@@chkldstgee2433 They used wind to drive mechanical machinery in mills which meant they were only able to work when the wind blew. Just like today. When steam, which worked regardless of weather came along, the windmills were abandoned.

I live in Bulgaria. If we go on holiday for a few months, we turn off the leccy and water. So, we pay nothing. No 'standing charge' here. Use nothing-pay nothing.

About 80% of Met Office weather stations are class 4 or 5 standard. Class 4 can be as much as 2C warmer, class 5 as much as 5C warmer. Junk status.
Class 5 and 4 are considered the most accurate.

It's a utopian idea but unfortunately we live in the real world.
Net zero is never going to be achievable and particularly not so as the complete CO2 emission per one person per year in this country is roughly 13 tons of CO2, making immigration an extremely costly affair not just on the general expenses to house, feed and clothe them, and provide healthcare, entertainment and education, but also in terms of the additional CO2 that comes with every single individual arriving in the UK.
We are actually paying to have two grids running side by side, one ‘renewable’ the other a backup alternative. Talk is cheap but reality cannot be overturned by words.
The other untruth is that wind and solar are "green" they are not. Both require carbon intensive manufacture and both have disposal issues. Wind turbines also use diesel to start and keep them warmed in winter and are a major killer of birds.

The high energy costs are crippling British industry and driving the inflation. Cheap reliable energy is the the main way of getting people out of poverty. Green energy isn't cheap or reliable and that is why electricity costs so much. Also electricity is only 20% of the UKs total energy usage .

Making energy use more efficient is a more realistic goal than net zero. An energy efficient society may be achievable - but not a net zero society. China and other developing countries seem to have no interest in a net zero society, with China building new coal fired plants every single week, even if they are also investing in renewable energy, which has its own problems of being not reliable enough. Desirable as it is, it is doubtful renewables can supply more than a fraction of energy demand, and even if it ever did, it will not be for a very long time. I do hope I am wrong but I fear I am not.
Still use oil, gas, coal, electricity as normal, you just now import these from abroad and drive your country to poverty …🙄🤷♂️
