I saved an old buffet, with a drawer missing, and a glass hutch exactly like yours, from a burn pile in the backyard of a yardsale i went to several years ago. I hosed them down and let them dry, then refinished them. I have the glass hutch in my very large bathroom being used to display my guest towels and cloths with a few antique pieces of pottery and crocks with handmade soaps from an amish farm, prewrapped toothbrushes and old mason jars with lids and clasps holding cotton swabs and balls, and small flower and greenery displays throughout. I have a large window that allows me to put a few ivy plants on top of the hutch. It really gives it a spa feel in there. I have the buffet in my dining room. I replaced the drawer guides where the drawer was gone with a thin piece of good plywood and i use that space for tablecloths and doilies. They are beautiful conversation pieces and add way more charm and sense of home than anything i could buy brand new. Times are so hard today, give folks a chance to salvage what you deem to be trash. Please consider having an indoor sale once the true yucks are cleaned up. Maybe pick those two rooms separated by the bifold doors, to stage the old furniture and milk glass and dishes and let people come make you an offer and let the proceeds go towards the house. There are far more artistic, penny pinching, lovers of old than you may think!

The removal of the brush in front has made such a difference. A beautiful piece of architecture.

I would LOVE being the one on the floor finding little treasures, albeit with a ton of trash and dirt-but that's just part of the process!! My husband cleaned out old houses, barns, and whatever was asked of him. Those were in his younger to mid-years when something old was worth selling to get the monetary value instead. He told me about all the neat things he had found. I have always thought of having someone ask me to help them do cleanouts, but living in Mass. my chances were slim to none. He grew up in the heart of the White Mountains of N.H.. He had friends everywhere. Older folk would call him to come and save them from those old dusty things that needed getting rid of. People inheriting homes were happy to make room for more modern living, such utter foolishness !!! I happened upon your first video and I was enthralled, anticipating what would be around the next corner under all those piles of stuff. My husband and I will be watching avidly from our home in NH waiting to see your lives change as you go through the up and downs of your latest adventure...good luck !!!

Check the things you find to see if it is worth anything. The bottom of the glass wear you can Google see if it's valuable before you get rid of it. I would hold on to that Bible though, hold on to it and do some research before you decide what you want to do with it. Keep them masks on and stay safe, please. Great job so far!

It is a beautiful home. I would suggest wearing some disposable booties and maybe Tyvek suits while you are decluttering. Especially when you start in the kitchen. I saw those QST magazines when you entered the house the first time. I assume the previous owner was a ham radio operator. My father had those same magazines. I don't know if they are worth anything, but you could ask around. Fun times! I look forward to seeing the progression.

Could the wood be cypress? It is impervious to insects and rarely rots. It was used a great deal in the 19th century here in the south.

Looks like your house has the "fake fireplaces" just like ours in CT. These were dressed areas of the chimney that one could install a flue to from a coal or wood burner - later a gas one could be retro-fitted. We have 2 of these from when the house was remodeled in 1840's. One may be able to install a real fireplace or insert in the 1rst floor unit. Great fun seeing your progress.
