After losing my twin brother (we were born on Christmas Eve), then losing my parents, it has been a LOT of years of Christmas grief. This year, both of my children, and my husband were here on Christmas Eve, and Christmas day. This has been the best holiday I have had since 2001. No crying, no dwelling on the empty chairs, just the joy of Christmas together.

Hi Mary. So sorry for your loss. I lost my husband 5 years ago December 7 to cancer and my mother is 88 years old with heart failure. And YES PTSD is very real related to the loss of loved ones which seems to go unnoticed by others. I sincerely wish I could give you helpful advice but I'm still fighting my way out of this dark place. I will pray for you and trust in God to restore peace and happiness in your life. Take care God loves you. 💞

I never really share how a feel around this time of year. But I just started watching you guys towards the end of this year. I’m 21 years old and I’ve been struggling with depression and anxiety since I was 12 after my father passed away. I went through so much in treatment treatment and so many mental hospitals from 13-15 I was finally able to control my thoughts then my mother passed away in the same month of my father did. I was 17. Thank god I had met the love of my life though we’ve been together for 6 years now. But of course around Halloween and the rest of the year I really have a hard time because me and my mom loved the holidays. You guys have kept the hope and joy in it this year, as well help me try to get back on a track with the lord. I love you guys so much and thank you!!!!!!

So glad you all enjoyed Christmas. We had our Christmas Day on the 26th December last year and this year, as our daughter works at a care home, so we have made that our new tradition for the time being. We treat the 25th as our Christmas Eve, getting food cooked and presents under the tree. December is an extremely hard month, as my dad died suddenly and his anniversary is the 3rd and my mum passed away from Breast cancer and her anniversary is on the 30th. There is only myself, hubby, son and daughter now, I miss the big family christmases so much, but I am also so very thankful that I have my small family to enjoy life with. Wishing every one a peaceful, happy and healthy 2020. Xxx

In our family we give each person their presents in a pile and then we start with the youngest who opens one gift. Then the next person opens one, and it goes around the room until a new round starts. That way each person can show every one what they got and express their thanks. It takes longer to open all the gifts but we dont have to wonder what each person got and we can clean up paper and ribbons as we go to keep the house clean.

Merry Christmas to you all!!! So sweet! Loved watching your happy family open their gifts and see the joy on the kids’ faces, what a privilege to watch! Growing up as an only child In a small family with a birthday on December 23rd, everything was done in 48 hours! Lol! I love my Birthday this time of year but now as an adult, I love celebrating Jesus’ Birthday even more! I had the best Birthday and Christmas this year in years and I’m truly so thankful and humbled! My family traditions growing up were stockings then gifts, we would open our gifts one at a time (just 3 of us, small but quaint and fun!) and take turns. It was fabulous! This year, My family and I enjoyed our best Christmas in years!! it’s been a rough year with many health struggles, a hospital stay for me, my upcoming major surgery next month, and 2 deaths in our family the last 2 months so we made it a point to go all out-being happy and celebrating as much as we could! which we haven’t done in years! Decorating, gifts, Christmas Brunch, etc!!! We did it all! It was so much fun and such a joyful, relaxing day! We’ve had very lean Christmases in the past so we didn’t feel bad about doing this one up completely! But we know that’s not the case for everyone so we made sure to give as much as we could, too. Donating to charities and doing things for our closest friends and donating through our church as well. I absolutely loved giving!!! It was absolutely incredible ! And I loved receiving some lovely and useful. Sophisticated gifts as well (gifts are different at 36 and I love that!). I love spoiling others and being spoiled. This time of year is the perfect time to do that! All your Vlogmas posts have been wonderful and such a delight to watch and I truly appreciate your hard work. Please enjoy your break! You definitely need and deserve it. Merry Christmas Sommers Family, enjoy!! All the best for the new year! 🤗🎄🙏🏻

When I was a youngster, we would eat breakfast 1st, then we sat in front of the tree, then 1 person each year was appointed to pass gifts out to 1 person at a time. That person opens up gift then the next person got a gift, and so on, then stockings were last ... In my household now with grandson living with us, we still appoint 1 person to pass out ALL gifts to everyone. Each person opens gifts at their pace within 15 minutes (depending on many each 1 has). Sdtockings were 1st b4 gifts. Then we all help children open packages to play with toys, etc. Then we have a few hours of playtime among the family. Then women in the kitchen preparing holiday meal.

We pass out everyone’s gifts and then open them one at a time. We have so many handmade gifts, the giver really wants to see the reactions. For the kids we also code their gifts so they dont know who they are for! This year our 4 kids all had states written on their gift. In their stocking was a code to figure out their starting state and then all their gifts were states that touch each other on a map. They loved it. Last year we did articles of clothing, and the secret was that each kid fit a category like hats, pants, coats and we used creative names for those items like cap, beanie, fedora. They LOVE the anticipation of guessing the code and each year we have to step it up a notch now that they are almost all teenagers.

Stockings first, then presents one at a time, so we could see what everyone received. With our grandchildren things changed one year for us. Our daughter’s mother-in-law said she was talking to a friend about Christmas and what they did. Her friend said they gave each child 3 gifts each since that what baby Jesus received from the 3 Wise Men. That made an impression on me and that’s what we began to do. Thank you for sharing you Christmas with us. Happy New Year! 😃

On Christmas Day, trad in my husbands family (since his childhood) to gather the presents to and from each other into a huge box. After a traditional Christmas Dinner, it's time for the grand opening ceremony. Children excited! Whoever picks a present out of the box reads the gift tag, passes it to that person, then after the person has opened their gift and given thanks, it's their turn to pick a present out of the box and so on.

I don't remember Christmas when my parents were together. They separated when I was in the 3rd grade. I only remember the last Christmas I had with my mom before she passed away in 03. I barely remember Christmas after that with my dad's family. My mom past when I was 17. Now that I'm an adult iam spending Christmas with my mom's Aunt and her two grown kids and their families. So they would be my great Aunt and 2nd and 3rd cousins that I spend Christmas with. Merry belated Christmas Somers family and Happy People. Happy New years to everyone as well. God bless. Hope y'all have a wonderful and blessed week and weekend. Sending love and hugs from the central coast of Cali.

Thank you for sharing your Christmas with us. In our family we start with the youngest and open one present at a time. There are only three of us now. We just take our time, listen to christmas music, and drink hot cocoa and we don't worry about time. It's very fun and relaxing. Then we take naps and play with our new things and call long distance family members, watch Christmas movies... it's really wonderful! 💜

The Brandt home visit really stood out. It was really great to see this family get to move into their home. I wish them the best in the new year.

When we woke up in the morning, "santa" would leave one gift on our bed in the morning. We would open that one up and then wake up the parents and run out to the tree. We had a large pile and tore through everything. haha My parents blessed us with a lot on Christmas. They still do!!

Thank you Somers family for doing this. Ive had the most difficult and sad holiday of my entire 35 years but every night I had you 5 to watch and I could escape for 20 minutes. This video was especally nice seeing the kiddos joy made me smile when I really didn't think I could. You may be an average family in Alaska but u bring me joy and a feeling like I'm part of your family so I hope the new changes don't effect you.
To answer your questions I was an only child so Christmas was kinda just a frenzy like Bert's. However when my step family got into the mix we would pass a gift to each person and then open them one person at a time and show the gift to the group. It made it last longer and feel more like a group.
The parts I like most about your videos is the Alaska specific topics, the family gatherings/outings and just a general vlog on your day to day.
Again thank you for taking the time to make these videos and especially vlogmas, I got to feel that little Christmas sparkle this year because of you all.
    Love and God Bless,

In our home the first thing they kids do on Christmas is santas gift ( not wrapped) then once they play with them for awhile they open stockings. After we eat Breakfast then open the rest of the gifts. This year we didnt get to Breakfast till 9am and the kids were up at 7am. We didnt finished opening gifts till close to noon. We do Christmas dinner on Christmas day so that always follows. Its a whole day affair and I love it!

Stockings..Breakfast as a family around the table..We make sure everyone has one and we all open while watching, saying thank you and giving a hug to every gave it to us... then maybe do another round and then we leave the rest and go help make supper and get all that sorted and then go back and do another round etc, then usually family will comeover and we do another round or two and then we have supper, do the rest of the gifts and then play a different family board game or card game or something. but we try to spread the gift opening out over the entire day of christmas

This is how we have always done it since we where little kids. Hope you had a great Christmas.

We celebrate on christmas eve in Sweden, santa will arrive with presents in his sack and knock on the door. Then he will stay and read us the rhymes and give out the packages. When all packages are delivered he will leave again and maybe have some rice porridge and milk that we left for him on the door step. How packages are opened varies form year to year, sometimes we jusrt gather everything santa hands out and sometimes we just open, depends on how many we are. This year we just opened because there were 22 people there so opening one at a time would have taken ages...

one year I made a master list for all the presents (with a number and who it belonged to) so no one could shake the present early and guess what it was. Unfortunately I accidentally left the master list at home!! It ended up being one of the funniest Christmas'es we ever had trying to get each person their presents lol!!! That was long ago. This last few years has been really lonely with my parents gone and everyone else moved away now and I spent some time being sad. Watching the happiness you guys share really made my holiday because I see the look on Jessica's face as she watches to see if the kids liked what they bought...I remember those times.
