    I think the price is fare for the work done. The recon comes with warranty by reputable builder.
    The engine has been upgraded so you should be good for 1,000,000km mark.
    Would of been a lot more with V8 rebuild, the injectors and fuel pumps would be that price.

  • @daviddanne5259
    @daviddanne5259 10 месяцев назад

    Great videos, thank you for sharing them. I recon you’ve done well with those $prices$. I don’t know how much experience you’ve had in the past with either turbocharged or non turbocharged engines, (Please ask your mechanic before you do what I’m suggesting as I’m not a mechanic) regardless of whether or not you’re trying to conserve fuel, occasionally they need a bit of a kick (accelerate hard from the stop position to the signed speed limit, as it should do at least 2 (two) things, 1) un gunk the injectors and 2) maybe help your d.p.f. from clogging up. I’ve got a Nissan Navara 3Litre V6 turbo diesel (stx-550), hasn’t quite done 200k, never had a problem with either injectors or d.p.f. If you decide to do what I’ve suggested, you can do it with or without the caravan (safer without the caravan), you should see in your review mirror a good black cloud of diesel exhaust smoke.
    When you’re towing the caravan, I can only suggest that you try using the manual shift, as it should save the automatic transmission. I’ve got a 7metre 900kg tandem trailer, I always use the manual shift when towing that trailer, especially when it’s loaded. Take care, enjoy yourselves and stay safe on your travels.

    The thing about good Engineered Reco Engines is, your getting an engine that is usually stronger and better than a OME Engine. This mated to your vehicle, a vehicle which you have usually vested much of your time, sweet and money into setting up to your specs . . . Usually means . . . you'll get many more years and kilometres out of a vehicle you setup and know. Enjoy your New Old Prado

    My apologies, it's my 1st time viewing your channel, so maybe you've addressed it elsewhere, but am still going to ask :-). How much would it have been to sell the Prado and but back a similar one (or even a LC200) of the same year and mileage? Is that at all worth considering?

    • @JS_Adventure
      @JS_Adventure  Год назад +1

      No worries mate. We would’ve only got around $10k for it and as we live on the road we couldn’t do a part out, but with all the accessories on it we would’ve been at a huge loss. (bar work, suspension, tyres, winch and rack) We do plan on upgrading to a new/bigger car but we’re just not ready at the moment and don’t want to get ourselves in debt

    • @QnA22
      @QnA22 Год назад

      @@JS_Adventure Thanks so much for your reply. Yes, fully understand the debt thing. I've only lived in Oz for a year and imported my Prado several years ago. But I've left and upgraded my Prado to an LC200. I too dislike debt, but it seems the prices i pay are incomparable to the prices in Oz. Significantly lower according to my colleagues and the internet in Oz. That's why i was possibly underestimating the trade off.
      If you do go for an LC200 or other bigger car (i also have a Ford Everest as a work car, very big too, and lots cheaper), do keep in mind that going to cities is not as easy. Especially parking in underground garages is near impossible. Other parking's tend to be too small in length as well as width. I guess it's mostly Sydney with issues like that. For the rest, it is truly wonderful. Lots of increased comfort, space, but also the extra load (i think it was 70kg on the prado, and 300kg on the lc200) on the roof rack is amazing if you like to use a roof rack tent for weekend camping trips instead of the caravan. Cost wise, tires costed me a bit more, but I've not noticed any noticeably bigger cost. Well..... gas use. I went from diesel to petrol. Fully loaded (RTT, 6 mud tires, luggage, 140 liter tank, basically at full max load), i do on average between 1:6 - 1-9 l/km. Sometimes 1:11 at low constant speeds on good off road tracks. So that's definitely an extra cost to take in. But if i remember correctly, petrol engine in Oz are rare. So that may not be an issue for you. Though my friends with diesels don't do a whole lot better. Oops, going off on a rant. Thanks again for letting me know the trade off.

    4 cylinders towing a caravan is basically asking for trouble. No matter what the tow rating is, 4 cylinders get a power stroke every 180 degrees and that is a LOT of strain on crankshaft on top of turbo. No wonder pistons are cracking. If towing big, get a 6 or 8 cylinder.

    Prados and Hiluxes with blown D4D motors, lined up outside for replacement engines? What about all this crud about Toyota toughness and reliability? You don't see other makes lined up outside the engine reconditioner's shop (sorry, I forgot about Nissan's 4 cyl hand grenades). Can you imagine what the costs will be for the new 300's when the V6's with those twin turbos in the "Hot V" start to melt down and fly apart - and they will. That's what nightmares are made of!
