Teaching your kids to love themselves at a young age is probably one of the best things you can ever do as a parent or grandparent. You are doing a fantastic job teaching that
I couldn't agree more. My parents were surprised that I didn't make much time for them as I grew older. How much affection can you hold for people who repeatedly told you that you were so ugly that no one would ever want to marry you? Why spend time with those who insult you? (When I finally learned to look at a mirror without flinching, I could see that they were wrong, but it took years. I'm not pretty now, I'm a pensioner, but I think I probably was in my youth - I've no photos, so I can't be sure.) Keep telling them how wonderful they are and how beautiful they look.
I love the little princess’s hair both ways and thank you for showing both Natural Hair and hair with weave she is absolutely beautiful ❤❤#loveournaturalhair❤
I do love this style with her natural hair.I respect how you handle the comments with dialogue that begins a conversation for growth for everyone. Most RUclipsrs either ignore or become defensive.
Absolutely agree with you! I always compliment my daughter on her natural hair and teach her to love herself and her skin (she's brown) and I've been doing this from a very very young age because when she was about 5 she thought blonde hair blue eyes was beautiful and perfect and didn't see how beautiful she is and now she lovessss her hair, she'd rather her natural hair braided than having extensions and I love this x
I love when kids think that other skin tones/hair/eyes are beautiful. My daughter is brunette and the first time she recognized skin tone she was about 2-3 years old. It was Disney's Soul movie and Joe was her fancy. Not any other character. She kept saying Joe was beautiful. Then last year she started making cute smalltalk with various black men in public about how she liked their shoes, shirt and just wanted to talk. I could see some were uncomfortable, scared or just weirded out that some Lil white girl wanted to talk to them. Then she tried to play with girls on the playground and they would just stand and stare at here without talking back. My daughter just loves people. I personally hope that she marries an Idris Alba type God fearing man when she grows up. Lol. My husband just laughs at me. He hopes that no matter skin type that the man is God fearing.
As a mother, my children have full creative freedom to do what they want to their hair. During the summer, I let them explore more, but as long as they love it, that’s all that matters to me. My older daughters are 11 & 10. The both asked for perms, and now my oldest wants to go back to being natural. I’m 100% fine with that. My children are at an age where they are learning their style and are maturing in their personalities. I won’t keep them from that.
In this day and age where girls are under so much external pressure to be an unrealistic definition of beautiful, you've done very well to teach your daughters to see their own God-given beauty. It will go a long way in their self-esteem and self confidence as they grow into strong, independent, beautiful women.
I use to be a braider. I am now retired. I really appreciate that you did a video about this. You are a great teacher. Keep on doing what you do and the blessings are sure to continue coming to you and your family. Her hair looks beautiful and she has a great length. GOD BLESS ❤😊❤
I love everything you had to say about people letting the parents be the ones to worry about what hairstyles are too “grown” for their kids. A lot of the same people that have so much to say about how our little girls wear their hair (or in the case of Blue Ivy, their earrings) are the same ones that get frustrated with their own children for acting like children instead of mini adults.
I say this each time but I love your channel. Your talent is amazing. I don’t understand why people feel the need to be jerks. Guess I just love people so much that I can’t comprehend it. And you are so spot on with all you say. Any type of heritage is so unique and beautiful and we all need to shine in our own skin. Hugs to you and all your family of subscribers.❤
This came out so beautiful, i seen nothing wrong with the first but I’m so happy that she likes both 🙌🏽🙌🏽 thank you for teaching her to love her hair, also my hair is the exact same… it grows in thick so it usually takes me about 10 minutes to fully get my hair & scalp wet to start the washing process. It takes me 21/2-31/2 hours each wash day depending on how long it’s been since the previous wash
Honestly I love both styles with added hair and without. I think it's cute when kids have extensions it just depends on the style that they have for that particular age, I don't think people should judge you for putting extensions in kids hair, your a professional you know what you are doing and the hair ALWAYS comes out so cute!!! 🥰 So good job! 😊
You made a lot of good points. It is the parents choice. I remember having my hair braided as a child. They did feel like the box braids were pulling lost a lot of hair. Often they’d grab my edges way too tight. Edges thin or almost gone. A lot of braiders don’t practice proper hair care, if the person may have health issues, actually trying to improve the health of the hair. That’s why I like your channel. You inform teach
I CANNOT wait to have a girl! I can’t wait to have these memories of doing her hair and loving her and making sure she knows she’s loved and beautiful inside and out.
I 100% agree leave the kids out of it! I’ve personally always loved your work! I need to get back in your chair! 😅😅😅 Beautiful work per usual and client 😊!
My daughter is 2 so I have a long way before school picture day but I looooove the idea of making sure keep her hair natural and in a cute natural style for picture days in the future! Even though she’s 2 she loves her bubbles and beads. She loves her hair and we make sure we tell her consistently how beautiful she is.
*I never understood the obsession with us not having our hair down or hair added that shows length🤦🏽♀️ Even as a child I looked around me and saw my Mexican•Chinese•White friends who had long hair that they wore down every day and they were still just little elementary school girls like I was. By 6th grade I stopped asking😆😆Either way, hair added or just 100% natural this style looks good❤* #themaintyourkids 😆 #relaxersbreakoffmorehairthanbraids
Agreed. When I was little, I never understood why my black friends never wore their hair down. I had one classmate that I remember would tell her clique that they needed to stop being nappy and at least put their hair in a pony. "Part it, do a small braid, something! Just get it up" she said in class one day. I asked her why and she told me I was too white to understand. But in another class I would watch fellow classmate by the name of Toye Neely braid her hair everyday. Two braids. I want to do my daughters hair, but we are 1-2a hair type, and I find it hard to do elastics and tiny twists and braids, but I'm gonna do it one day! I had a friend of my mom's one time put my hair in braids and beaded in I think 1979-80 that I've been obsessed with as an adult. It's a great core memory, and the first time, my hair was ever done. I felt beautiful, happy, and free. I want my daughter to have that experience, too. She loves beaded hair, too.
If your child has edges and their hair looks healthy, then you're clearly doing something right. I see so many kids and women with hair styles so tight they can barely blink. Pulling does not make the style look better and does not guarantee it will last longer. I love the way you styled your daughters hair. And from the previous styles picture, that style looks great too. I'm not a fan of putting weave in children's hair because of the uncomfortable styles I see many kids with in my daily life and from my personal traumatic experiences of tight hair styles as a child. But the way you did your daughters was perfect. It looked super cute for a little girl, and you can see it's not pulling or heavy. So sorry you have to experience the negativity associated with being on social media. Love how you addressed that so gracefully without going to their level. I'm new to your channel and a new subscriber. I can't wait to watch more of your videos for ideas on how to style my daughter's hair and my own. Thank you!💐💕
Hi love, thanks for the kind words and expressing your thoughts on the matter. Welcome to my channel, I hope to keep inspirations coming that you can take away from 🫶🏾
You always do the dang thing thank you for sharing both ways always beautiful 😍 😊❤🙏🏽💪🏽I learned to love my hair older in life 30 ish I'm 55 now and loving it even more ❤
I agree with you on both ends my daughter is 10 going on 11 next both and she love her natural hair she loves her curls but she also loves braids and her ponytails, its all about how we as parents feed into that they are beautiful inside and out I also did the samething for my boys when they was younger .
i love both looks, i guess it just depends on what you are looking for. The first would be like for school, wedding something special just a overall fuller look that last longer. And the second would be like a summer time hair do for maybe swimming and things like that. But she is beautiful either way
I think you are doing a great job. I love your videos and you can tell you are very skilled in your work and it’s beautiful the things you are able to do with hair. Your daughter is naturally beautiful and she looks healthy and well and from one mom to another I think you are doing a wonderful job based off that observation. Thank you for uploading your videos. I don’t braid or do hair at all, I just love your videos bc your work is beautiful and it’s satisfying to see the end result!
I’m always going to see you as a PRO, in your given talent! My daughter is biracial and has gorgeous curly hair! But since she entered middle school, she asked me for braids w/extensions! And I didn’t see anything wrong with that! Now she’s 36 and still gets her hair braided! That’s what she likes! Keep doing your girl’s hair how you see fit! I think you do a great job with their hair styles!!
I like her hair both ways❤ me personally I get braids a lot with added in hair because to me it looks fuller, longer and nicer. And when I get tired of braids I wear my natural hair down
I was in boarding school from grade 1 but my school didn't allow hair extensions, straightening, colouring etc for whatever reason but since my hair was super thin and fragile (it was relaxed) my stylist had to add extensions to my hair to do simple cornrows that'll last. She had to be sneaky and use the tiniest bit but it made my hair easier to grip and it didn't unravel at all which was a major problem I had. People should mind their own and do what they feel is right for their kids and not be quick to give their opinion to other parents because of their beliefs. If it wasn't for those occasional extensions on my hair, I'd have to have gotten it done often which wasn't financially feasible and I absolutely hated having my hair touched as a child so don't take it to heart. To each their own. There's nothing wrong with hair extensions on kids, as long as it's done right
I am shedding tears watching this video, this is exactly what is happening btw me and my 8yrs old daughter,we relocated to Europe last August, before now she makes her hair at a salon in my country but on getting here i have been the one making her hair, she usually ask me why can't she carry her hair to school like her white classmates?why must i make her hair with extensions everytime😢 I have decided now to be making her hair without extension except if there's a special occasions. At this point the people that keep sexualizing childrens hairstyles need to get a life. they must be coming at you hard on this and I am so sorry about that, you have mentioned it in too many videos now. Your work as always is great, and if a parent wants their kids to have a certain hairstyle then so be it. geesh keyboard warriors are annoying.
I agree that it is important to teach our black and brown girls to love themselves as they are. I like that you said you celebrate the natural hair on occasions like picture day. In my experience of doing young girls' hair, I have found that adding hair makes the styles last longer with some hair textures, so I have used it for some younger children.
🇧🇷🇧🇷 The big mystery of all is: how does the hairdresser gets to do her job without breaking her nails. Are the nails real? Plus, sometimes , I think some clients goes through a real little torture. 🇧🇷
Such a cutie I also feel same I like to do my daughters hair with both if I use extensions sometimes the next round I go with natural. What product do you suggest for natural twist that help them last
people kill me with all their unnecessary opinions. What is the difference between a protective style on a child and a protective style on an adult? If the mother and father say okay add extensions to prolong the style why is it anyone else's business. I think if a person wants to see someone else's child with a different hair style then they should pay and keep paying for said hair style. if not let people do what they must with their child.
Hi Duchess. Thank you for doing this video. I have a 6 year old daughter with very THICK and long 4c type hair and I do not add any hair when doing hairstyles. I also have a 10 year old daughter and I always try my best to encourage them to wear their natural hair which they loves to do. I sometimes add hair extensions to my oldest daughter's hair particularly during summer break because she goes to the pool a lot and also both her and her sister take swimming lessons year-round. Do you have any recommendations for a light weight hair extension brand I can use when doing braids?
As long as the hairstyle is child appropriate I don’t see anything wrong with adding extensions cause extensions don’t make a child look older the style does if it’s an adult hairstyle or age inappropriate hairstyle for a child, I personally would only add extensions if absolutely necessary, I wouldn’t want my kid to become dependent on weave/extensions thinking they can only look nice or cute with it, I want them to love and appreciate their natural hair and use weave/extensions to change it up sometimes or to add length or thickness but not become too dependent on it like a armor
I probably gonna ask my mom if she can try and do this hairstyle to me because it is a really cute protective style and ever since I got to California I have a weave and child I need a break from that
Teaching your kids to love themselves at a young age is probably one of the best things you can ever do as a parent or grandparent. You are doing a fantastic job teaching that
Thank you! It really is!
I couldn't agree more. My parents were surprised that I didn't make much time for them as I grew older.
❤ looks great 🙌
As long as the hairstyle is child appropriate I don’t see anything wrong with adding extensions cause extensions don’t make a child look older the style does if it’s an adult hairstyle or age inappropriate hairstyle for a child, I personally would only add extensions if absolutely necessary, I wouldn’t want my kid to become dependent on weave/extensions thinking they can only look nice or cute with it, I want them to love and appreciate their natural hair and use weave/extensions to change it up sometimes or to add length or thickness but not become too dependent on it like a armor
I probably gonna ask my mom if she can try and do this hairstyle to me because it is a really cute protective style and ever since I got to California I have a weave and child I need a break from that
Natural will always be more beautiful because that's the way God created us. We need to stop being ashamed of who we are. God knows best!
Gorgeous ❤
This is such a cute style! Is it only for kids?
BEAUTIFUL ❤❤❤
