It was a miracle that apparently everyone was safe after this, I don't understand why there aren't 100 kill switches around incase this happens, that guy who turned it off and stayed around was a millisecond away from being cast into a 50,000 pound statue of mush

It's pretty... unusual that all those people basically just hung out instead of beating feet out of there, isn't it? I mean... what are the odds that everyone working at a business has an IQ of less than 79, lol?

Remember it’s almost molten steel; so if you shut it down with a taffy like steel inside of roller assemblies it’s going to be a real pain to clean up. You would be down for hours, meaning no steel is going out, which means no money coming in. If you let the steel taffy exit the machinery then you can drop the next slab in when you clean up the cooled steel ribbon candy.
There is a delicate balance of productivity and safety. Hot metal guys make big money for a reason: this kind of stuff happens.

@@iananderson8363 There's supposed to be a set of high speed cutting sheers before and after just about every operation on rolling lines. When there's a mishap, the sheers are there to chong everything down to small bits in order to limit damage. It does not seem like there was any of that going on here.

Wow, there needs to be an OFF button when this sort of mishap occurs.A lot of those workers got really lucky.

To think you can just "turn off" something that fails under high pressure says more about your low intelligence than it does about the workers.

High forces, lots of mass moving, call it what you want. You don't stop a freight train on a dime by pulling the emergency brake, neither do you stop something like this in an instant by hitting the emergency stop. The amount of inertia in both the material and the machine parts is tremendous. Questions? Or would you like to keep making fun of my slightly misworded English instead?

I know that SOMETHING is falling from above, and it's hot and dangerous, but I'm just curious about WHAT was faling from above. So don't try and assume that I'm an idiot because I wanted to know what was falling from the ceiling. I KNEW that it was hot and as such was very dangerous. It was what was falling from the ceiling that my question was, not "Hurr durr, what's going on, hurr durr, why are people running around it's just cotton candy lul".

Or some automation specialist put some by-pass on photocells🤨 and last thing...where mill operator was looking? He should inmediatly stop the the drives.
