- Prior to WWII Adolph Hitler met with Neville Chamberlain who was on a peace mission. No deal was reached but an incredible tale emerged that still remains in debate today about a soldier named Henry Tandey.
#Hilter #WWII #HenryTandey
If we’re going to blame this guy, then by that logic we should blame his mother for carrying him, the doctor for delivering him, any babysitters, the grocery store clerks for selling food to him his whole childhood…
…you don’t shoot an injured soldier who isn’t a threat. Henry couldn’t have known. It would’ve been a murder on his conscience.
It's not the same, they were at war, such were sparing ennemies was common but not a rule at all.
If he was more angry that day he would have taken the shot for sure, it's just luck that spared him.
I would not have shot hitler in the moment. I would have had no idea, and shooting a wounded kid is morally incorrect.
That time he was just like every other German, Austria Hungary soldier in that time, following orders of the Austria hungrian emperor (hes born Austria Citizen)
@@MISTSHIFTGaming that’s what I’m saying. If I didn’t know, I would never shoot him
@@MISTSHIFTGaming He was an Austrian-Hungarian citizen but he fought for the German Empire.
Hitler was not a kid in ww1
@@tylerhodges11That is correct. He was 29 in 1918.
Poor Tandy he tried doing a good thing . And should not be blamed . Hitler was evil Tandy wasn't.
At the time Hitler hadn't done anything evil 😈 yet .....
I'm sure if he knew he would have pulled the trigger without hesitation . There is no way to see into the future. Tandy was a brave veteran just for being in that hellish war.
He didn't know he was going to turn into a monster we can all learn from hindsight
The British soldier was part of a squad clearing a French village after the British artillery strike. Stirling rounded the corner of a building, found a wounded unarmed German soldier crawling on the ground and bleeding heavily. Stirling pointed his gun at the man, the German looked up at him and held his arm in front of his face waiting for the end. Stirling was overcome with pity and left the German to crawl away. Chamberlain looked up British army records and discovered the identity of the soldier who was still alive. The soldier confirmed Hitler's story to Chamberlain. The old British soldier never knew the man he let escape was Hitler until Chamberlain told him
Everyone can have huge impact on this world, good and bad, intentional and unintentional. What burns is trying to do good and having a bad result.
“Let’s not tell anyone about that.”--Tandy
Even if he did fire and killed Hitler, I feel like there would've been an even worse person to take Hitler's place. I understand that this is in the past, but I feel like the universe would still make the atrocities of the Second World War happen. That's morbid, I know. But I just have that feeling, you know?
The Hitler incident never took place and is unfortunate that the story perpetuates as it distracts from Tandey's courage.
Henry Tandy was a very brave man who was awarded the Military Medal, Distinguished Conduct Medal and Victoria Cross for acts of extreme gallantry and absolute courage.
I wouldn't say it takes any glory from him. Id even say that not killing a wounded defenseless soldier is a good thing to do. It was very unlucku that the spared german was Hitler, but , since he couldn't have known what the random person he decided not to shoot that day would have become one of the worst dictators known to mank8nd, in the moment it was a right thing to do.
Even there are at least 100 clips on youtube about the Hitler-Tandy episode.
This did never happen.
That's my great great uncle
I wonder how Henry Tandy felt about this in later life.
This never happened. Adolf was a trench runner and how would the Brit even know who he was or Adolf know Tandy?

Lies never listen to goverments
all of those pictures were AI bruh
Ah I think this story is pump up with a little bit of bullshit now

Daamn! No good deed goes unpunished..
the world we're living in
Greatest hero without even knowing
No one is inherently born evil. Even a young Hitler initially displayed love for his country and lacked significant influence, power, or radical idealism. However, it was the turbulent circumstances of war, his growing anger and disillusionment, coupled with his exposure to extremist ideologies, that contributed to his transformation. In essence, he succumbed to the dark forces that surrounded him, emphasizing the role of external factors in shaping his actions and beliefs.
Yeah….well 😮
Hitler didn’t act alone , their were any number of contentious psychopaths more than able to replace Adolph Hitler !!!😮
Chamberlain did not return from Munich empty-handed. He got an agreement that postponed WWII by a year, allowing the Brits to prepare. If Hitler hadn't launched the Second World War another German would have. They were furious with how they were treated at the Paris Peace Conference.
That was the Munich agreement over peace and the Czech sudetenland. This was earlier in history.
Hitler's unit was 50 miles from where it was supposed to have occurred and also Hitler was on leave during the period states Tandy's biographer. And the painting showed s scene from 1914 - not 1918.....
If I came here today from the distant future, and told you that this kid was going to grow up into a ruthless tyrant. That he would write among the darkest pages in all our history and leave a trail of blood we may never be able to come to terms with. Could you then shoot that kid?
Darkest chapter winner belongs to Mao
I would have appreciated that response from Mr Hitler and would have told him so because he did not know the future events that were to happen
It was Tandy's Destiny.😢
Life found a way.
…and hindsight is always 20/20.
Kinda cool that he was a soldier before becoming a politician unlike most today

well I was taught about a dilemma I think, it was "would you kill Hitler by going back in time and when he was an infant?" knowing the acts he would commit in the future. my opinion was no, since he did not commit crime yet and changing events will change history of course, for better or for worse, no one knows. Hitler was just the same as any of us, just that he took things further as a natural politician, everyone has different talents, Hitlers shined during his rule.
We don't know the person who would have taken Hitler's place, the irrationality of Hitler was of great benefit to us the next guy could have devoted everything to building nuclear weapons and then started WW2.
What's the mystery... It's just a regular German soldier at that moment
Ah completely AI history content and writing and naration how fun.
If he would have taken the shot he would have been deemed psychotic and a murderer
If true then Tandy might have saved the planet from destruction .
How would Hitler have known his name at all?
Not Tandys' fault.
No knowledge, no guilt.
It doesn't sound true!
How did he know it was him ?
Urban legend.
"The darkest chapter the world has ever know". Nope. This is how people forget history so easily.
Universal course or some other devine intervention
I don't think henry had a crystal ball
Seems predestined..
If only britian had brains
What's that supposed to mean?
Britian had more brains than most
You mean the country that brought you penicillin and the Industrial revolution among many other innovations?
Why would he lie about that? Probably would have lived a more peaceful life without people harassing him and his family for a compassionate act that in many ways has happened countless of time in probably every human conflict. Hindsight is 20/20.
Tandy never said he met Hitler or he could have shot him. The story about the incident originated almost 20 years after WWI.
Source?
BBC. End photo of Tandey also from BBC
Should’ve double tapped….
