The amp is dated January 25, 1985. Also when I'm plugged in both volumes turn up amp. If I turn down both volumes I still get volume from the guitar. So yeah looking forward to your next video. I'm searching for a schematic or repair manual. ✌
The LED switch on with the footswitch. These amps are really tough. If you read the manual the amp really isn’t a 2 channel amp, it’s more like 2 voices, or blend
@@donsmith5385 got her fixed. First I cleaned the plug female side with detox. Then I found a new footswitch that incorporates the reverb. Everything works perfectly.
So you fix these things, huh? I have a Randall Cyclone that has a noisy static-y hum especially noticeable on the gain channel. Could be filter caps, maybe idk. I would love to send you my amp for you to work your magic.
@@rsaldana1980 awesome i got the same head but without the wood enclosure at an unbelievable price je ! just one more question do you know what size is the screw so i can go and buy it or do you know any website that sell them thanks :D!!!

Randall lover here and amateur audio electronics tech. Loved the episode and waiting for more!
Thanks. I am working on it now. I hope this works.

I had the same problem with my rg80 112sc and fixed it the same way!

Thanks so much. I have a lot more coming. Amps, Synths, Pedals, and more.

How did you get the new switch to incorporate the reverb? On mine the reverb is a separate jack on the back of the amp.
can u show all board in hd for my info thx
