Louis Carpenter experience doesn't matter. What matters is whether those in power have the same end goals at heart as the population and by far they do not. We have a professional political class whose only goal is to gain power and keep it. Everything they do is bent on that goal. I relate completely here in terms of: left is for people, right is for dosh. This is the reason I consider myself liberal, but Liberal Democrats are TERRIBLE at selling themeslves, so I'd vote labour. It's a pity the country chose growth over people, even if it will save us from the *non-avertible economic crisis* :(
Sad thing is lib dems aren't liberals. As defined by JS Milne classical liberalism is "the right to starve". Liberalism is the belief that people should be left alone and and that the state should only run defence and law and order. Lib dems are a weird haunted mess of these liberals and the socialist social democrats. Personally I believe that the party should split and allow liberals to be separate from thus social democrats to do what they want and liberals do what they want. I think people should be true to their beliefs rather than merging for political power and that liberalism is massively misunderstood (of course it's different form modern liberalism which is a different beast entirely)
Will Humphreys I am similar, although I went the other way. My reason is that the country needs to live within it's means, and Labour did not offer that. I also took great issue in Ed Milliband's leadership ability, Cameron's isn't great if I am honest, but it is better. Yes, many will be worse off, but the current standard of living is unsustainable economically, and it is future generations that will have to pay that price, and will have to cut back even more than today. The current INTEREST on our national debt is greater than the cost of the NHS already, don't make it worse than it already is. It will help people in the long run, but it means cutting down today.
Ur my favorite RUclipsr because you are extremely nice, very moral (just not in video games), fucking hysterical, very smart, very relatable, and you are one of the few RUclipsrs that I can watch in an unedited video. U are fucking awesome Dan.
Well, technically under the current system we have you vote for the MP. BUT most people vote for the party, this is really a result of having an unelected head of state. In germany they vote for both, they vote for the person in the head of state elections and vote for the party in the parliamentary elections. Works way better.
Damn, the UK seems more and more fucked up whenever I read or hear about it on the internet. Which is really fucked up to see, because in my country the UK is viewed as some sort of paradise to move to, because it's said to be better to live in.
I live in the uk and yes it's fucked up seen this guys got in power my family and many other have started to struggle to even but food when labour where in power it's wasn't much of a struggle it's getting worse over here
Enta_Nae_Mere Worse than the U.S. We have the 2nd amendment, 20% more GDP per capita, 'stand your ground', 'castle doctrine' and actually a better infrastructure for the poor than people give credit. Example of that last point: Salvation Army, local food banks, medicaid/medicare, scholarships, grants and various other resources. Yes, the system is limited, especially with 'universal housing' which we're lacking in and 'universal healthcare' which has a huge number of logistical issues that need to be resolved and can not just be further shoved onto the tax payer while further punishing doctors. The U.S., while heavily flawed, is better than most Europoor countries, if simply because of the 2nd amendment. A defenseless civilian is a civilian without rights.
manictiger The gun crime rates are far lower per 1,000 people in UK than US, the last time we had a school massacre we banned handguns and since that the US has continued to have multiple shootings a year
This video was really informative, thanks for making this. As a young adult previously not bothered about UK politics, I've become really interested in how our country is run, and stuff like this is really helpful!
***** Apparently, UKIP wouldn't let him resign, I can just picture him saying "Fuck this, I'm levaing", and they just block off the door to UKIP party HQ, chanting "no, you'll stay foreeeeverrrrrr"
The problem with the EU is that i don't like having laws set by people i didn't vote for nor do they even live or have ever been to the UK... I'm a country boy and so are the Conservatives, voting for Labour would have just fucked me and 90% of the people i know and, i'm not even slightly rich.
***** Personally, I'm terrified of not having the EU. They make sure minimum wages are decent by law, they give out grants to farmers in the UK just as they do to farmers in other countries, they protect our human rights. Basically they have very little effect on the British people BUT what they do is keep any future government we might have in line and stop them doing anything too destructive to the British people. I am curious why you think that the Conservatives are better for people in the country though. They might lift the ban on fox-hunting but I can't think of anything actually beneficial.
CorrosionMedia That makes no difference, the conservatives can't just make laws and send them through. Labour, Lib Dems, SNP will still get to vote on whether they go through.
Despite my little understanding of British politics, I really liked this video and completely agree on your point about the problems with the FPTP system. Great video Dan, I wouldn't mind seeing more ones like it!
You're wrong about the lords Dan. The lords is a much better system than a senate. It's a house of reform it doesn't produce or create any bill which can be passed solely in that house unlike a senate. The lords can only recommend the commons alter a bill and they can only delay a bill by two parliamentary terms. It's not always full of rich toffs. That's a lazy stereotype for you to use. The former speaker of the House of Commons Betty Boothroyd sits in the lords and she isn't some rich toff and she's made a number of statements and points in the lords in favour of keeping it, which I think make a lot of sense. If you wish to replace the lords with a senate then you must be willing to give that senate more power otherwise no one good will want to sit in it. Also if the senate is lead by a different party to that of the commons it may block moves made in the commons purely on a party basis, just to make the leading party in the commons look bad in the publics eyes. This is what they do in the states and it always leads to deadlock and very little getting done.
Dan, I don't know why but I just love to listen to you vent. It's so weird, I don't live in the UK, but I now think this topic is interesting. Just wanted to say that... and please keep making these videos where you just talk, I enjoy them! :D
Thentacle You do realise that Brexit does not affect current immigration laws for people who come from outside the EU where most migrants originate from...
Just a quick point for you Dan; if you don't like the Green Party's policy on nuclear power, you can propose to change it. Emails are going round the party at the minute for any member of the party, even those that, like me, were unable to vote in this election, to propose a policy or organisational change. If four other people will second your proposal, it will be discussed as a motion at the party conference. I personally like that we can affect the policy of the party, especially since we sometimes struggle to affect the policy of the government due to our voting system.
Mr. Hardcastle, I respect your support of left wing policies, I'm not going to say they're wrong. But suggesting that the Conservatives are the party of the rich is a little unfair. They are the party who created hundreds of thousands of new jobs to help the less well off in society... Even so, I am a Conservative supporter, but I don't generalise Labour to be the party of the poor, or generalise UKIP as racist. I don't support those parties through a generalised accusation. What's more, you are evidently politically aware, and I find your overarching generalisation of the Conservatives to be unfair.
RoyalTea Hundreds of thousands of jobs with 0 hour contracts? what about the massive growth we've seen in food banks, or the selling off of the NHS? Im sure this will be great for lower/middle class families.
RoyalTea 80% of jobs they created are in London. There are only 43 properties in the whole of London which are affordable for the average family. I wonder who most these jobs have been filled by? Is it possibly all of the above-average wage people? Yes.
RoyalTea A party which introduces tax cuts for the rich (the people who have more than enough money to survive) but raises VAT whilst simultaneously cutting benefits and public services for the poor (the people who have to use food banks to survive because they can't afford to buy their own food) makes them a party of the rich.
I entirely agree with you Dan. If we want change then we're going to have to do something about it. I also really like these more serious videos and it's really entertaining for me to watch.
Dan, I may disagree with some of the things you say, but thank you so much for discussing these issues in a very reasoned manner - rather than just shouting random expletives like many people seem to be doing on the internet currently. :/
I like watching these videos. In my public school I was never taught anything about Europe or anything other than what happens in America, so these videos are pretty informal for me, plus Dan is really funny :D
It's stupid how pretty much everywhere in Scotland SNP got majority, but just because England is big we have a leader we didn't vote for. I mean imagine how pissed off people in England would be if they had had a majority vote for SNP for only ONE seat, yet still had them as a government.
Michael Gove, the former education secretary, the one who couldn't even get GCSEs right, is the guy writing the British Bill of Rights. But he has previously come out in favour of the death penalty. So that's a thing...
We have a proportional representation system for the Scottish parliament. It is simple to understand and allows people to split their votes between as many people who are standing for their area. Anyone who isn't directly elected has the chance of being elected via a party list. Its a really good system and I wish that it had been adopted by the whole of the UK.

This was far from boring Dan, this summarised all of the angry thoughts bouncing around in my head this weekend far more succinctly than I ever could.

"right not to be punished for something that isn't illegal" forgetting you homework isn't illegal, but schools still punish you for that.
But school isn’t the government, and policies are a thing.
The conservatives want to hold a referendum to stay or leave the EU. This will be very important, and I hope people make the right choice.
VintageLJ we must stay
I think we will really be in the shit if people vote to leave the EU
We would be better off if we left the EU. Too many laws made by foreigners that overrule our laws. We would save billions.

A defenseless civilian is a civilian without rights.
manictiger The gun crime rates are far lower per 1,000 people in UK than US, the last time we had a school massacre we banned handguns and since that the US has continued to have multiple shootings a year
Hah I think the leave campaign probably broke that broken promises record
Ryan Garrett 12hrs is greater than -12hrs,
This video was really informative, thanks for making this. As a young adult previously not bothered about UK politics, I've become really interested in how our country is run, and stuff like this is really helpful!
How have I just found this? HARDCASTLE 2022! All jokes aside, I didn't realize how intelligent Dan actually is.
Lol
Scotland's got it together now only if we were independent
FireFraction Your streets will be paved with gold, your heads will be even more massive, and you'll be as powerful as Estonia.
scotsmanRS Because the difference between your average Scot and your average Englishman is so monumental...
Nigel farage resigned :DDDDDDDDDD
KingDogeLeaderOfTacos HERE'S NIGE!
***** Apparently, UKIP wouldn't let him resign, I can just picture him saying "Fuck this, I'm levaing", and they just block off the door to UKIP party HQ, chanting "no, you'll stay foreeeeverrrrrr"
Hopefully he'll leave the country, then be denied back in by the other UKIP supporters >:)
Hopefully he'll leave this plane of existence.
"The EU is very important". If only you knew the future.
Thx for helping me on my essay about this whole thing
A fucking smart car has enough seats to contain the representatives of 2 entire parties :D
The problem with the EU is that i don't like having laws set by people i didn't vote for nor do they even live or have ever been to the UK... I'm a country boy and so are the Conservatives, voting for Labour would have just fucked me and 90% of the people i know and, i'm not even slightly rich.
***** "...i don't like having laws set by people i didn't vote for..." Now you know how the people who didn't vote conservative feel.
"Laws set by people I didn't vote for" so you don't vote for your MEP? (member of European Parliament)
CorrosionMedia Slight difference between other people voting for them in this country and literally NO ONE voting for the bureaucrats in the EU
CorrosionMedia That makes no difference, the conservatives can't just make laws and send them through. Labour, Lib Dems, SNP will still get to vote on whether they go through.
Anddddd its about to be enforced, ffs
Mixing skittle flavours is illegal? Time to make money, anyone interested meet me in an alley near you. And bring money. =,=
Nerd3 for Global Logic Counsellor! Finally someone who can fight back the tides of people who say "If you have nothing to hide..."
Despite my little understanding of British politics, I really liked this video and completely agree on your point about the problems with the FPTP system. Great video Dan, I wouldn't mind seeing more ones like it!
I wanted labor to win
Astrokid labour*
Astrokid i want UKIP to win
Hircine Aye...
Astrokid I wanted the party party to win..
So Official NerdCubed didn't actually move to Canada?
Apparently so. 'Twas a big conspiracy. Unless maybe...England is really in Canada...and all the world maps are a LIE!!!
He might have but he is still a British citizen so he can still vote
Lone Stranger yeah I wonder why he lied, do you think he just wanted some time off RUclips?
monkeyzip yeah but he said local area and he only talks in pounds
Maybe he moved to one of the Channel Islands then
It's so interesting hearing you talk about politics, even though I'm not from the UK. Keep making this videos
Dan, I don't know why but I just love to listen to you vent. It's so weird, I don't live in the UK, but I now think this topic is interesting. Just wanted to say that... and please keep making these videos where you just talk, I enjoy them! :D
"The EU is so goddamned important"
Heh heh, yeah about that...
Thank God for Brexit... Keep the muslims out!
Thentacle You do realise that Brexit does not affect current immigration laws for people who come from outside the EU where most migrants originate from...
Yeah but hes on about the refugees fleeing into europe, then once in europe being able to freely travel around it.
FPtP is the worst system ever...
Lukas Saunders What about raffle?
Why would you dis like this
cool husam Tory Voters... :|
Dan is one of the few you tubers who i have seen who is sane in his politics, and in his moral principles.
i vote for anarchy in the uk
Oh? Who is the anarchy canidate?
I vote democracy!
RUclips PLAYS COMMONS
Woooo! Sex Pistols
Calum Elsdon Sorry, what? (I've never listened to Sex Pistols, I got this off Twitch)
Anarchy in the UK it's a song by the Sex Pistols it's one of the biggest Punk Rock songs
Sorry UKIP is not racist i don't agree with you
Morgan Johnson "Bongo bongo land". That is all.
***** Yeah, but it's the racist/homophobic/sexist people in UKIP that are contributing to the party.
I agree, UKIP and its policies are not racist and right now its what Britain needs.
CorrosionMedia and where is "bongo bongo land" ?
***** According to Godfrey Bloom, probably Africa. In reality, Lenny Henry's family comes from Jamaica and he was born in Dudley, West Midlands.
And who do you think the "less well off" work for?
That's right.
The rich people.
RoyalTea left is for collectivist (''security'') right is for individuals (freedom)
so i am on the right
I liked the description, and do very much agree with it.
Thanks Dan, for being a strong voice in a world of whimpers! Dan for MP! Oh wait, he can't be controlled, he'll never get in...
I'm Irish but I will share with you some pearls of wisdom. From my point of view your only option is to launch a violent and bloody rebellion
And this is why I will be moving to Antartica. No government problems and no nuclear war fear.
That settles it, next election I'm voting for the Nerd³ Party
I entirely agree with you Dan. If we want change then we're going to have to do something about it. I also really like these more serious videos and it's really entertaining for me to watch.
Well, I mean...
You could...
Start a Revolution?
You know who doesn't have this problem? Absolute monarchies... come on Elizabeth, we know you can do it!
You have my complete support dan! Do whatever it takes to voice your opinion and ill be shouting behind you!
I am so glad I watched this I have learnt so much about my government and how they are really bad at being a government.
As an American teenage boy, I actually understood this. Nice work, Dan.
Dan, I may disagree with some of the things you say, but thank you so much for discussing these issues in a very reasoned manner - rather than just shouting random expletives like many people seem to be doing on the internet currently. :/
Its hilarious to watch his videos back on 2x speed.
Someone who's voice people listen to saying the things I already say but no one will hear. Thanks for using your position to get this message out.
This, to me, was another Democracy 3 video. I like it
Judge dread knows all the laws.
I lost it at: "5 years. five fhhh..." *squeaky noise*
Strong and Stable....... Dont worry Dan, a few more years to go....
Never have truer words been spoken
Dan, your government was already acting like 1984 for YEARS before this....
Michael Gove, the former education secretary, the one who couldn't even get GCSEs right, is the guy writing the British Bill of Rights. But he has previously come out in favour of the death penalty. So that's a thing...
orwell is kicking himself in his grave yelling:
1984 was supposed to be a warning, not an instruction manual !
We have a proportional representation system for the Scottish parliament. It is simple to understand and allows people to split their votes between as many people who are standing for their area. Anyone who isn't directly elected has the chance of being elected via a party list. Its a really good system and I wish that it had been adopted by the whole of the UK.
Australia's government is wanting it to be the 1930's again. Moving to Canada is becoming an even more appealing idea.
Totally agree. Glad to know we share similar thoughts on this.
