Great job Ryan, I couldn't be happier. What isn't shown in this video is the amazing job that he did on the set up and overall care to restore this beloved guitar. Thank you!
I've got a few guitars with painted necks (Jackson X series Rhoads; Ibanez Xiphos; Jackson X series Soloist) and this video is EXACTLY what I was looking for. I've just ordered my cabinet scrapers from Amazon and I look forward to starting on one of the guitars this weekend. Thank you for taking the time to put this video together and posting it online! MUCH appreciated.
You're welcome Chris and good luck with the paint removal! I've done some Jacksons that I used to own and the paint was really thick on them, so you maybe doing some digging. Just be patient with it and careful not to dig into the wood.
@@ryanpuskarich I just completed my first neck. The Jackson RRX24. It had the thickest coat of white sealant. I wish my lines came out as perfect as yours, but overall it still looks great and most of all, FEELS great. Thank you again.
@@thrashnbash314 That's great to hear and you're welcome so much!! Bye bye sticky neck paint!! Ya Jacksons lay the paint/sealant on thick and it makes the removal a bit tough.
Wow!!! That's great looking work!!! I'm hesitating about to grind my guitar neck in order to reshape it and remove sticky, black, horrible paint that's not so comfortable to play, and also thought about putting some oil on it to save sanded neck from sweat, this video shows that it's pretty good idea to perform
Thanks for this video, i was trying to SAND it to the bare wood (to reshape and repaint) But... The poly dust has been way too much, so i will try with the scrapper. Thank you so much (logic tells me a heat gun would not be convenient in the neck😅)
You're welcome and it's definitely a learning process. I recommend starting with 120 sandpaper and using a lot of elbow power. It's easy to deeply scratch the wood as you learn how to do this job. Only use a scraper if you feel completely confident. I would say never use a heat gun cause you can loosen the frets and glue joints and really cause damage.
Thanks for this video. I need to strip the paint off of a replacement neck I ordered. It is painted black but I want like you have the natural Tru Oil finish. Any lessons leaned to add?
Hey you're welcome, I've been doing these for a while now and I get more proficient every time I do the job. So unfortunately you just have to give it a try and see how it turns out. You may come up better techniques that what I'm doing. Just be careful not to dig to deep, that's very important. Good luck!
Why didn't you use the tape before you painted it just a little heads up it really 8s not that hard to watch a 🎉few videos on RUclips to start off with 😂 that's good practice for all you young people he is doing a great job just if he would have asked the paint department at your local paint store can help.. if your ocd its a bad idea to paint your guitar lol.

Thanks Chip and you're very welcome! Hope you get many more great years out of this awesome guitar!!
Natural woox neck use a green scratch pad like a cue stick silk Smooth and clean
Dawg, the EXACT video I needed thanks man
You're welcome Nick!

@@ryanpuskarich it was definitely on thick and a challenge to remove. It's gone now though and I couldn't be happier with the guitar.

Thanks and It's a must do for most guitars imo. Best of luck if you take on the job, it'll be worth it!!
Looks good dude nice .

So I was just going through my feeds and this video popped up... lol!!! I will subscribe and like for you!!
Thanks Bridget!!!!
Can i send my Gibson Explorer to you and have you do the entire body like this?
You could if you want, thats a lot of sanding on my end. Visit my site and we can go from there if you're serious www.rpguitarist.com
good decision man👍
Thanks, it's the best mod imo!
Is it possible to do the headstock and still save the logo?
Depends on the guitar, most likely you would just have to sand a box or circle around it and do the best you can.
Waoooo so beautiful 😍😍😍😍
Hey thanks!
Why not remove the tuners first to make it easier?
You could, but for me they're really not in my way.

I didnt do any painting so Im not totally understanding what you are suggesting. This was a factory neck paint removal job for playability.
Have you heard of Paint Stripper? LOL
Sure, and ruin all the glue joints!
