Programme Note (written by Megan DiGeorgio):
“like a whisper, like a rope explores the concepts of space and place, which became simultaneously very important and unimportant during the Covid-19 pandemic (important because of social/physical distancing, the initial lack of ability to travel, and the wildly differing guidelines in regards to the pandemic depending on location, but unimportant because of our collective utilization and discovery of alternative methods of connecting with one another). I was inspired by the fact that the two artists that form Duo Entre-Nous are based in completely different areas, yet make music together at an incredibly high level. To this end, the piece includes elements of spatialization and physical movement throughout the performance space on the part of the performers. The electronic elements are drawn from recordings that the players themselves have made, both playing and speaking, as well as sounds from outer space itself, from NASA’s library. The piece is designed to open up questions about these ideas of space and place, but not necessarily to answer them."
