I've been living in Brunei for more 20 years. From what I can say is. The Sultan is a good ruler, beloved by his citizens and residents. About the last question? He did gives charity. Way a lot more than what you guys think. It's just that He's so humble that not many people knows about it.
I think as a king, he hould make his charities public so as to shut the critics up. Because this Practice of Giving charity with your right hand while your left hand is unware per Islamic sayings(if I'm not mistaken) is completely Alien to westerners. He(Sultan) simply does not parade his charity works. Try google his previous donations,etc.. for some public info.
Johan Ashmawi what do you mean unware? also about giving charity out in public, there is a lot uncovered in news (locally and some outside news) that HM gives out rather a lot to His citizen, residents and also to countries and states that needed. Maybe that news doesn't spread far to western hemisphere(there's many reason for that) but let me tell you this. Some people will not be happy in either way as to speak about what He done.... if HM parade His charity and public, He will be branded as showoff or unsincere by outside news. If HM hide the charity, the outside news will call Him stingy, cruel, etc. The thing is it's hard to make people understand Him especially the outside news. They rather put up some big, impact news such as his "too expensive" car collection but they don't count His contribution has far outweigh the cost of all of His cars.

One impressive thing about brunei that i adore is the financial assistance for the people. Like education and health care is free and has no taxes. Wow! 👏

Its also because we are a religious country. In islam beliefs, suicide will guarantee you a trip to hell forever and most of us are scared about that. However, there are many i know who have depression and extreme stress still. This is mainly because, even though we our healthcare and education (we are even paid to go to school) are free. Jobs in brunei is getting lesser by the day and students who all got free education are now unemployed. Parents also have higher expectations as many others in the previous generation when unemployment wasnt a big problem, have succeeded and gotten a job.
He's a wonderful person who helps his people. I lived in Brunei for a few years and I had fun and made many friends. I even attended the Michael Jackson concert for free!!! I was one of the last few people that gain entry to the stadium. It was one of the best times of my life.
I’ve recently visited Brunei Darussalam and stayed in the Capital and in a Resort in the Temburong National Park(Ulu Ulu Temburong) I must say it’s a beautiful place and I’ve enjoyed my stay in Brunei.

I've been living in brunei all my life and this a lot of stuff I didn't know about him and this is the first time I ever searched on youtube about the sultan, one of the best part is the michael jackson one, god I remembered watching him perform live on stage when I was a kid, I'm forever grateful to the sultan for that.Also the sultan just seem so active for his old age doing a lot of things, I always thought he was invincible. He doesn’t look down onto his people but spent his time on his birthday under the hot sun for many days going to watch each districts’ performances (the place we perform is under the hot sun but we have camp and stages) and they are on the ground, once the performances is finished, he will walk around the area to allow his people to take pictures with him and provide food for everyone there

2:55 that palace shown from above is NOT Istana Nurul Iman. Its Istana Negara in Malaysia's capital, Kuala Lumpur for Malaysia's king. Look at the top of the frame you can see dense city buildings. Bandar Seri Begawan is not as densely developed as Kuala Lumpur City

The picture of Sultan Brunei's palace is wrong. Its not his palace. Its the palace of Yang Di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia. How doe i know it ? 1. Brunei does not have sky scrappers building, their building is regulated to be not taller thn the mosque minarets in Brunei Darussalam which hold the title for the tallest building structures in Brunei. 2. The picture was the picture of the latest Royal Palace for Malaysia's Yang Di-Pertuan Agong. 3. The picture clearly shows the Kuala Lumpur Tower and Petronas Twin Tower in it.

I worked in Brunei for 4 years and six months. I worked in a decent Bruneian state school and I worked for the Bruneian M.o.E as an English language curriculum advisor. I served HM too as the Chief IGSCE Oral Examiner for Belait District (KB and Seria, the oil regions) and an 'O' Level examiner upon the Cambridge model. He came to our school in 2013 and was a very nice man. I met him then. He is quite dimunutive in stature and very softly spoken. One day, we were all called into the dewan ( school hall). We were each given a gold watch with his face on. Brunei is a very safe and peaceful place. It is also very boring. However, if one crosses the border to Miri in Malaysia, it becomes crazy town. I sometimes miss my Bruneian days. Great for golf, tennis, diving, all sports and really nice people. The Sultan was a good boss and a responsible leader. I forgot to mention that at that time, as Brunei is a family orientated state, I got a very generous allowance for my wife and kids AND an international school school allowance. Do not believe the Western bs about Brunei: it is a nice little safe country.

He had built 2000 houses for the bruneians and by now he had made several more which probably around 6000 houses and it’s either free or only few dollars. There’s no homeless people here and known as the peaceful country. I live in Brunei and this Saturday we will be performing for him because he visit districts by districts during his birthday. He also spent time to take pictures with his people and greetings. During Islam special day such as Hari Raya he sent thousands of gifts all around Brunei which is a golden box of brunei dessert which is well known to be eaten during that day. He is also very aware of Brunei safety.

My dad used to work in Brunei. Back in 2005, when I went to visit my parents in Brunei, I got ill and had to stay in the hospital for 3 months. Guess how much was the hospital bill? $1 Brunei dollar. Now if that isn't charity, then I don't know what is, and I am not even a Bruneian. The Education is free for everyone. And I have heard from many that the Royal Treasury pays the Tuition for anyone who wishes to study abroad or if has to get medical treatment abroad.

M a Bruneian and speaking about charity work he gives thousands of dollars to the poor (in fact we have very few poor people here as most of those who label themselves as "poor" are usually in debt). We hear news of him frequently disguising himself as an ordinary citizen wearing a cap and sunglass and he would walk along the streets of Bandar with only one bodyguard and giving hundreds of dollars if he spotted any beggars or homeless people. He would usually talk to them in private before handing them the cash as some citizens are taking advantage of his kindness. To put on top of that he would grant them free housing and a monthly allowance of $300 and a constant flow of household every month until that person gets a stable job.

I've been living in Brunei for more 20 years. From what I can say is. The Sultan is a good ruler, beloved by his citizens and residents.
About the last question? He did gives charity. Way a lot more than what you guys think. It's just that He's so humble that not many people knows about it.
I think as a king, he hould make his charities public so as to shut the critics up. Because this Practice of Giving charity with your right hand while your left hand is unware per Islamic sayings(if I'm not mistaken) is completely Alien to westerners. He(Sultan) simply does not parade his charity works. Try google his previous donations,etc.. for some public info.

Maybe that news doesn't spread far to western hemisphere(there's many reason for that) but let me tell you this. Some people will not be happy in either way as to speak about what He done.... if HM parade His charity and public, He will be branded as showoff or unsincere by outside news. If HM hide the charity, the outside news will call Him stingy, cruel, etc. The thing is it's hard to make people understand Him especially the outside news. They rather put up some big, impact news such as his "too expensive" car collection but they don't count His contribution has far outweigh the cost of all of His cars.

Its also because we are a religious country. In islam beliefs, suicide will guarantee you a trip to hell forever and most of us are scared about that. However, there are many i know who have depression and extreme stress still. This is mainly because, even though we our healthcare and education (we are even paid to go to school) are free. Jobs in brunei is getting lesser by the day and students who all got free education are now unemployed. Parents also have higher expectations as many others in the previous generation when unemployment wasnt a big problem, have succeeded and gotten a job.

I've been living in brunei all my life and this a lot of stuff I didn't know about him and this is the first time I ever searched on youtube about the sultan, one of the best part is the michael jackson one, god I remembered watching him perform live on stage when I was a kid, I'm forever grateful to the sultan for that.Also the sultan just seem so active for his old age doing a lot of things, I always thought he was invincible. 2. The picture was the picture of the latest Royal Palace for Malaysia's Yang Di-Pertuan Agong.

I worked in Brunei for 4 years and six months. I worked in a decent Bruneian state school and I worked for the Bruneian M.o.E as an English language curriculum advisor.
I served HM too as the Chief IGSCE Oral Examiner for Belait District (KB and Seria, the oil regions) and an 'O' Level examiner upon the Cambridge model.
He came to our school in 2013 and was a very nice man. I met him then. He is quite dimunutive in stature and very softly spoken.
One day, we were all called into the dewan ( school hall). We were each given a gold watch with his face on.
Brunei is a very safe and peaceful place. It is also very boring. However, if one crosses the border to Miri in Malaysia, it becomes crazy town.
I sometimes miss my Bruneian days. Great for golf, tennis, diving, all sports and really nice people. The Sultan was a good boss and a responsible leader.
I forgot to mention that at that time, as Brunei is a family orientated state, I got a very generous allowance for my wife and kids AND an international school school allowance.

I'm here and I want to say Happy 34th National Day to Brunei!!! As a citizen of Brunei, I am lucky to live here because there's less conflict compared to the other country. He had built 2000 houses for the bruneians and by now he had made several more which probably around 6000 houses and it’s either free or only few dollars. There’s no homeless people here and known as the peaceful country. I live in Brunei and this Saturday we will be performing for him because he visit districts by districts during his birthday. He also spent time to take pictures with his people and greetings. During Islam special day such as Hari Raya he sent thousands of gifts all around Brunei which is a golden box of brunei dessert which is well known to be eaten during that day. He is also very aware of Brunei safety.

My dad used to work in Brunei. Back in 2005, when I went to visit my parents in Brunei, I got ill and had to stay in the hospital for 3 months. Guess how much was the hospital bill? $1 Brunei dollar. Now if that isn't charity, then I don't know what is, and I am not even a Bruneian. The Education is free for everyone. And I have heard from many that the Royal Treasury pays the Tuition for anyone who wishes to study abroad or if has to get medical treatment abroad.

M a Bruneian and speaking about charity work he gives thousands of dollars to the poor (in fact we have very few poor people here as most of those who label themselves as "poor" are usually in debt). We hear news of him frequently disguising himself as an ordinary citizen wearing a cap and sunglass and he would walk along the streets of Bandar with only one bodyguard and giving hundreds of dollars if he spotted any beggars or homeless people. He would usually talk to them in private before handing them the cash as some citizens are taking advantage of his kindness. To put on top of that he would grant them free housing and a monthly allowance of $300 and a constant flow of household every month until that person gets a stable job.
