      That card is being used to justify their own actions, basically, they are trying to say to the rest of the world, shut up and allow us to do whatever we want, whiles calling anyone that criticizes Israel as anti-semite, they basically don't want anyone to criticize them, regardless of their own actions of legitimate reasons to criticizes them, it's been done by many other groups of people throughout history to allow them to get away with far more, but in this case, Israel is slowly losing friends because of it's actions.

    It's such a simple answer to a seemingly complex question: populists have rhetoric, emotional appeals, and charisma, but when they win off of those traits, the one thing they absolutely do not have is the ability to govern and run a country.

    • @KinnyRiddle
      @KinnyRiddle 29 дней назад

      Populists who manage to win enough people to vote them into power are basically the dog that caught the car. They're good at running after the car, and that optics make for an exciting view to watch, but after that, they do nothing.

    • @carmineingaldi47
      @carmineingaldi47 28 дней назад +2

      This is what happens in Italy. Meloni grew from 4% to 27% and the biggest reason after the staggering voters churn, was that she went against EVERYTHING EVERY GOVERNMENT would have done. Now that she is in power, al she is doing is maintains status-quo. She cut budget by removing the low cost sort-of-UBI that previous government created (who cares about poor people?) But she did nothing against the infamous superbonus, one of the most stupid laws in the history of European economics, a mass real estate subsidize without an upper bound that is doing little for the economy but it's destroying state budget. Italians already figured out she is a scam, but they are cool with it because they are just disheartened from the politics as a whole....and the last time they felt that way, a guy with a black shirt went to Rome for a walk

    • @andybrice2711
      @andybrice2711 28 дней назад +1

      Yeah, that's a great point which really seems to sum it up.
      I'd argue that the mainstream response to populism should be to listen to the populist concerns, and respond with level-headed solutions. If you just dismiss them as stupid, that usually backfires. Like Hilary Clinton's _"basket of deplorables"_ speech.

    • @carmineingaldi47
      @carmineingaldi47 28 дней назад

      @andybrice2711 i feel this is not applicable. I won't say that fighting populism with cold bureaucracy and distaste for the masses it's a great idea (Democratic party look at me), but the "level-headed" solution implicitly admits that you as a voter have your share of faults and you have to be ready to make some sacrifice (ie. drop the superbonus) so you are more inclined to accept that no, you are on the right side, it's EU/immigrants/scientist that are trying to steal from you. You see, Salvini was at 30% few years ago, now it's become irrelevant just because his inconsistency was exposed...at the end populism pays off only in the short term, so things get better after both people and politicians acknowledge this single fact and will be able to match on a leadership class that is willing to talk about policies with a content....but before this happens, we are gonna suffer

    • @f-86zoomer37
      @f-86zoomer37 28 дней назад

      @@carmineingaldi47 LOL you realize Meloni has never been in political office before, like all populists and demagogues? She doesn’t even know what governance is. She realized when she was sworn in, that her power is limited by democracy and she can’t do things she promised, because they weren’t doable in the first place. What you think of Meloni being a scam, is her actually realizing she’s not allowed to take steps to end democracy.

    The Vannacci story is months old and nothing particular regarding it happened in the last days and Salvini is NOT in particular danger, it's exactly as always, he's not appreciated by Bossi, the original leader and there's serious talking about substituting him but it's not something new, it's something that is going on by years, plus you implied that he got into power in the league after 2014 and with his skills or something like that he got it to 36% but it's wrong, he's leader by 2013, he was already in power by 2014 when they got such low votes. In general your segments regarding Italy are always really not perfect, at the point that it's nigh disinformation, and it's not a matter of words, with less words you could have said it better easily, i hope that you will pay more attention about it because it really happens often and a lot of people trust your videos

    By that I mean that the threat of invasion is great enough that they don't have the time to wait for all the NATO members to accept them joining? Considering what just happened with Sweden taking so long to enter because of Hungary and Turkey, I can see it as a possible way for safety, but I'm not sure how possible it would be.

He's been scrambling for votes for a while, knowing full well these eu elections are gonna be hard on him. As for meloni, she's definitely hard-right but nowhere near the dystopia fascistic dictator many feared she'd have become by now which is fortunate

      Depends what you define as falling apart haha - its probably better to specify that elements of the far right are "falling apart", if we include defections in that definition, which I think is fair to do so, as that corresponds with losing power over the legislature. Idk much about Italian politics tho, so the importance of it in this particular case is probably something that you can look into on your own

  • @giovannia.1692

    Hello, thanks for the video. I’m from Italy and my opinion about our politics is that left became a group of intellectuals from the big cities who are incapable to understand the real problems of most of Italians, who are not super educated and not leaving in the majors cities. So at the end people votes for those politicians who they feel more close to their life problems not for a vision of the future (mind we have a very old population). The right in general is much more able to understand people’s problems and that is why they are leading now. Extreme right was up and down because was the time where Lega turned from a local pro north party to a national one and there was a lot of enthusiasm. But they went to leading a mixed government with M5S party that is center left. Instead fratelli d’Italia (Meloni) stayed out and gained a lot of consensus for being serious and not accepting compromise with the left area of the party. That is why her party now is the Italian right and Lega lost a lot of consensus.

    • @carmineingaldi47
      @carmineingaldi47 28 дней назад

      I'm not a fan of M5S but they could have been the trade off between that kind of narrative that is able to speak to people and progressive policies that our country desperately needs. The problem is that they never thought they could govern the country so they just attacked everyone, becoming political pariahs

    A bit more context about Colombia: Gustavo Petro declare the end of diplomatic relations in the middle of a worker´s day gathering that was called by him a week after an anti-government manifestation called by the oposition. This is probably a way to rally his diminishing supporters around a popular cause to keep his popularity after a series of failures in the legislative to pass legislation to re-nationalize healthcare and strengthen the weak welfare state. Also, Israeli soldiers trained far right death squads back in the 90s, fot that reason many leftist Colombians have a deep hatred towards Israel

    I assume that either the team mistranslated Petro's remarks or Petro made that outrageous accusation at the wrong individual. I imagine the error lies with the fact that the spanish term for Prime Minister is Presidente del Gobierno - President of the Government. The president of Israel is a figurehead with mostly ceremonial powers, and the current holder, Yizhak Hertzog, was considered a leftist before he got the job, which contrasts with the current hard right-wing government, and anyways has essentially no sway over the decisionmaking.

    • @user-xt1bz2rs4v
      @user-xt1bz2rs4v 29 дней назад +1

      Not that there is a right individual besides Yahya Sinwar and his genocidal underlings, but putting the blame on a moderate figure like Hertzog instead of people with histories of incitement to racism like Netanyahu or a past record of being unable to run for office due to their party's extremist platform (people or parties that are openly racist can't run for the Knesset) like Ben-Gvir seems implausible, even for enemies of Israel, since Netanyahu and Ben-Gvir are much easier and more recognizable icons to rally against, which is also a point that is true for Israel's opposition parties.
